Pens 23-24
Hawks decline. Cost to move Granny on his own to the Hawks is probably the Pens '24 2nd. $5m in cap space for two years doesn't come for free in today's NHL. No interest at all in Ruhwedel either.

Hawks decline. Not debating the value of the trade, but Hayes was a Hawks 1st round pick who refused to sign in Chicago. That bridge is burned and has floated down the Chicago River. He's probably one of the last guys the Hawks would trade for.

I'm good with either the 3rd or the 4th. My take on Granny is he's just overpaid for what he is now as a player. He's not a cap dump in the true sense. I don't have a problem taking him if the pick swap favors the Hawks, which it does here. I'd think any reasonable trade where the Hawks acquire pick #14 without giving up #19 is a trade that deserves a close look.

Who to target at the draft
the crazy thing about this years draft is there is so much depth from 5 to about 30. Entirely possible that Moore or Wood could be there at 19 and Barlow and Danielson could go in the top 10-12. Love all 4 of those options though and I'd be happy with any of them. I also dont think its out of the realm of possibility we pick up another 1st rounder and take a run at reinbacher/ASP or another RHD depending on when the pick is

Thread:
Who to target at the draft
Oliver Moore: isn't just "the fastest", he is the best (or one of the best) all around skaters in the draft. But, yes, I would love to target him if there is a way to move up far enough. This draft could go SO many different ways.
Big bodies: Last year Wood was solidly ranked in the top of the draft and then the season started and he seemed to teeter on the edge of being a 2nd round pick for most of the year, then all of a sudden he is back in that top 15 echelon. I'm not sure why he shot back up all of a sudden. Definitely wouldn't mind adding a skilled big body like him, Barlow, Danielson, But, or Honzek, though.
Cristall and Dragicevic: I wouldn't consider either of them until the mid 2nd to early 3rd area. Of course that depends on who is available, but I think it'd be a significant reach otherwise. Which, if we got our hands on one or two more 1st round picks, I wouldn't exactly mind if they did a little reaching if they were pretty high on a guy. At the same time, I think they need to make every pick count. Picking "the best available player" also means those players could be valuable trade assets down the road to help address roster needs. So, it both 'is' and 'isn't' always about "drafting for the Hawks", but also judging what the gap in talent is and if it would be more beneficial to get more value over team needs or vise versa.
Either way, I love the discussion around this draft and I am super pumped to see what happens! I have a feeling this could go down as one of the best drafts ever, in hindsight. Maybe that is just because I am more involved than I ever have been. I was a dumb teenager last time the Hawks were rebuilding, so I didn't understand or care what was going on, I just rooted for them. haha

Not to nitpick but ya nitpicking Brandon is in the whl. Danielson is a solid pick, not sure on ceiling, but probably come in and play a role, 2c to 4c whatever is needed. Not a bad 2c behind bedard.

Pretty crazy that you think the hawks would give up #19 in this stacked draft for those 2 players that haven't done much of anything to prove they're worth such a return

A.) Blackhawks are looking to get a high pick next year
B.) It’s time to get Soderblom ice time to se what he’s got
C.) it’s time to get Commesso ice time (Rockford) to start developing him. Murray would block B.) C.)

Ottawa paid a 3rd and a 4th last offseason to unload two years of Murray with a little money retained. In no world does the cost of unloading Murray with now only one year left jump to a 1st (regardless of the 4th coming back). MAYBE a 3rd if Toronto is feeling desperate but that return on one year left at under 5m isnt realistic.
By the same token the return on Debrincat isn't realistic at all. A future 1st, as opposed to one this year when you own two, and a a handful of players that don't really move the needle. Hard pass.

No need to get angry. I'm not the Pens GM. You're not Chi GM. It's all cool.
That is the deal that the Pens would likely accept. Anything more and they buy out.
Or keep him. Maybe Dubas loves Granlund... I don't know.

It's 0.8MM in year 1, 1.8MM for the next 2, and 0.8MM for the 4th year.
I wouldn't trade an A prospect for a B+ prospect and 2MM in cap. Maybe you would. That’s cool. Difference in opinion.
