15+ teams beat that offer for Lindholm. Oluasson is a mediocre at best prospect and the 1st is 27th overall..

Realistic
Your 10-15th ranked organizational prospect and a projected late 1st (next year) won't get you a sniff at Lindholm.
Nothing realistic about it.

Empty The Cupboards
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Missouri</b></div><div>The way I see it is:
Timins - a future top 4 dman, who shown strong strides in Toronto this season.
Robertson - very high class prospect, expected to be full time nhler.
Petruzelli - I feel this guy still has NHL potential, similar to a jack cambell.
and a 3rd.
For Schmaltz, a very good player, but not a point per game guy. He has never his a point per game season in his career. He came close yes, but close doesn't cut it.
Lots of "ifs" in this deal, so maybe we change 3rd to a 1st or 2nd. But otherwise, I don't mind it for arizona</div></div>
I certainly wouldn't view those Toronto pieces in that respect, but that's fair if you do!
I think a first would be needed.

And why would they do that? A bunch of throwaway pieces for a point a game guy on a good contract.
Toronto gives up nothing of value there.
As far as the Calgary deal - it's not even remotely close.

This team low key in trouble
Burying Kevin Rooney costs a team 0.2% of the cap.. giving up a 2nd to get "rid" of him is lunacy.
Additionally the Lindholm deal is incredibly poor value for Calgary.

Calgary would be far better off just acquiring Schmaltz from Arizona in this scenario.. rather than overpaying for one year of Nylander.
Hanifin + Schmaltz >>> Nylander

Moving Vladar alone solves the issue which is far more preferable then selling low on a great hockey player who battled through injury last season.

Long Term Identity in the Bottom 6
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Terry_AkiSauce</b></div><div>We aren't talking about specifically trading to Calgary, you said value. Any GM in the league would take Marner at his contract over Andersson as good as he is and as good as the contract is. Elite players are the most difficult thing to come by (ask Brad). Also, way to bring up goals when discussing an elite playmaking winger with 47 points in 50 playoff games. Ridiculously bending facts to make a point - Marner is more valuable than anyone on the Flames by a mile - think it'd be difficult to find a GM including Conroy in the league that would disagree with that statement.</div></div>
Well we clearly won't agree here, but that's ok.
Give me the top pairing all situations RD, that comes at 60% less of the cost, with an extra year of term every day of the week. Andersson is the unicorn here with his contract, not Marner. Marner's contract is debilitating to any current contender, Andersson's isn't. League wide value has to favor Rasmus.
Also goals absolutely matter in the playoffs. If you are content paying Marner 11M a season to score at a 16 goal pace when the games tighten up then by all means have at it. It's a legitimate concern, and I guarantee GM's weigh that.

Long Term Identity in the Bottom 6
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Terry_AkiSauce</b></div><div>You said he wasn't worth 1/4 of the trade, like I said, the trade is bad but he is certainly worth more than that. Lindholm is on an expiring deal, a 16th overall pick will very likely never come close to Marner (even with this draft being deep) and while Coronato looks to be a player, he is still just a prospect with 1 game between the AHL/NHL. Calgary fans would be rejoicing if they got him for Lindholm, Coronato and a 1st and the Leafs would never do it</div></div>
Andersson alone accounts for far more than 1/4th of the value of that package, so I stand by what I said. He's the best asset in the entire deal in my opinion.
Any Flames fan with half a brain would be furious if we traded Lindholm, Coronato and a 1st for Marner. We are already locked into a 10+ Million dollar winger for better or worse, and adding another would only further compound our problems. Additionally such a trade would then require Conroy to dump nearly 8M of salary before the start of the season which is a near impossibility in todays game without giving up significant futures.
Marner at 10.9M for just two more years isn't an asset that will bring back an earth shattering return given the current cap environment - especially with his inability to step up in the playoffs (10 goals in 50 games won't cut it). The leafs are better of keeping him because as you said he is indeed one hell of a talent. The Tavares deal is the backbreaker for that team.

Long Term Identity in the Bottom 6
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Terry_AkiSauce</b></div><div>As bad as the trade here is, you're as delusional saying that - easily top 5 RW and one of the most well-rounded wingers in the league. He's better than any individual piece there even at his caphit and it isn't close</div></div>
Rasmus Andersson is a top 30 defender in the NHL who is 26 and signed for 3 more years at 4.5M.
Marner is the best player in this deal, sure, but he's certainly not the best asset in a cap world, and even if you wanted to debate that, the difference is nowhere close to Lindholm, and two top 16 draft picks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Conbon</b></div><div>If Debrincat's value were Hanifin 1 for 1 this deal would have been done yesterday</div></div>
I disagree. This isn't NHL 23.. both players only have one guaranteed year of team control. Debrincat is coming off a poor season and needs a 9M QO..
Even if it were 1 for 1 how do you propose Calgary takes on 4M in salary while already needing to shed cap to begin next season?

Debrincat and Chabot traded
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Conbon</b></div><div>Hanifin, Toffoli both expiring UFAs and Vladar as a 2.2m backup with rough stats the past 2 years doesn't command much value. This clears a ton of cap space for the Flames and they get the best, youngest roster player in the deal that fits exactly what they need. Add the 1st in and that's one of the better if not best offer they'll get. Maybe change the 3rd to something of more value along with Debrincat for balancing but I think the bones address needs all around.
Pinto instead of the 3rd too much?</div></div>
Come on now. All of three of Hanifin, Toffoli and Debrincat have one year of team control left as we sit here today.
Cat is what he is, and that's a one dimensional, undersized, goalscorer coming off a poor season. I'd argue Hanifin straight across is fair value.
