Thread: Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jdfitz77</b></div><div>I dig the idea of a Montour for Hanifin swap,
but i wonder if Calgary would just re-sign Hammonic &amp; keep Hanifin?
That’s what I’d do if i were them

As far as 2C...
idk about Galchenyuk or Haula?
I really like Gally his draft year, but his struggles are well documented at this point. Particularly at Center
Haula is a solid player, but can’t stay healthy
Both have upside, but are also VERY risky imo
And it worries me taking a risk at that spot with Eichel getting clearly frustrated with the situation here.
I think we really need to make the playoffs next season

I did see a Reinhart &amp; Cozens for Point trade that i found very interesting
Idk if they’d do that (prob not), but if they did i think they’d also have to include someone like Tyler Johnson to get rid of extra Cap
I’d love to see a deal like that

But realistically...
i think I’d go after someone like Henrique
Can probably get him pretty cheap Bc his contract isn’t great
Tage &amp; a pick?
Or something like that
He’d give us a decent 2C who could transition to be a really good 3C once Cozens is ready to take a 2nd line role

Some other “buy low” types I’d try to get are Josh Anderson &amp; Alex Tuch
Reinhart is our only RW i think we can count on to consistently score in the top9, so adding 1 or 2 of those guys would really help

I don’t think we are gonna get any of the UFAs we’d like,
bc things here are so messed up
So those “buy low” type trades are probably our best bet
They can help get us to the playoffs NOW,
and we can continue to develop our young talent (incl pick8 this year) to the point where hopefully they’re good enough in a few years to contribute to us becoming legit contenders for the Cup
Idk that there’s any “quick fix” that’s gonna put us over teams like Tampa, Boston, the Caps, etc...
so i think that’s the way I’d generally go about things</div></div>

I think the Flames would be more inclined to use Hanifin to acquire a RW, they only have two right hand shots up front (Lindholm and Ryan), who are arguably both more effective at centre.

I do like your idea of acquiring Henrique. I hadn't thought of him but definitely still a capable player with the right amount of term until Cozens can be a true 2C, would definitely cost less to acquire.

Arizona doesn't need Anisimov, they'll be tight to the cap already. Anybody who takes Anisimov would be looking for a sweetener. My guess is Ottawa holds on to him as a place holder in case the kids need more time in Belleville. Same goes for Bobby Ryan. I don't see Vegas trading Kolesar if he is as good as you describe, another team that will be maneuvering through cap hell this summer and will need inexpensive players at the bottom of their lineup. Agree on re-signing Boro, Tierney, and Brown. Would like to re-sign Duclair but I think that's too much money/term for someone who is still relatively unproven. This team can manage that AAV but I would not give him more than 2 yrs. I don't see why San Jose makes that trade... giving up prospects for players they may lose on waivers, San Jose has enough fringe NHL forwards right now. I like the trade for Murray and its framework, may change depending on how badly Pittsburgh needs to clear money. I agree with what someone posted above that I don't think they should let Hawryluk walk after a decent audition, he won't be expensive and provides more competition in the lineup. I think it's important that the young guys earn their roster spots instead of being penciled in as the top two centers.

Forwards: Tkachuk, Duclair, C. Brown, Tierney, White, Paul, Bjugstad, Hawryluk, Anisimov, Ryan, Balcers

11 forwards means 2-3 spots for L. Brown, Norris, Batherson, and Formenton to compete for. When they play, they should be given top 9 minutes or be back in Belleville. If none of them fail to solidify a spot in camp then PD may need to pick up another place holder or two.

Pretty much agree with the defence, not sure if Zub can step in on the first pair right away. Jaros will be in Belleville to start, first recall. I wouldn't bother re-signing Englund unless they need bodies in Belleville. May need to search for another RD if Zub needs to be sheltered more/Brannstrom needs more time in Belleville. I really hope Wolanin has a healthy year and can bounce back.

Cheers to giving me lots to think about!
