No need to worry. I'm a Ranger fan. haha I just wanted to get Colorado's perspective on Kaut since I don't follow their prospects that closely.

Similar to the hayes deal, the rangers will get a 1st plus a decent prospect/young player.
Kaut has more potential than Lemieux, so it'll probably be more like this.
Kreider for Kaut+2nd that turns into a 1st if kreider resigns.
Kaut isn't in the upper echelon of prospects, he is good don't get me wrong, but to put it in perspective, he's been outperformed by Lias Andersson at every level (I'm comparing their stats from equivalent years as Lias is a year older, i'm going a year back on Lias) who many NYR fans are labeling as a bust.</div></div>
Personally I would love if the offer was Kaut + a conditional 2nd.

rangers cap dump for cap dump
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BSpadaro83</b></div><div>The ground work sure. But the numbers you chose make less sense. Giradi's cap hit falls to 1.1m next year. Retaining almost half of Smith AND taking Marleau this year doesnt save them enough in the long run to not be able to go for Panarin. So this deal would have to happen post July 1, when the Rangers miss on Panarin, and cant buy out Marleau at that point, so he doesnt even waive to come to NY because he wants to be out west.</div></div>
I think this deal and Parnarin are not related at all. You could still make this deal, sign your RFA's and sign Parnarin if you wanted to. Maybe the amount retained for Smith changes and/or draft compensation changes but this trade doesn't have to happen after the buyout period is over.
What would you retain on Smith and/or what compensation would you want to make this trade work?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BSpadaro83</b></div><div>Smiths buyout cap hit is 970k this year and 3.1m next, then 1.1 next two. Why would they take on 6.5 min to keep a 2.1m cap hit this year and only save 1m next year? 3rd round pick isnt worth that, just buy him out and leave you guys to figure out Marleau elsewhere.</div></div>
Because even with the moves they made so far I don't think they are a legit contender. If they could avoid paying smith for 4 years I think that is valuable. Marleau would come off the books after this year. Plus Girardi has a 3.1M cap hit this year from his buyout. Smith, Staal, Shattenkirk all come off the following year. Why keep paying these guys after that if they don't have to. Rangers aren't exactly strapped for cash either. They can afford to make a move like this. Maybe you get more draft compensation than. But I think the ground work of this deal could really benefit the Rangers in the long run.

And if they still want to pursue Parnarin they could still theoretically but moving the guys I listed above or buying out Staal. It wouldn't be easy but definitely doable. After Strome's resurgence last season I don't see why a team wouldn't give at least a 3rd for a guy who is still an RFA after next year. They definitely have flexibility to absorb Marleau's contract and get Parnarin.

This move still gives the Rangers enough flexibility to get all their RFA's signed. That would put them to the cap but they could also move guys like Namestnikov, Vesey, Kreider, Shattenkirk with retention (if Pionk and Braun were traded there has to be someone willing to take Shatty at 3.3M) to create more cap room if needed.

Personally I don't think Shatty has done as poorly as everyone makes out, especially since he was on a bottom 10 of the league team. I think he still has some value, just have to find the right fit.</div></div>
If Braun got a 2nd and a 3rd, and WPG was willing to take Pionk, then Shattenkirk with retention has positive value.

What do you think would be fair. My thinking was that they are in a win now mode and would rather have players that could contribute at the NHL level instead of picks and prospects. Pionk would be good in SJ playing 3rd pair minutes for less than you pay Braun. Vesey would be a top 9 forward for them that adds depth up front. Nieves would be a 13th forward capable of playing on the 4th line. This is clearly quantity over quality here but being strapped against the cap I figured filling out 3 roster spots plus shedding Braun's salary would be enough. Would you be more interested in a prospect like Anderson or Lindgren? Those types of players just don't fit the timeline to me when your paying Karlesson 11.5M a year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>LOL
IDK how many times we have to do this. Kreider is the Pacioretty or Turris trade with a little extra because he's better.
How would you rate these assets: Yamamoto, Nick Suzuki, Sam Girard?
How would you rate these assets: Tatar, Kamenev, Puljujarvi
Would you say Yamamoto is a step below the other 2 ? I would
So maybe instead of a 2nd round pick, the little more becomes a 1st round pick. And that 1st round pick moves up in the draft to 8 because Yamamoto is a decent step down from Girard/Suzuki.
That's the rational response, instead of "nahhh Kreider ain't that good"
Strome =2nd
Lindgren =2nd
Yamamoto = 1st
1st
So 2 1sts and 2 2nds for a guy that will cost 7mil + and doesn't give you much more value than Tony Deangelo?
lol
Capfriendly really undervalues cap space.
The Callahan deal sounds a lot like the Bickel deal. They had similar cap impact.
That trade returned a 2nd and 3rd. Very similar to Keane + 3rd.
You know what Chicago added to make up for that cap dump Bickel? Teravainen....yeah you're gonna to add more.
What's the comparable to Teravainen?</div></div>
Pacioretty averages .7 points per game over his career. Kreider .6. That means one is a 70 point player and the other a 50 point player. Stop comparing the two. pach is better. And I'm a ranger fan.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>lol that's cute. You seem to know your prospects pretty well.
I like Senyshyn's production. His 24 points as a 21 year old as an AHL player are impressive. But if I wanted a ....better prospect I could just look internally. Perhaps at Tim Gettinger who 3 more points in 2 less games than Senyshyn, which would be cool But he's also an entire year younger and plays on a team that scored 20 less goals on the year.
Idk maybe I can't get a prospect as good as Gettinger for Kreider. I could hope for one as good as Ryan Gropp...who put up 2 more points in 5 less games than Senyshyn... I doubt any team would give up a prospect as good as Gropp though.
IDK what do you think?</div></div>
My bad. You are just so much smarter than me guy. i guess I should ask for tolvanen and 2 firsts for Kreider. That sounds about right. You also forgot that Senyshen had 1 more points than Gettinget in 2 less NHL games. Since stats are the only thing that matter to you I guess hes the better prospect.
Dont forget Kreider had 23 points in his first season in the AHL. I guess he is worth Gropp.

How is the Kreider deal a joke? Senyshyn is a former 1st round pick. I think he is a very good prospect, plus hes a right hand shot and exempt from the expansion draft. Under that assumption no one is giving up 2 first round picks for Kreider. Unless hes not as good of a prospect is I believe I think it's fair. You may be over valuing Kreider.

The reason I targeted Kulikov is because of the 1 year left on his contract. The rangers have plenty of cap space and could either buy out or trade Kulikov half retained. I dont know mich about Perreult but from what I've seen I dont think he fits in the plans after this year. But if the second scenario was the trade I'd be more comfortable including vesey or namestnikov instead of Strome.

I'm not going to assume that Kakko and Kratsov will come in and immediately be ready for top 6 minutes. Also I wouldn't be shocked if one or more of Kreider/Strome/Vesey/Namestnikov got traded this year. Lastley I am a big believer you accumulate talent however you can. Roslovic is a quality prospect and would be a great addition to this young forward group.
