Agreed. I was just pointing out that the Caps and Bruins will easily outbid you for Carlson at the price you were suggesting.

Habs Free Agency (part 2)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KeepingItChill</b></div><div>You're not managing the cap very well. Face it, I don't see much short of a miracle for MTL to make a cup run next year, so better to stock the shelves and get ready for winter. Take a look at next years UFAs. Karlsson, Seguin, Duchene, Panarin, Skinner, Couture, Pavelski, Doughty... The list goes on. If we lock ourselves like Toronto or Chicago, we'll miss that train.</div></div>
I agree that there should be foresight from management for the potential UFA's in 2019 but IMO I feel that the cap is still managed well. Currently in this case the case the cap is still set at $75M. So with the cap expected to go both this year and in 2019 it would be safe to say the Habs could land one of those UFA's and keep this core together.

I think Botterill would give you a 2019 2nd for Byron.

Montreal Trade Needs Before Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alexgoodyear</b></div><div>Honestly I think there’s a 90% chance that patioretty gets traded before the draft... if you’re going to address the teams biggest needs that’s your best bet for getting a young Center. As far as Dahlin the odds aren’t there but with the update lottery format there’s a shot if they finish 4th or 3rd last.</div></div>
We will find out today! If he does go, I just hope we get quality back.

Montreal Pre Draft
I'd probably like to see all of these trades. I think, realistically, the only one close to being balanced is the Blues deal.
Calgary would be nuts to make that deal unless Max were signed for another 5 years.
Pens would probably like to have Pleks but not for a swap of picks AND two players.

Trades with Pittsburgh, Calgary, Dallas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alexgoodyear</b></div><div>Fair enough, just didn’t know who pens wanted to dump... any suggestions?</div></div>
If you retain 3M of plekanec... it will cost +/- 800,000$ to the Pens from the prorata year balance. (23 games to go)
So they are OK with this deal.

I hate to see Patch go, but if that is what it takes to get strong down the middle, I am all for it. Alzner and Petry have played a lot together. On paper it looks like a very good pairing, but the plus minus is brutal, especially for Petry. Lehkonen, is super smart on the ice but he has no finish around the net. Because of this, he has to drop to a 2nd or 3rd line winger. But something needs to be done.</div></div>
Lehkonen will be fine. He has ridiculous possession numbers considering, a terrible PDO, and a 3% sh%. He's due for a breakout, and he could use a legitimate top 6 center, but everything that's in his control, he's doing right. I just wish he could take faceoffs (5/15 this season). :p

Habs Draft/Deadline Deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alexgoodyear</b></div><div>I agree with this although they should try to get rid of depth defenceman, ufa’s and even expensive RFA’s like lindgren. True. They could also ship out Jerabek, Carr or Benn but he has another year left on his deal. Don't think they'd get much more than late picks for the rest so I didn't bother trying to figure out where they might land. Was more focused on who could get a 1st, good prospects or a good roster player in return.

Habs Draft/Deadline Deals
Habs run with this team until the end of the season and then look make upgrades in summer on D (J. Johnson, J. Carlson, R. Dahlin) and possibly at C (J. Tavares, M. Backlund). Would be a nice kickstart for a refresh to have three firsts and three seconds (which they already have).

PLEASE RATE MY REBUILD
Just going to break down everyone of your trades:
(Edmonton):
Nuge+Nurse+1st for Patches+Byron+6th
Personally, this is a case of over-valueing Patches. RNH is a centre, younger, and is more productive then Patches. Nurse is a promising defender with top 4 upside, lets be real he isn't a top 2, but Byron isn't an elite forward either. The guy got lucky last year and had a record year in points, reality is he is a decent 3rd line option for most teams. The picks just seems points.
Grade: C-
(New York Rangers)
Skjei + 2nd round pick + 6th rounder for Galch and a 7th
The 6th and the 7th is pointless. So it is really Skjei a top 4 really a 3rd guy and a 2nd for Galch. This seems like an odd trade, as Skjei as a defenceman has put up similair points to Galch. Maybe if the trade was Skjei for Galch and a 2nd it might be possible.
Grade B-
(New Jersey)
2nd Rounder and a 5th round for Plekanec
Honestly, that is about fair value for a rental like Plekanec.
Grade: A
(Vancouver)
2nd round pick for Petry with Salary rentention
Overall not a bad trade, I think you might be able to squeeze out a middleing prospect if you retain though
Grade: B
(Nashville)
4th round pick for Montoya
I think you are not giving Montoya enough credit, he is a solid backup. Probably worth 2 3rd round picks tbh.
Grade: C+
Not really going to discuss the rest of the trades unless you want me to, but they all seem okay. Underating Benn though.

You’re nuts if you think Galchenyuk will fetch Skjei plus extra picks. Skjei is a top pairing D under 24, Galchenyuk just doesn’t have that much value

NON HABS FANS OPINIONS WANTED
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Steven_Dean</b></div><div>Looks good. Markov won't sign for that low and Montreal won't give him 3 years as if he retires they still eat the cap (35+ contract).
Also for Plekanec's cap dump I'm pretty sure you cannot down grade picks like that and may have to take on a pending UFA contract to make it legal. Minor nitpick though.
Obviously who knows with the FA signings and everyone will have opinions but they don't look impossible.</div></div>
You're correct. Why not just take the write down on Pleks' salary for a year of $1.5M and use the rest to buy Hanzal? But that said, I agree that Hanzal is not such a huge improvement on Pleks that it warrants the move. Pleks has value to a team with cap room. I suspect Montreal would love to keep him, but it handcuffs Bergevin too much in his other efforts to upgrade the team's scoring while also re-signing Price.
