Gally in the NHL.
Hallander + 2nd or 2nd? Hallander's worth a 2nd, two 2nds is too much; maybe a 2nd + late pick.

If deal happens Friday it works. Each day earlier would require 1% or 2% more retention on Ekholm. Armchair gm isn't accurate for mid-season trades.
Taxi squad I just placed anyone that I considered a viable callup.

Cup Run Ekholm Ryan IN Nobody OUT
Rentals don't get a 2nd unless they're higher caliber, pedigree and producing. Ryan could get a 2nd but only if he get's hot; 2 goals in his last 26 games isn't enough. Maybe a conditional 3rd that becomes a 2nd if either Ryan's production is high or the team goes deep with him playing the majority of the playoff games.
Here's some comparable rental trades:

The Cap Works Iafallo amp Ekholm IN Dermott OUT
Just tested the trade in terms of cap space; the trade machine is broken & doesn't correctly deal prospect's contracts.
Really it'd be something like:
Iafallo (@50%) for LHD Dermott + 3rd.
Ekholm (@32%) for 1st round pick 2021 (TOR), LW/C Rodion Amirov, & another prospect like C Hallander (or even as high as RHD Liljegren if necessary)

Don't think it's unreasonable that he wouldn't take a pay cut to contend, play for his hometown team, have a chance to play with guys like Matthews-Marner, Tavares-Nylander. He performs well it could bring up his value for his next deal, he's gotta be at an all time low right now. Bogosian isn't from Toronto area but he signed 1m deal there, Thornton & Spezza signed actual league minimum 0.7m to contend for their hometown team; Spezza has signed 0.7m twice now, Simmonds did for 1.5m down from his last deal of 5m to do the same. Brodie is from the area and signed for a very reasonable 5m. Think Dubas would have to pitch him that he'd get the opportunity to play with either Matthews-Marner or JT-Nylander at least initially.
League minimum is 750k for next season btw and it'll still be a COVID market.

Leafs cup run Granlund Merrill Namestikov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Onslaught77</b></div><div>One thing I will say is almost everyone on here is going to be expecting too much for players. Almost every single "we can get more" comment is wrong. There's maybe 3 teams that aren't up against the actual cap or their owners enforced cap. Most owners have told their GM, this is your team, we aren't taking on any more salary. The "we will keep him" might be valid but if teams are looking for picks or assets your selection of teams is very small.</div></div>
Honestly when making these I'm not trying to get the popular vote. Just trying to make good deals I could see the Leafs realistically make and winning and/or benefiting from. It's been said that it's a buyers market because demand is low this season.

USA really needs it given the players they'll likely have. It's gotta really strengthen Coleman's case in that he probably one of the best penalty killers around. For Oshie just keep him as the 13th F which they dress 19 skaters for these... they don't even have to play him, just have him ready for the dumb shootouts the Olympics have in deciding medals. I remember watching a world cup soccer tournament where one team had a big tall backup goalie who would just study the kickers for shootouts or penalties whatever they call them and he was really good for them. Would get in the kicker's face and tell them he knew what they were going to do.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>"Completely disagree with that take on Doughty, he didn't fall off a cliff for 150 games" How?
"Price but when he's on he's Canada's best goalie" That's the thing with Price. It's almost as if wee need to wait for him to decide if he wants to play at his best or not. No time for that, just go with a goalie that is great consistently.
"I'd pick him over Kuemper easily. Even then probably a mistake not picking him over Kuemper" Kuemper has been a top5 G over the past 2-3 years but okay.</div></div>
Nope Kuemper's been really good though, so has Hart who's only 22, 23 next year & Kuemper is out with an injury for some time. Canada get's to pick 3 goalies so why not pick the one with the most upside a good track record at that kind of stage? There were rumours about Price's personal life & well being being a distraction to his game, and his workload caused him to play through too much fatigue than he could manage. It's very common for goalies to go through stretches where they aren't as good but then come back too life. Bobrovsky is the most inconsistent of them all. Gibson now has not been playing nearly as well as he had been season to season, but he'll likely get it together. Doughty was a very good defenseman for those 150 games but got largely criticized for his 11m long term deal he had just signed. Before that he was among the very best few defenseman in the league for a while. People were wrong to give up on him while his team sucked, thinking he was headed for a drastic decline. Clearly that's not the case. I'd pick him even when he was playing 'bad for him'

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>Hart hasn't been good but so does Price. And Price hasn't played well for 3 years while Hart has been a great G since arriving in the NHL. Blackwood, Kuemper are other great options.
If you asked me in the offseason:
-Dougie Hamilton
-Alex Pietrangelo
-Jared Spurgeon
-Ryan Ellis
-Shea Theodore
-Thomas Chabot
-Cale Makar
-Morgan Rielly
-Aaron Ekblad
-Kris Letang
As I said, at least 10, there could be more and this was before the beginning of the season. It appears Doughty has played well so far this season but a 25-game sample size doesn't outweigh a 150+ game sample size. We'll see this season and next year, if Doughty is still elite, I will gladly put him on the team. The most important thing is to have your best players.
Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a free pass due to his reputation like Price even if he's average/good.</div></div>
Completely disagree with that take on Doughty, he didn't fall off a cliff for 150 games. Price though yea his rep will play a huge part but when he's on he's Canada's best goalie. Goalies are so hard to pick you really gotta weigh heavily who's hot at the moment. Likewise I had to pick Fleury who's hot again. If Hart wasn't having such a bad season I'd pick him over Kuemper easily. Even then probably a mistake not picking him over Kuemper.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>There are some defensemen who unlike Doughty, have been great the past two years (and this season). Obviously, still 11 months to go before the Olympics and a lot can change but imo, Doughty needs to keep his level play at an elite level until February 2022 to even be considered. Right now, I would have 10 D (at least) on my team before him. You want to win, send your best players.
Girard has been great but he's been sheltered and he was a 2nd pair D the past year(s). Parayko, maybe an extra. Hamilton and Ekblad need to be regulars though.</div></div>
10 D?! I'd like to see that list... Ekblad is a very good consideration, I had Parayko over him in large part because of his skating on Olympic ice and he & Rielly were great together on team N.A. Don't think Doughty has much he needs to prove given his entire career. Think I chose who I thought were all the best players besides Rielly & Girard, who were close enough that I picked for fit.

Almost. I thought Coleman would be fixture since he's still pretty good but really good on the penalty kill while for the rest of the forwards there's a lack of that. Oshie too is there to but literally as the extra 13th forward or 4th line just for shootouts.

Just because he's regressed doesn't mean he goes from top pairing to off the roster, look at the year he's having now that his team isn't so bad. Girard has taken a big step this year and LHD is thin compared to the right side. He's 22, will be another year older and his ability to skate will be advantageous on the Olympic ice. He or Hamilton would need to kill penalties if they stepped in because Makar & Theodore straight up do not. Rielly can & has but not a ton.
