13 and 23 hockey trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brocklesnar</b></div><div>2 years of Johnny then him bolting to Philly or New Jersey?</div></div>
The "go home" thing is only Philly. I also think it's overblown. Huge family and he's been vocal about liking playing away from his hometown. He chose a junior team, college team, and the Flames (could have walked as UFA) away from Philly. He might like to, but all his actions to date suggest that is a narrative fabricated by serial liar Eric Francis. I think anything in the east gets him close enough to home if his desire is real.

13 and 23 hockey trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brocklesnar</b></div><div>Panthers decline.</div></div>
I think they accept. Anton Stralman is washed and nearing the end. Huberdeau has the edge over Gaudreau despite similar production but Hanifin has a wider edge over Stralman's trade value. Perhaps the pick goes on the Flames side given Huberdeau has the extra year over Gaudreau but this value is close given the cost certainty on Hanifin.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SociallyHawkward</b></div><div>Interesting trades but I still think it'd be a mistake to trade monahan. If lindholm is good enough to be a #1 center they should have been playing lindholm and monahan as their 1/2 centers.</div></div>
The only certainty is Backlund is a real 2C. 41st in scoring for centers and probably top 15 defensively at the position. I dont think either Lindholm or Monahan is a real 1C. Lindholm played wing because of lack of options on the right side. Lindholm also played some C with Monahan on the wing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mike_Gartner</b></div><div>what does a blog post from over 2 years ago have to do with ADA today?</div></div>
The podcast he just launched and the topics it intends to cover suggest he never learned his lesson. Plus, in a hockey market like Calgary, the incident referred to in that blog post will absolutely resurface. No chance he's on their acquisition list.

I get that, but they would need to do that 3-4 times on really toxic contracts. It leaves too much work left. Optically this is also terrible with Ryan coming off a Masterton Trophy.

They have to get to the floor still. Nobody is lining up to play in Ottawa and they don't have a bunch of players in need of raises.

Nobody honestly knows. They don't need the cap space, they need guys to play for them, and they aren't going to be good for a couple years anyway. Really bad look on the team. Now they get saddled with him on the cap for 4 years instead of 2.

The 'Watch Your Tone' podcast 2nd.
Calgary just got rid of a racist coach. They aren't going to stick their neck out for a player walking a problematic line.

Why would Calgary do that? Give up the better player plus an extra asset and take on an attitude problem.

That is significantly more than a first. I'd argue you won't even get a first without taking a bad cap hit back like Lucic's where he's owed less than his cap hit or retaining which is out of the question.

Calgary should fire their GM if it's one for one. Dumba isn't fair value for Monahan.

He played on that exact line in that exact position, yes. No team has a fourth line that is competitive against other team's top lines. They get hidden. Teams use their 2nd and third lines for this.

Mangiapane led the team in 5 on 5 scoring, would have been one of their leading scorers with more powerplay time, a quality 4th line is overrated, and Valimaki is expected to be very good. The team needs more scoring depth admittedly but those aren't the issues.

Leading goal scorer at 5 on 5. He's getting paid. This is based on the Andreas Johnsson contract with an extra year.

I was looking at faceoffs taken and it looks like PLD already spends some time there? Either way I think you need a guy like Bjorkstrand for Monahan. No way around it.
