ehhhhhh
LMAO obviously a bad trade. Since this is a leafs roster though, I could do Nylander + 1st for Bertuzzi and the only comments I'll get is that Detroit says no. I'm just trying to making the roster fit in the cap.

Nevermind... Evolving Hockey predictions has Hamilton at 9.2 and Landeskog at 9.4, both 8 years. My dreams are dead once again.

Cap increase to 882 million
Why not $111 000 000 for Pietrangelo?

And they just acquired Athanasiou at the deadline, why would they go after Johnsson? Forty point wingers can be purchased in free agency without giving up significant assets.</div></div>
The point of the exercise was to fit in Pietro. That trade can be swapped out for whatever draft picks or prospects the Leafs could acquire in exchange for 5.4MM off the books.

Optimism
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bryceguy</b></div><div>Well... it's titled optimism for a reason :). But yeah, I can see Pietrangelo going for closer to 9. Not much incentive to come from a good Blues team to Toronto either, but at least we can front load the contract.
Trade doesn't seem too crazy to me. Holl and Johnsson are both good pickups, Johnsson will be back to start the season and EDM could always use more wingers. Really though, it's in there as a cap dump - could be other picks coming back rather than the 1st.</div></div>
Edited to reflect true optimism and slightly more realism... 88.2M cap and Pietro at 9.5

Minor Movement for Manson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>Sure! Carolina would make a real solid trade partner, but stop offering up Bracco and a 9th rounder for Pesce 50% retained. 99% of the offers for Pesce on here are a joke. Guys a stud. They would make great trade partners if the leafs offer up Nylander. If that doesn’t happen, there isn’t anything to discuss.</div></div>
Right, well I'm not offering peanuts for Pesce. He scored a hat trick against the leafs not long ago... But there's very few defencemen in the league worth trading Nylander for.
Considering Carolina has Justin Williams playing in their top 6, I doubt they'd scoff at a trade centered around Kapanen/Johnsson.

Minor Movement for Manson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>Oh don’t you dare even bring pesce into this. Leave Carolina alone.
Be honest with yourself. If Dermott had tons of upside, you probably wouldn’t want to trade him. Manson could be had, but the leafs would have to give up something they don’t want to. Think of it this way, if you don’t want him, other teams probably don’t either.</div></div>
I said specifically that the Leafs don't want to trade him. The issue is that the leafs need a guy with similar qualities but more experience. It's possible Dermott turns into the guy they need, but it means waiting a few years, and by then maybe it's too late for your core. If the right RD is available, I'm not opposed to trading Lilj instead - again, it's about timing.
Also, why the hell would't Carolina consider trading a D? It gets brought up a lot because it's an obvious trade partner. They have D. They want more scoring (...and goaltending).

Manson your thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Anaheim needs right-side defenders, whether right-handed or not. (We'd be fine with Alec Martinez, Jonas Brodin or Marcus Nutivaara, for example.) Now that we've traded Korbinian Holzer, the only right-handed defensemen in the entire organization (including farm) signed for next year are Josh Manson, Eric Gudbranson and the newly-acquired Axel Andersson. (On our Reserve List is Hunter Drew.) Here's our depth chart:
C: Getzlaf, Henrique, Steel, Lundestrom*, Zegras**, Groulx*, Morand* (* = non-roster; ** = unsigned)
LW: Heinen, Jones, Milano, Comtois*, Des Lauriers, Tracey*, McLaughlin**
RW: Rakell (also plays LW), Silfverberg, Terry, Sherwood
LD: Fowler, Lindholm, Larsson, Guhle, Mahura*, LaCombe**
RD: Manson, Gudbranson, Andersson*
G: Gibson, Dostal*
As you can see, there's plenty of depth at forward and left defense, and we have one of the five best goalies in the League. The glaring deficiency is at RD.</div></div>
Fair enough. Thanks for the insight. Manson is obviously an attractive target but unless ANA are burning it to the ground, it doesn't make any sense to frame a trade between two teams with the same needs (RD).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>No. No no no. You’re just starting with a flawed concept here. You’re trying to give up a bunch of stuff you don’t really care about losing for something the leafs need. That’s not going to happen.</div></div>
Not necessarily. Dermott has a ton of upside - the Leafs would rather not trade him. Johnsson likely won't improve much but is a valuable piece. Liljegren especially has a ton of upside. This isn't a spare parts trade. But... if Manson isn't moving, then he's not moving. 2 of those three Leafs players should be enough to get a Manson-equivalent RD back, maybe from Carolina.

Minor Movement for Manson
I was basing off a Kapanen for Manson trade, but was under the impression the ducks wanted a D piece going back. Johnsson + Dermott seems like an overpay for Manson straight up. And Boston's first is likely to be 25th-31st overall. Perhaps Liljegren + Johnsson for Manson and a 2nd is more reasonable? I don't hate that trade from a Leafs perspective.

JONES
I agree that 2 years of Jones likely isn't worth it, but with Marner's contract gone, it gives lots of space to re-sign both Jones and Rielly. As well, I hate it, but I am starting to think that Marner may be the sacrificial lamb needed to drive team success. He seems to be the one who doesn't bring it when the team gets on a downward spiral. But who really knows outside the team.
