I’d put Haula into a more defensive role and pair Foegele’s speed with Jack and then probably Mercer

That's what my target was with Fehevary to fill that exact role, and a good defensive 2nd pair LHD is what I've been preaching ALL YEAR LONG, from Pettersson to Hanifin (who is good defensively and on the PK) to anyone else.
I think yeah 3rd line guys who can score some and play 2 way to fill out the bottom 6 is the goal. Speed and Size are keys in this area.
Foegele, Trenin, Malenstyn, Rossi, etc etc. Maybe replace clarke with a 2 way veteran like Martinook

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caufield</b></div><div>I highly doubt that. Bahl is a bottom pair guy, Guhle is easily a top 3 D, same for Hughes. Sure, Hughes is the better offensive player, but Guhle has the upper hand defensively. Hughes is an offensive D, while Guhle is more of a 2-way D, so they aren’t really the same type of guy. Hughes receives the point for being a year younger, but comparing this season, they aren’t that far off realistically</div></div>
The difference in upside is absolutely massive.

Frankly I'm hoping to fleece him based on his down year and a role on a long term contender. There is money available for a raise if needed, or could go to a bridge if he really plays hardball

Unless your giving us luke hughes instead of the pick why wpuld we trade the 9th youngest nhl regular dman for at best a older worse dman.</div></div>
Or a slightly older, better dman like Martin Fehevary could probably be had for that pick. <a href="/users/NHLFan10506" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@NHLFan10506</a> keep Rossi and trade 13th overall to Washington for Fehevary

But just saying in a vaccuum I'd 100% do this

That’s a ****ton to pay for an 8.25 mill (until he’s 37) goalie coming off a mediocre season

Vasilevsky is a legendary goalie. But he makes 9.5 mill a year coming off a down year heading into his 30s. I'd prefer NJD to not pay for what guys have done rather than what they'll do in the future.

The bonus overages are automatically worked into cap friendly. You’ve double counted. The cap is 87.7

Yeah idk what that caliber of player would be that’s available tho. Maybe a centrepiece of acquiring a star?
Maybe for Zegras, but I don’t think id trade Guhle for Zegras 1 for 1 and no way Anaheim wants another LHD

TVR is quite good imo. I’d take him on as a pair for Marino on his offside, but not at the price of a 1st. I think I’d give up a 2nd for him

Not signing another goalie. Bussi and DiPietro would battle in camp for backup role. Neither will be waiver exempt. Loser might be traded or claimed when put on waivers.</div></div>
Haula also wouldn’t waive his NTC for any team based on every indication he’s given

Another Rossi Idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Lot of different factors there:
- They traded Romanov because they knew they had Guhle (who had yet to play a game in the NHL yet) ready to step up and take his place, and probably didn't want Romanov blocking his path.
- Romanov was probably at his highest possible value when he was traded for 13th overall.
- Habs management probably value Guhle much higher than they did Romanov.
Look, you've made trade proposals on here for Guhle (for Holtz), other teams fan bases have made pitches for Guhle as well (this thread being another example)...Why? Because he's MTLs most well-rounded two-way LD with top pairing potential.
And I've said this before, 1 on 1 comparisons never being perfect, but Guhle is essentially a younger version of Jacob Slavin. Teams don't trade those kinds of players; they keep them around. Which is why Guhle should be considered an untouchable for MTL.
Not to mention it looks like Guhle will be signing an extension this summer. Probably somewhere in the range of $5.5mil aav (mid to short term) and as high $7mil aav (8 year max deal).</div></div>
I have consistently said Guhle is worth a top 10 pick and they shouldn’t move him. But using the Dach deal, he was acquired by trading away a promising young dman
