Rangers don't need another high priced center; they need one that can win face-offs. Their offense was top ten in the league (minus pp which is odd..but they love to pass (up opportunities) on the man advantage). Winning face-offs means more possession, means more chances in the offensive zone, means more goals for a team that was already scoring goals with the best of 'em. We have the scorers and playmakers; and the future.. we can't mortgage it because we have one summer with 24 million to play with.

What they need to focus on is the defensive side of the puck. They need to go out and hunt for a solid two way center, and add some tough vets to the bottom six; since our middle two lines were quite literally a mirror images (and obviously the talent gap). As much as I love Smitty; they need someone like him with a little more talent and who knows.. maybe Lundkvist doesn't sign and we keep Smith around, while adding another defensive minded defensemen for the right side.

I'm in purgatory as much as the rest of Rangers nation. I'm sure this is the furthest thing from a correct answer and I'm sure i'll be flamed for this response .. but to me they have the offense; they just need to round out the defensive side. If they can do that without selling the farm, hand out the right contracts and save some cap space; they've taken the right steps forward and are ahead of schedule.</div></div>

Lundkvist will sign, he only delayed it a year because of covid and the uncertainty that comes with it

Rangers desperately need a center that’s hard to play against. Currently too soft, not physical enough up the center. They need a 200ft guy, good defensively, has character and a leader.

I was just seeing what Barkov would look like

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles10</b></div><div>It’s so ridicolous. Zajac/Komarov/Dal Colle is playing regularly top-6 minutes... Coburn - Greene, the worst D-pair in the entire league? Sitting Dobson/Wahlstrom/Bellows/Hickey for these players. wtf is going on? Lou said that he and Barry had talked a lot about what the Islanders needed come deadline, surely Lou must have thought that Palmieri would replace Lee!? I’m not getting it. How the *uck can you be as stubborn as Trotz? This team is not carried by him any longer, we have enough talent to be good under another coach with a more balanced system. So tired of both Lou and Trotz. Thank you for all you’ve done, goodbye.</div></div>

Coburn- Greene + Zajac-nelson-palmieri were the two worst line combinations by expected goals % ALL SEASON. Not one other line combination performed worse than those two.

I know outsiders think that Trotz is some god, but he really is killing the team right now. I respect what hes brought to the team since he arrived in 2018 - but now it feels like Trotz is intentionally trying to lose games. It's embarrassing. He calls out wahlstrom meanwhile zajac had one of the worst defensive impacts among isles forwards this season...Remember that lazy play that led to mantha's breakaway ? if wahlstrom would have pulled that sh*t he would have been sent to Bridgeport.

And speaking of Wahlstrom , now all of a sudden fans parrot trotz and act like its fine if wahlstrom is the odd man out moving forward. Despite not producing as of late, Wahlstrom is 100% a top 5 forward on this team and scratching him if hes healthy is criminal.
