Still wins more board battles than Romanov lol. Romanov just throws a hit, the guy eats the hit and then someone else on the other team gets the puck.

He falls and still is among the best isles D in the most basic stats. Take away analytics and he still comes out looking good. Even strength points per 60, giveaways, plus minus , goals against per 60.
9 points in his last 16 with a plus 11 rating and barely on the ice for any goals against. I would think the anti analytics crowd would be big fans of that stat line

ive never seen a team more uncomfortable with the puck on their stick. Isles need more than a re-tool. It sucks for the older isles fans because this team might not make the playoffs for another 7 or 8 years

The dream
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DefenseFirst</b></div><div>Show me this precedent.</div></div>
Caveat: this deal is awful for Boston if you're only going to use Mayfield & Parise as your 7th D/13th F. It doesn't make sense for the Bruins to be adding Mayfield with their RHD depth, and while Parise isn't a bad guy to add, he's a third liner at best here.
But the precedent for Mayfield being a highly valued asset at the deadline is easy to find. Mayfield gets 21 minutes per night on a team in the top half of the league in terms of goal prevention, and is the #1 Dman in terms of TOI on the 5th best PK in the league. He's a pending UFA on a $1.45M cap hit. The obvious comps for me are Ben Chiarot and Josh Manson - both had a higher cap hit *with full retention* than Mayfield's ($1.75M for Chiarot, $2.05M for Manson). Mayfield's possession numbers are stronger than both guys' numbers were on their old teams at last year's deadline, he has about the same amount of playoff experience as a top 4 guy that Chiarot had at last year's deadline (and more than Manson), and even advanced stats like GSVA put Mayfield on par or better than Chiarot & Manson were at last year's deadline.
Chiarot got that 1st, a 4th, & Ty Smilianic; Manson got a 2nd and a much stronger prospect in Drew Helleson. While I think it's more likely Mayfield's package resembles Manson's, I don't think it's crazy to think a team could goose their offer to a 1st rounder if there was a bidding war. For all the talk about Gavrikov being the belle of the deadline ball for defensemen, Mayfield has been more productive than him - and again, that cap hit can't be beat. Gavrikov with full retention comes in at a mere $50K cheaper than Mayfield's full hit.

As long as Lou recoups some picks for Varly/Mayfield we are in a good spot entering the summer. If he doesn’t, we are screwed</div></div>
Lou might be the worst GM in the NHL. I have no faith in him

They don't need Barzal down the middle, so they can replace him with a winger rental like Kane if he's interested.</div></div>
Kane doesn’t want to play for the isles and the isles suck with barzal, adding isn’t going to make them a playoff team

Why always Kadper? Complete game. COMPLETE. I was down on him to start this season, but I have been shamed. I had Kasper pegged as a 2C with a 1C low prob and a 3C absolute floor.
2C is his new floor. In 3 years, if Larkin stays, Kasper is 1C, Larkin 2C. With Seider and Edvinsson, this is a cup contender.</div></div>
He hasnt passed the .5 ppg threshold in the shl this year its not like dominating at a lower level ttpical of 1Cs.

How far off is this concept
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>The isles gave up two 2nds to get rid of Ladd, not that far off from a 1st rd pick in terms of value. Bailey is one of the worst forwards in the league and he’s old, I don’t think any team wants him in a top 9 role unless they are fairly compensated</div></div>
If you wanna get galaxy brained with me, Ladd's 2x$5.5M cost a pair of 2nds and the conditional 3rd - so I would think you could easily make the case that Bailey's 1x$5M would cost a 2nd. I could almost spin it into only costing a 3rd because when Ladd was traded he had played a total of 67 professional games in the prior 3 seasons, and Bailey hasn't shown himself to be a health risk.
If you wanna get galaxy CONSPIRACY brain with me I would love for someone to figure out how Andrew Ladd was able to play 17:38 in the last week of the 2022 season and then mysteriously had an injury bad enough to miss his entire age-37 season yet also not bad enough to retire, when those just so happened to be the conditions that would get Arizona an additional pick out of that deal.
