Aho is a small bottom pairing D who can't get into the nhl in the isles organization.
Everyone knows Komarov is a cap dump.
The picks are what they are.... picks.
If I'm NSH, I counter with Bellows and one of Bolduc, Wilde or Salo with a 1st.</div></div>
I think that's actually a pretty interesting offer from NYI -- Bellows, Bolduc/Wilde/Salo, 1st. If NSH really is rebuilding here, they could still probably take on Komarov for a pick(s) or something too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>villenash</b></div><div>I don't think this is enough. The Komarov aspect is awful -- and Aho isn't really an NHLer. Is the 2nd compensation for taking Komarov? Is Bellows + 1st enough for Ekholm?
He did say he was the worst defenseman he's ever seen lol -- but that was at the start of Ekholm's career. I think he'd be happy to have Ekholm on his team now.</div></div>
That famous Trotz quote needs a lot of context. Ekholm was 1 or 2 games into his career here, and wasn't close to being NHL ready yet. NSH had just been embarrassed by VAN, and Trotz was ripping the whole team - not just Ekholm's play. I don't think he's carrying any sort of lifelong grudge against Ekholm.

No doubt he had a bad game against Pitt, but it was his first game in a month...no PP time.
Bellows isn’t a bust - he’ll get taken by Seattle and end up doing well there - I’m all for anything that makes Lou + trotz look bad.</div></div>
Ok let me just ask - what about Bellows game do you genuinely like? What has he put on the ice that makes you say the Isles are ruining him? I suppose it’s possible you might bring up the 2017 world juniors, but surely you see the issue with keeping faith in a player based on a 4 year old sample size. Otherwise, it’s been a struggle literally since that moment.
Bellows is literally the new ho-sang. Fans are going to be CANCER about him based on almost nothing.
And for the record, if you can’t produce without a superstar, you’re not a good hockey player. A worse Matt moulson at absolute best. He’s a bust.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>Bellows was awful again Pitt, but the first 7 games he played mostly with Ross Johnston and pageau, two players who don't have good playmaking skills. When bellows was with wahlstrom his underlying numbers were good.
This is from Scott Wheeler (head scout at the athletic)
"I suspect Bellows’ NHL outcomes are directly tied to his even-strength linemates and his power-play usage. If he ends up playing with plug-and-play guys on a third line, I’m just not sure he’s aware enough, nor quick enough, to create his own opportunities. But it’s not hard to imagine him thriving while playing within himself as the third-best player on a top-six line who scores regularly on one of the two PPs and holds his own at evens with a passing center."
It's almost as if putting him in a checking role doesn't maximize his skillset ....</div></div>
this is simply not true. bellows has a 41 xG%. one game with Brock Nelson and eberle would not just alter success he had with wahlstrom. his worst game of the season was as the third best player on the line. Nelson maybe isn't "pass-first" per say but he records his fair share of assists and if you stick bellows with barzal you're only hurting barzal. bellows is a bust. busts happen. Dal Colle is better than him.

he has the worst underlying metrics on the team. that's not a joke. he didn't just make "mistakes" it was lack of effort on goal 1 and 3. literally collides with the boards on goal 1, its in the clip. he didnt play for 3 weeks cause hes bad. Wahlstrom is a regular now too so to say trotz just hates the young kids is a complete lie. I can already see it, bellows is gonna become a ho-sang type false idol to the dumb fans. bad hockey player who somehow everyone loves. I dont get it.
let the team down with a PED suspension during the bubble. even at the AHL had 16 assists in 125 games (!!!!) and every scout says he skates like hes in mud. hes just bad.

Ekholm
Ekholm deal will be similar to the Jake Muzzin one to Toronto. Ekholm is highly underrated, one of the best defensive d-man in the league. Would probably get more than what Muzzin got. If Nashville decides to move him, they're likely looking at a retool phase if not a rebuild. Aho is an AHL d-man which is of no use to them at all. Price would start at a 1st round pick + B prospect. Then maybe a project prospect from there.
I'd likely say Ekholm for 1st round pick + Oliver Wahlstrom + Robin Salo

As for trades: I wouldn’t be upset with moving Aho or Bellows. Aho had a great year in the AHL last year and is off to a decent start this year, while Bellows has upside but hasn’t been able to put it together in the AHL yet. Maybe a change of scenery is needed for him.
Otherwise, I’ve suggested using Wilde as part of a Taylor Hall trade, but that’s about the only available trade target I’d move him for.

NYI targets for TDL
Let me address each one, because I think you have good targets here.
Derek Grant - I like this. Super cheap and we need center depth. I'd take him on. Can't imagine he'd cost more than a 3rd.
Anthony Mantha - He's not getting moved, so I don't think he's a realistic target.
Andreas Athanasiou - I think he's a realistic target in that we should have the assets to get him and he'd be a great fit, but I highly doubt we'd be able to fit him under the cap unless we removed salary (i.e. Ladd's contract).
Alex Iafallo - I like Iafallo, just not sure what his value is. I'd definitely look into bringing him in, I'd probably offer a prospect like Parker Wotherspoon and a 2nd.
Tyler Toffoli - He's my ideal target at wing. I'd offer MDC, 2nd, and 4th for Toffoli (50% retained).
Mikael Granlund - He'd also be a great fit if Nashville decides to sell. I'd offer our 1st for him straight up. He'd help create three scoring lines.
Wayne Simmonds - I will always be one of Simmonds' biggest fans, but he's been largely ineffective and not someone I think is worth bringing in anymore. If we do, I wouldn't offer more than a 5th and he needs to be retained.
Connor Brown - I doubt Ottawa trades him. He's looked good there and they like him.
Tyler Ennis - Sure, good depth. I'd trade a 4th or 5th for him.
Vladislav Namestnikov - I don't want to give him an important scoring role, I can't see him doing that well on this team. I wouldn't give up more than what he got, a minor leaguer and a 4th.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau - Also an ideal target for NYI. He's a guy I'd give up a 1st for.
For the record, another target I would add onto this is Mikko Koivu. If he wants to go for it one last time instead of retiring with the Wild (although he could always go back in the off-season if he doesn't want to retire at all), I think we'd give him a great chance at the Cup.

Help is on the way
6.75m aav for Nelson is way too high. He's had a good contract season, but his career as a whole has been inconsistent. The Isles have had enough bad contracts screw them in recent years, let's not add Nelson to the company of Clutterbuck, Komarov and Ladd.
Leddy for Nylander isn't that far off, but NYI would need to add. I also think Toronto would be more interested in Mayfield than Leddy, and Mayfield would require a much bigger add. I'm not convinced the Isles and Toronto are as natural trading partners as people seem to think.
I'm a fan of adding Johansson. He's shown he can play well in the middle six, and that's what we need right now. If we can get Skinner, great, but I feel like he'd want to stay with Eichel or go to a Cup Contender. We're not as unappetizing a destination as we were under Snow, but we don't have the hardware to attract big fish UFAs quite yet. Johansson/Dzingel/Hayes is around the quality of UFAs I think we can get.

Maybe, but MTL has a major need on the left side and it's really not an unreasonable deal at face value. It would probably boil down to which thing Montreal valued more: improving a lackluster left side of the blueline or keeping Danault. They won't find a UFA LHD that's got Leddy's talent and get him for $5.5M AAV

Yeah, it's not too far off -- Ho-Sang and the picks are nice pieces -- but it needs just a touch more, especially considering how well Saad has played lately
