They'll find a way to land him regardless, at least this way you're getting a D-man capable of top 4 mins (basically) for free

Apparently Sakic has said they're interested in a top 4 dman around $4 mil for the next 1-2 years. I agree that cap hit would be too much if he had 2 years left but with only 1 year I think it could be a good move.

What would you suggest for pairs? I didn't put much thought into them seeing as the 3 LD are all first pairing players, Andersson/Marino would be 2nd pair on a contender, and Cernak/Carlo would both be 2nd pair shutdown guys on a contender.

Suspension will end in 2023. Definitely a big loss for Russia who already lacked centre depth

I could see Namestnikov moving up to 2C and having him play with Kucherov, they had success as linemates in Tampa. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Kaprizov make this team, although they are already incredibly deep on the wing. Radulov will be getting old so that's a possibility. Another player I think might have a shot in a couple years because of their lack of depth at centre is Alexander Khovanov- dominated in the qmjhl and wjc as Russia's #1 centre, playing in the KHL this upcoming year and then likely with the Wild for 21-22.

Can probably get a first for Killorn at the draft. I don't see them re-signing Shattenkirk, someone else will pay him more, and see them bringing up Foote from the AHL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jdfitz77</b></div><div>I dig the idea of a Montour for Hanifin swap,
but i wonder if Calgary would just re-sign Hammonic & keep Hanifin?
That’s what I’d do if i were them
As far as 2C...
idk about Galchenyuk or Haula?
I really like Gally his draft year, but his struggles are well documented at this point. Particularly at Center
Haula is a solid player, but can’t stay healthy
Both have upside, but are also VERY risky imo
And it worries me taking a risk at that spot with Eichel getting clearly frustrated with the situation here.
I think we really need to make the playoffs next season
I did see a Reinhart & Cozens for Point trade that i found very interesting
Idk if they’d do that (prob not), but if they did i think they’d also have to include someone like Tyler Johnson to get rid of extra Cap
I’d love to see a deal like that
But realistically...
i think I’d go after someone like Henrique
Can probably get him pretty cheap Bc his contract isn’t great
Tage & a pick?
Or something like that
He’d give us a decent 2C who could transition to be a really good 3C once Cozens is ready to take a 2nd line role
Some other “buy low” types I’d try to get are Josh Anderson & Alex Tuch
Reinhart is our only RW i think we can count on to consistently score in the top9, so adding 1 or 2 of those guys would really help
I don’t think we are gonna get any of the UFAs we’d like,
bc things here are so messed up
So those “buy low” type trades are probably our best bet
They can help get us to the playoffs NOW,
and we can continue to develop our young talent (incl pick8 this year) to the point where hopefully they’re good enough in a few years to contribute to us becoming legit contenders for the Cup
Idk that there’s any “quick fix” that’s gonna put us over teams like Tampa, Boston, the Caps, etc...
so i think that’s the way I’d generally go about things</div></div>
I think the Flames would be more inclined to use Hanifin to acquire a RW, they only have two right hand shots up front (Lindholm and Ryan), who are arguably both more effective at centre.
I do like your idea of acquiring Henrique. I hadn't thought of him but definitely still a capable player with the right amount of term until Cozens can be a true 2C, would definitely cost less to acquire.

Risto should be worth more than that- if not, keep him
Why are we trading Montour for picks?
At least use him to get a real RW2, add if necessary
I’d attempt to trade for Domi after the draft
Don’t really wanna give up pick8
Don’t think there’s anything we can do with Okposo. We’re pretty much stuck with him. He won’t be on the bench though. Even though he’s obviously very overpaid, he played well in his 4th line defensive role for us</div></div>
Would you rather a lottery protected 2021 first + B prospect after the draft?
Would you do Montour for Duclair? Ottawa adds a pick

Is this enough to make playoffs
Definitely like the moves for Domi and Raanta. I think they need to at least re-sign Larsson, if not Girgensons as well so you can have a more defensive line you can throw out for d-zone faceoffs. You don't want Domi or Cozens starting in their own zone on the road, and you won't get to most out of Eichel if it has to be him. Don't think Vegas will give up Tuch and that money can get both of them signed for sure. Would probably keep Montour and try to trade Risto for a top 6 winger.

I'm a Sens fan (so take it easy lol), with Murray it's a combination of thinking that Price and Holtby may take a step back the next couple years, while Murray is definitely capable of a step forward. I wouldn't be shocked if it's actually Hart starting with Binnington as back-up. Someone also mentioned Darcy Kuemper who could be a bit of a darkhorse. As for Rust, he's quietly establishing himself as a top-line winger. Again, it's just a projection for a couple years from now. Not to get wrapped up in Pitt, but was anyone thinking a couple years ago that Guentzel would be a lock on USA?

We'll see in a couple years. Tavares today is a safer choice but I think he has plateaued where Cirelli still has lots of room for growth in the next two years. Cirelli also offers up another high level pk option.
Bergeron was one of the older players I left just because of the past success of that line and that he won't be tasked with the hardest defensive assignments.

No way any of the old standbys deserve to be there. Holtby, Schneider, Price, none of them cut it anymore. I wouldn't be going with Murray either.</div></div>
Hadn't thought of Kuemper but should keep him in mind. Personally, I figured that Murray's big game experience would be valued over a short tournament. I don't think it's enough to say "put that team in front of anyone they'll be fine" since other teams (USA, Sweden especially) are closing the gap in terms of talent on paper

If Tampa matches then so be it. But the contract they'll be looking to give Cernak will definitely have a lower AAV. He's their 3rd priority after Cirelli and Sergachev. Tampa will have to make some tough decisions because of a flat cap and Ottawa should try and take advantage. Thomson and Bernard-Docker will be first year AHL players and could use 1-2 years there probably. I think Branstrom benefits from more time to build his confidence in the AHL. If they all prove to be bonafide top 4 defensemen, that's great. One or even two could be used in a trade to improve other areas.

Continuing the Rebuild
Arizona doesn't need Anisimov, they'll be tight to the cap already. Anybody who takes Anisimov would be looking for a sweetener. My guess is Ottawa holds on to him as a place holder in case the kids need more time in Belleville. Same goes for Bobby Ryan. I don't see Vegas trading Kolesar if he is as good as you describe, another team that will be maneuvering through cap hell this summer and will need inexpensive players at the bottom of their lineup. Agree on re-signing Boro, Tierney, and Brown. Would like to re-sign Duclair but I think that's too much money/term for someone who is still relatively unproven. This team can manage that AAV but I would not give him more than 2 yrs. I don't see why San Jose makes that trade... giving up prospects for players they may lose on waivers, San Jose has enough fringe NHL forwards right now. I like the trade for Murray and its framework, may change depending on how badly Pittsburgh needs to clear money. I agree with what someone posted above that I don't think they should let Hawryluk walk after a decent audition, he won't be expensive and provides more competition in the lineup. I think it's important that the young guys earn their roster spots instead of being penciled in as the top two centers.
Forwards: Tkachuk, Duclair, C. Brown, Tierney, White, Paul, Bjugstad, Hawryluk, Anisimov, Ryan, Balcers
11 forwards means 2-3 spots for L. Brown, Norris, Batherson, and Formenton to compete for. When they play, they should be given top 9 minutes or be back in Belleville. If none of them fail to solidify a spot in camp then PD may need to pick up another place holder or two.
Pretty much agree with the defence, not sure if Zub can step in on the first pair right away. Jaros will be in Belleville to start, first recall. I wouldn't bother re-signing Englund unless they need bodies in Belleville. May need to search for another RD if Zub needs to be sheltered more/Brannstrom needs more time in Belleville. I really hope Wolanin has a healthy year and can bounce back.
Cheers to giving me lots to think about!
