I would honestly sell out at this point an cash Seguin in for assets because I don't see them besting St. Louis, Nashville, or Winnipeg this season. The Stars core is still not as good as the Hawks particularly when it comes to the playoffs so I think the window has closed on this Stars core winning unless they pickup a shutdown D who can absorb big minutes like Josi, Suter, Petro, and Kieth do in the division</div></div>
Sell Seguin? Yikes. The Stars missed the playoffs this year because of one bad road stretch. It wouldn't even remotely surprise me to see them in the Cup final with another addition or two.

Pacioretty would be a solid fit with us and could be had for fairly cheap.
Put Nichushkin back up with Benn & Seguin .. reunite Patch and Radulov with either Faksa or Spezza up the middle.

Sounds like he wants out of Ohio in general, but yeah who knows at this point...
To me, I'd put Panarin on the second line to try to rejuvenate both Spezza and Nichsuhkin's careers. Then stack up the PP1.
Of course, I'd only really like this deal if he re-signs, even for just a 2-4 year deal or so.

The obsession with forwards is incredible on this thread. The scoring will happen with or without Marner.... go get an elite puck distributor that will still help Freddy in the d-zone. If not, every game will be 7-5 win or lose.

Dubas is doing a great job but we can't forget who's really making the moves here. Shanny will do whatever it takes to end the drought as soon as possible - they won't have an issue scoring goals with JT in the mix, along with the depth all through the bottom 6 - but their D-core right now is shaky.

It's hard to take any report seriously right now. But you are 100% right, if we don't give up Heiskanen - we have to sell the farm AND obtain Ryan. I personally think he's going to be a Bolt if Point and/or Sergachev are involved but who knows right now.

Overpaying much? You're the type of dude that goes in a yard sale, sees something he likes, ask for the price (5 bucks), then gives the guy a 20 with a smile thinking "wow! That's a steal!"...totally out of touch with reality. I would be VERY hesitant to do that exact same deal for Connor McDavid...probably would not do it. It needs work, man</div></div>
Ok that's good stuff I can't lie but we're not really comparing these guys to McDavid, right? Marner is not worth the 8-10M he's going to get when the cap keeps rising. Leafs fans would schedule the parade if this happened.
To be fair, I don't necessarily think Liljegren needs to be in this. Can I have my 20 back?

For Erik Karlsson and a prime chance to make a run within the next 2-years, yes. Maybe, if anything, they can spare Liljegren being involved - but the rest are expendable if they're getting Karlsson.

Ever? When the Bolts are "reportedly" involving Sergachev, Point + prospects and picks? Marner has a high ceiling but you may be overvaluing him if you think the Leafs wouldn't consider this - especially considering his upcoming tag. Elite defenseman are few and far between, they can replace Marner - potentially even in-house with Johnsson or Kapanen with the right opportunity.

Talk has been just that ... there's been zero reliable reports throughout this entire development. As long as the Leafs aren't on his 'No Trade' list - it could happen IMO.

Kadri is a huge piece here.. and since when is 25 old for a goaltender - or any player stuck in the minors for that matter? It took Dubnyk multiple years and organizations to develop into what he is today.
And what leverage does OTT have here? They just watched Tavares leave the Islanders in turmoil (maybe not literally but in terms of what they could have acquired via trade earlier in the process)
This is all probably hypothetical but the Sens have to move him for something, no?

Kadri, Sparks and Bracco are key pieces here. Not to mention the depth + two 1st rounders. If Liljegren gets in this deal somehow I think they take it immediately - could possibly remove a 1st rounder.

Tavares
Great points, I love what Vegas did this year and they could absolutely pay him more than any other team in the league without a doubt. However, I just don't see them replicating that. I think he looks at Vegas as another scenario where he'd have to carry the load. Again, the 'Golden Misfits' season was absolutely amazing but they would be one of my 'bust' teams for 2019 just based on them riding purely off emotion this past season. As for JT, I'd be shocked if he signs with Dallas to be honest but you can't ignore the tax benefits he gets from moving to Texas. The Stars could offer him 10-11M which could be less than the Leafs, Sharks, etc - although long-term he would still make more money in Dallas. Similar to why Radulov signed with Dallas over MTL despite the same exact price tag. I think the captain vacancy is an interesting point but I'm not sure JT is the type of player to base all his decisions on that. In conclusion, I think he stays with NYI - can't forget Stamkos let himself go into a sweepstakes only to re-sign with the Bolts. I could easily see Tavares staying loyal as the captain and franchise player.

Impossible. They still have to re-sign Seguin, plus Nichushkin isn't even on here and will make roughly 3M for the next 2-years.

Isn't the idea of taking Ryan to help bring down the value of Karlsson? Not sure VGK would have to deal this many picks if Ryan's salary comes with him.

Dallas Stars 2018-2019
It's definitely a bit costly, but that's with the inevitable overpaying for UFA's in mind. I still think he gets every bit of 5M-5.5M AAV
Methot (3.9M) would come off the books at the end of 2019. We'd definitely need to lean on Heiskanen and Bayreuther firmly in our Top 6 to stay under the cap in 2020.
Brassard (5M) would also be off the books if they even went that route, leaving us plenty of room for Seguin's 3.75M raise to match Benn's AAV.
