They can def re-sign him. They should move Zadorov and Dube/Toffoli if it meant bringing in Timo Time

Exactly, and adding Valimaki will solve that......
Either way, I don't think anyone is disagreeing the Habs D core is sucky but the right side is where they have open spots, not the left side. If they're adding Valimaki only to not play Guhle, what's the point?

Wow, thats a great team!
Imo, O'Rielly gets a better deal (maybe 6 years or more money). And you'll probs need to add more to get schiefele.

It seems like a fair offer to me. Devils have a lot of young defense. The thinking is that Hughes takes up Graves’ minutes in top-4 rather quickly (Graves will be UFA). But if nothing sticks at 3LD between Okhotiuk, Bahl or Walsh on his off-hand, it might work.

I agree 7yrs is a risky duration. I think several journalists have speculated that Lou is sitting on a pile of announcements. I guess it is so he only has to deal with interview requests once an offseason.

I’ll admit I wasn’t sure he would sign and definitely didn’t see it coming two weeks after the trade.
It’s a load of money for sure, but it shows that he wants to be “the guy” in a market where hockey is #1

Agreed! obviously we don't need another LD.... but at the same time that's a cheap deal to take a flyer on a 23 year old former 1st rounder who has great size (6'2" 212lbs.) some NHL experience and is primed to take the next step.

Decent signings, but Bogo isn't waiving and Foote is also still there on defense. I think if they could trade Bellemare and sign Motte, then it would be a good move. I don't see them having the room for both Milano and Motte though.

I agree - I was just dumping them off to make salary space. But yes they could definitely get prospects and picks, etc.

Canes cup run
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>The backup option for KK is Necas! That is why he is so valuable right now! That's what people miss. Carolina don't need KK and Necas to hit the ground running, they need to not be complete pylons. This makes no sense</div></div>
Necas hasn't played Center in 5 years... That is an awful backup plan especially when he fell apart last season. No confidence right now being thrust into a position he has 0 experience with in the NHL is a recipe for disaster.

Canes cup run
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>That VAN trade is awful. The way the Canes team is built as it is already works.
Gardiner cannot be hidden no LTIR, he's healthy
Kotkaniemi is going to be the 2C. SURE AS HELL won't be J Staal. Jarvis on the third line is f**king comical. Miller and Gagner are pointless.
You've gone the complete wrong way about this. If you're going to improve the team, it's the bottom line that needs deadline help. Someone like (this is a comparable, not an example) Tyler Motte to NYR at last years deadline. Someone that can play 5v5 and PK without being a pylon</div></div>
The Gardiner on LTIR is def an issue there, but likely could be fixed with an additional cap dump trade. I would rather replace with a better player than DeKeyser though.
As for the team structure from this trade I think adjustments need to be made. Primarily JT Miller would play 2C and not LW if this trade were to go down. So the top 6 would consist of Aho Jarvis Teuvo, Svech Miller and Pacioretty. From there the bottom 6 would likely be Staal with Fast and Milano, then 4th line with Kase and Drury centered by KK. Looks like a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over the current grouping right now, arguably gives the Canes the best forward group in the league. I love KK but I feel like there is an unjustifiably large risk putting him in a 2C role with NO backup option this early on. Best to acquire a sure commodity in JT Miller to man that position.
The Sam Gagner signing is definitely pointless, no reason for acquiring him, would rather re-sign maybe Stepan at league min as he was quite a good fit for the team as a depth option.

This is making us worse. We get downgrade our 1c, on a good contract, who was 2nd place in Selke voting, for, at best a 3c and stay the sameish on defense, while getting a few rounds higher
