Yeah fair enough, this is just a what if scenario to see what the team would look like if Colorado signed him. I was reading that Colorado has interest in him is all. In the same hot take they also mentioned he's interested in Seattle as well, but wants to wait and see who else they plan to sign first.

I was thinking that Jost has less value than those guys just cause he has not really performed for where he was drafted and the others still have a little more time to grow. And yeah, wouldn't see Johnson (or really anybody lol) waiving his contract to go to Arizona, but you also never know. From a just straight up trade, I feel like both teams prosper. Just wanted to make some fun trades regardless of NMC, it seems like everyone has a NMC nowadays haha.</div></div>
He hasn't really performed to the same level they wanted him to when they drafted him, but he's starting to show signs of being a good 3C/penalty killer for them. They also can likely keep him on a good value contract for awhile, with Colorado in a win now mode I think him being a valuable roster player would make him a harder sell than kaut and bowers that have started to have some questions arise about whether they will crack the avs lineup anytime soon. But, that's just, like my opinion man.

For the right price, I'm sure Colorado would move jost, but I doubt they are openly shopping him. He showed great strides last year at the end of the regular season. I think they would be very comfortable with him as the 3C, since he showed he can move up to 2C for a few games in a pinch during the regular season at least. He should be resigned on a relatively low cost per year contract as well, with a strong potential for over performing that contract, personally I'd be shocked to see him be moved for those reasons.

I don't think jost would be part of the kuemper deal, Colorado sees him as part of the depth to chase the cup I think. Potentially a prospect like kaut, or bowers, or helleson though. Also, Johnson has a ntc I don't see him waiving it to go to Arizona. I honestly don't see Colorado trading Johnson under any circumstances honestly. They will just ride out his contract for two more years at this point I think.

The trade for girgensons seems reasonable, but I don't think Colorado does it because they will struggle to fit him in the cap without shedding other contracts. You could probably get that trade somewhere though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Anaheim would have strongly considered that deal if the pick were the Avs' 2021 first. But a 2023 second would result in a player who (a) wouldn't be likely to make the NHL until 2026, two or three years later than the player chosen with the 2021 first, and (b) less likely to make the NHL at all.</div></div>
That could be, I struggled a bit with Rakell's worth as a 1 year rental player. I may have been over valuing helleson's value on the deal too much. I'm not sure if I would do the trade for a 1st. I would probably start the season without Rakell and then get a better rental forward at or closer to the trade deadline with that first if that's the case. There are some potentially great rentals at the deadline this year, depending on which teams are sellers.

A few thoughts, I don't think Johnson waives his mntc to go to Edmonton. I can't see them making his list. The roster needs to get to 23 players, so you'll go over the cap with the 3 healthy scratches. Also, as mentioned above timmins and jost should be included.
Just intended as constructive feedback. I enjoyed looking at your thoughts, good targets for Colorado to look at in here.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JH21</b></div><div>1- Grubauer will not be signing for 4.9 million. Not a chance.
2- Erik Johnson cannot be counted on. If he is penciled in the top 4 the Avs are screwed.
3- Raanta and Newhook on the 3rd line? No thanks. Newhook needs to play wing and there is no chance Raanta is ready for 3rd line minutes.
4- Compher, Kaut and a 1st for Reinhart? Not a chance. If you were a Sabres fan would you be happy with that trade?</div></div>
For grubauer, I think there is a chance that can happen. Comparables are varlamov and lehners deals at 5 per year, with the flat cap it's possible the price is slightly lower. Could it go above 5? Yeah, but I doubt by a lot.
For Johnson, I'm not sure what the choice is, I don't think he will be on IR, at least not to start the season. Maybe his spot in the lineup changes to third pairing, but he's going to play unless he gets hurt again. So start of the year line up has him in.
With ranta, I think he could make it work on the third line with the right training camp and off-season. Maybe he goes down to 4th line, or back to the ahl instead and mahltsev moves up and Sherwood moves in or something. It's a depth detail of the roster moves and wouldn't change the off-season moves. I think Colorado should at least try to play newhook at his natural center position to develop him long term into the 2nd line center. Bednar loves to juggle lines so I'm sure he will shield newhook in that role, but I think it's the right move long term.
For the Reinhart trade, yeah probably not happy as a sabres fan, but I just read a report on sportsnet indicating buffalo is asking for a first round pick and a prospect for Reinhart. That's why I built this was to see how that would look. Maybe that report is wrong on their ask, or Colorado's prospect needs to be better than this, or because the 1st is likely a late round pick they need additional picks to be added... Hard to say. That's my basis for the trade though.

Your roster is 3 shy of the 23 man roster, but you likely can squeeze in the guys on minimum contacted and make it work. I doubt we can count on Johnson being on IR since he was expected back in the 3rd of 4th round of the playoffs if we get there. I doubt that grubauer or makar sign for that much in this flat cap market. No one seems to be talking about makar being anywhere about 10m that I have seen at least. I don't think there are comparables to draw upon for grubauers contract getting that high, maybe markstrom? But I think the consensus is that was an overpay. I certainly hope you're not right at least hahaha.

Fair play, especially on the value of Colorado's first-round pick. That may require Colorado to include a second prospect in the trade, or an additional draft pick to get it done, I buy that.

I'm not sure if the avs will be able to rely upon Johnson going on IR for the year, the chatter during the playoffs was Johnson would be back late in the playoffs if the avs made it. Who do you leave off if that salary is eaten up by Johnson? I would say they'd have to squeeze grubauer a bit, not sign saad, and not sign suter. The $760k you current have as cap space is needed for the 23rd roster spot for a full roster as well.

Looks good, one more salary shed, or one of those signings needs to come in a little lower to get a minimum contrwct guy onto the roster for the 23 man roster. Youre so close though, it likely doesn't require salary cap shedding to do it. Not too bad for the lightning to just lose gourde and palat with their cap problems.

Keep it simple improve at the trade deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>I’d slide Newhook to LW on the 2nd line letting him play center offensively and Kadri defensively like what they do often with MacK and Landy. Slide Jost to 3C where he was so good the last half of this season and a more typical spot for one of the primary PK guys, and I don’t know what the Avs are doing with Kaut but I’d put him at RW on the 3rd line with Jost and Nichushkin. With what you did on the 4th just slide Maltsev to the LW. Imo Byram is going to be a star and by the end of the year he is in the top 4, but with that d-Corp you can blender however you want to accommodate for the game situation, but I’d be inclined to keep EJ on the 3rd pairing to keep his minutes in check but that’s me nitpicking.</div></div>
Nitpicking is part of the fun. I feel like kaut is sliding on the depth charts for the team. It would be great to see him turn it around this year though for sure. Likely bumping Sherwood out of the lineup, and sending Megna down to the eagles. If kaut could make it work on the third line I'd be interested in sliding nichushkin down to comphers line. With O'Connor, compher and nichushkin that's a fairly good defensive line.

I guess we will see. One report I was reading today indicated landeskog wants between 6 and 7 mil, the avs are comfortable with that and the only issue is term. Yeah fair enough, I have kind of lost confidence in kaut, but I will admit I am not basing that off of a lot of evidence, so hopefully I'm wrong. If the avs can get kessel for a 2nd round pick and a lower prospect than kaut, as well as have Arizona retain half his remaining salary, I think that would be a good trade personally.

I was making this to see what a kessel trade might look like and still have the cap work. The more I think about it though, the rumour of the avs being interested in kessel would probably be more as a back up plan if landy doesn't re-sign. Then the avs trade for kessel with a draft pick and someone like kaut. They also re-sign saad. I would rather they re-sign Landy, but if the price is too high maybe this is the backup plan?

Looks good, and seems achievable, but there still needs to be 2 more scratches added to fill out the roster. You have them only at 21 players on the roster. Still could be possible though, the avs just need to sign a couple of those players for slightly less. Maybe suter signs for 1.5?

Definitely could be true on the underpayment, I am likely a little too optimistic with how much of a difference an 8 year deal could make on guys that age. A couple of relevant contracts as references, Lehner at 5 years x 5 million and Jordan Binnington at 6 years x 6 million. I don't know, it might be possible to get Grubauer at 8 years x 5 million, but I could just be dreaming. The Landy one, yeah that's likely asking for a home team discount that may be a bit too much for him to stomache, maybe the 8 year deal is enough to make him accept it though. With regards to bridging Makar or not, if it makes the team better by doing so, then I think you do it. Unless Makar simply isn't open to it at all. There have been a number of rumours indicating that a bridge deal is being considered for Makar though.
