Caps Future
I think those deal with Ovi and Backy look about right. Hoping Ovi is nice to us and gives us a good discount to end his career here.

You know, I hope you are right. That would be better for the team salary structure obviously...

Makes sense. I would think that Ovi/Backstrom don't wanna leave and will gracefully age out, Backstrom stays the same and Ovi drops to about $7-8mil.

Brian MacClellan said they will be 'sentimental' with OVI and Backy so doesn't seem like he will push back much during negotiations. Not sure about Ovi but really don't think his deal goes up much if at all. Backstrom I think will get the max 8 yrs for 8.5 per. I think Bmac would love to keep Holtby (even though we have Samsanov waiting). I don't think he has the same view as most fans who think you should trade them after 30 years old. If he does resign him (Holtby) he gets right below Hank money wise, maybe a 5 or 6 year deal for 8+ per. There are few goalies that get this kind of deal past 30 though but I think Holtby is the kind of player that's deserving of this although I understand peoples apprehensions...We could then trade Samsanov for a 1st and a real good top 9 forward I imagine if we go long with Holtby. All I know is that I will trust BMac. He has earned my trust. Thanks for the questions BTW.

idk - just testing the waters
If I'm being totally honest, I don't think anyone will trade for Burakovsky because they won't want to pick up his $3 million+ qualifying offer. I thinking the Caps will have to non-tender him and try to sign him that way, but it's more likely that he walks for nothing and someone else signs him for cheap. That's just me though, maybe some team is happy to take a flier on him

You can't move Johnson in a hockey trade because he can't play hockey

That's not enough for both Brodin and Spurgeon, more like value for Spurgeon alone. Also, I don't think you can view Backes as the sweetener necessary to take on JJ contract, even though I agree with you about Backes @ 1.5 M being decent value.</div></div>
I was thinking that maybe too but spurgeon is a pending UFA so i thought it might lower his value if he ends up being a rental.

They weren't offloaded though. And even if they were their contracts are nothing. Del Zotto has 2 months or less left at a $3M then is a UFA. McQuaid has 2 more months or less at $2.75M. Gudbransson has 2 more season after this at $4M, Johnson has 4 more years at $3.25M. It's not even close.

19-20 Leafs Cap - Moves to accommodate Marner
Zaitzev is the exact opposite kind of contract that the Sens will be looking for in the offseason to reach the cap floor. His contract has lengthy term, is full of signing bonuses, and his actual salary is equal to the AAV.
The Sens will be targeting contracts that only have 1-2 years left, and where the real money to be paid out is less than the value of the cap hit. Melnyk is trying to save money, why would he take on that absolutely awful Zaitzev contract?

You know what I didn’t hate Hal Gill. I knew someone would comment that but he was okay on pit and the game was a lot slower than it is now. He was a much better fit than JJ/EG in 2019 and he was very solid for our cup run in 2009. scuderi was too That’s why I had to specify the 2014 version

hag isnt a 4th line player..... hes a bottom 6 but his talent level is above your average 4th line. the capitals have a below average pk and he will help make that better plus his speed will cause a lot of issues for 4th line match ups.. also a 3rd is nothing....you guys dumped every 1st round pick for the last what? 5 years and just gave fla 3 picks in a lateral move?

I actually think its a great move for Jensen. I like him better than the Kempny move last year.</div></div>
well yeah. and those are some interesting statistics and measurements but at same time i wouldnt go so far as to say Bowey is terrible. He's just young and inexperienced and won't be able to help Capitals now or next year even which goes to both of our points that this is a trade that is totally worth it for Capitals because they don't have a need for Bowey right now and will be fine in the future because they have Alexeyev and Johansen but can use Jansen to continue their run for another cup

Bowey is not good enough to play in the NHL and he certainly isnt one of our best defensive prospects. Also looking at Jensen's analytics he's been a bright spot on a very bad Detroit team. I like that trade for both sides, and I don't think a late third for Hagelin is too much of an overpayment considering prices always rise at the deadline

I don't think that, that's why the Flyers get two 1st round picks. What I said is Simmonds isn't as valuable as Brayden Schenn, who netted two 1sts as well. In that case, the Blues got rid of Lehtera, who had two years left. In this case, the Bruins get rid of Backes.
