best/worst trades of the decade...

2. Yes, absolutely. It's one of the parts that got them the cup, but I'm still not a fan of the trade.</div></div>
I’ll have to disagree on the Schenn part. 2 years of him at a fair price were well worth the cost considering Armstrong was able to offload the worst contract he’s ever given. Plus, you said it yourself, he’s a major part of them getting the cup. That kind of ends the discussion.

Jake Allen Appreciation Post
Couldn’t agree more. The bad rap with Allen is that he lets in the soft ones. The ones that are so disheartening and at terrible times. He has been able to right the ship in that regard in the past calendar year but even still, those are the ones everyone remembers. Bottom line, he’s a gamer and I’m glad we have him in the fold.

best/worst trades of the decade...
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kaljakori</b></div><div>All of these have probably already been said, but the list of bad trades is pretty amazing:
Hall for Larsson
Reinhart for picks that turned into Barzal and Beauvillier
Eaves for a 1st
Seguin to Dallas
Eberle for Strome
The Matt Duchene/Kyle Turris disaster
ROR to St. Louis
Lucic to LA
Both Jeff Carter trades
JVR for Luke Schenn
3 of the 4 Ben Bishop trades
Both Nino Niederreiter trades
Bobby Ryan to Ottawa
Legwand and Lehner for a 1st
Jultz for a 3rd
Hanzal to Minny
Reaves and a 2nd for Sundqvist and a 1st
Schenn for Lehterä and picks(yes they won the cup but jesus christ)
Saad for Panarin
Hoffman to Florida via San Jose</div></div>
Just a simple blues fan here so I won’t try to comment on all these, but two questions:
Which of the Bishop trades would you say worked out? And
Are you saying the Blues overpaid for Schenn?

bowman's wet dream
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HawksFan28</b></div><div>I cant blame Bowman for wanting his players back...... I mean he was only forced to make trades he never wanted to make.......
Imagine having a team that could contend for the foreseeable future, then you're forced to make trades you don't want to make?
It's like creating the right recipe, and once you finally get it right you're forced to destroy it....
It's not like Bowman traded any of those guys because he thought he could do better...
TBH, I'm glad Kruger is back, his defense (along with Hossa's) was dearly missed this past season... Kruger will be a tremendous upgrade in the bottom 6...
If there was no salary cap the Hawks would have 5-6 Cups by now at least.</div></div>
But there is a salary cap. And Bowman had to trade those guys because he gave out a bunch of bad contracts. So he forced all of that on himself.

Blues with Panarin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>J_Sand3rs</b></div><div>Because you're essentially throwing away a good crop of young guys, that could win multiple Cups, for one guy that gives you a chance at one Cup. I'd rather be a serious contender for the next 8 years than be a serious contender for 1 year and then on the fringe for the next 8 years.
A perfect example of this is what happened to Dallas in 1999. They traded away Jarome Iginla in 1995 for Joe Nieuwendyk. Nieuwendyk went on to play a big role in the 1999 Stanley Cup win for Dallas...but that's the only Cup they've won. If the Stars had kept Jarome Iginla they would have still been Stanley Cup contenders in '99, but they also would have had a better team, and been contenders throughout the early-mid 2000's as well. It's very possible that the Stars sacrificed multiple Cup runs for that one Stanley Cup in 1999.
Don't sacrifice a big piece of the Blues for the next 8 years for one potential Cup run.</div></div>
Dude I would trade 10-20 years in the lottery for one damn cup. Don’t give me that. Sustained success is great, but I’d trade it all for one cup in STL.

Big if there, but for this scenario, he’s the only piece I had left valuable enough to get Patches. This isn’t an “I want this to happen” post either.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BluesGetTheCup</b></div><div>I tend to agree. But, there are two issues. 1) Armstrong would never admit to doing a mini rebuild and having a bad season. There will be some sort of desperation move. 2) We're not quite bad enough to get into that conversation of the top 5-10 picks. Even if we went with what you're suggesting, our defense is good enough and Jake will probably bounce back where we finish just on the outside of the playoffs like this year. Which would be absolutely the worst outcome for next year. Unless we move off some contracts like Bouw, Gunn, Berglund, Sobotka and Steen we're in a sort of window of our own making right now.</div></div>
I agree completely with the keep the prospects and let them play stance. We could be in the top 10 of the lottery just from losses to central division teams alone. The division is going to be loaded next year and we aren’t ready to compete.

Great player, but you won’t get these returns. I don’t care how good he is, one year is one year. It doesn’t matter what happens, Columbus loses. Unless they sign him in UFA because it seems he wants to test that. Either they trade him for rental price (way less than these trades and what he’s worth), or they lose him for nothing in UFA.
Good luck.

Reset the Franchise
Even with your Hoffman conditions being met, i just don’t know how he will fetch a decent return anymore. The Blues might consider a B prospect like Blais or Schmaltz, but probably not Fabbri. The main issue is that the Blues locker room isn’t in the best shape currently, so a Hoffman addition has the potential to destroy it.

Keeping our Prospects
Love the look of this team. I don’t think the Carolina trade is very off base considering Skinner only has a year left, but that all depends on Steen waiving his NTC. Carolina appears to be stacked with young D so they might want a forward prospect instead.

No chance the Blues consider this move if it starts with any one of Schwartz, Parayko, Dunn, Thomas.
