Do It Again
No chance all of this happens. Laine has less years left on his contract and he's a little bit better. Spence, Byfield, tarasenko, talbot and rosloic(just a little bit) get more money. Let play the youg guy they are ready. I'm talking about lafferière and thomas.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>Short answer, they’re not. I am curious why Boone Jenner would ever be worth more than Sam Bennett. Also, I think if you trade for Bennett, you don’t really need Jenner. But I’m also pretty sure Florida expects to get more if they’re trading Bennett.</div></div>
They're pretty similar, especially given production, but the difference is Bennett isn't the longest-tenured player in Florida franchise history, the current captain, and on a team-friendly deal he signed specifically to stay with the team.
The reasons Buffalo has to never move Tuch? Same for Columbus, except Jenner is also the most significant player in our sad franchise's history. It's like expecting to pry Crosby out of Pittsburgh by paying only market value for a 36-year-old UFA-to-be center. We'd only consider moving him if it was a crazy, "your-GM-gets-fired" type offer.
I'll continue to say the same thing I say every time I see this proposal: that's fine for Jenner the player, but not enough to actually pry him out of Columbus. He's untouchable.

Trade Marner and rebuild the Defence
I won't address the trade, it's an obvious no and <a href="/users/dopplsan" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@dopplsan</a> already covered it all.
I will say: Toronto needs to temper their expectations for a Marner trade. Yes, he's moveable even with a full NMC, but he's going to use it to dictate exactly where he wants to go (a la Kaberle to Boston). Everyone knows that, everyone knows it's Marner that's going to go, and everyone knows they only make that trade if they're going to extend him. He's not taking a pay cut, so to opportunity to pay him $11M+ for 7-8 more years isn't exactly attractive either.
The cap space alone is a valuable asset, and Toronto should see it as a win if they get a 1st and a top prospect back from a contender for him without retaining.
If Toronto can move both Tavares and Marner without retaining any salary, and can actually get back a 1st and a top prospect + additional secondary pieces, having that extra $22M in cap space is gold alone.

Celebrini highly unlikely
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>I am pulling for CBJ to land Celebrini, but at the same time I think if they do he will make them a playoff team, but they still won't have a real franchise player to make them an actual cup contender.</div></div>
Depending on how Fantilli develops, he may be their franchise player. I feel like if Fantilli is in this draft he goes 1st overall even over Celebrini. But what Columbus needs to become a real contender is management that isn’t afraid to make difficult decisions, and a team where each player compliments each other, as opposed to what they have now which on most nights is a team showing up for 80% of the game and disappearing at the most vital moments.

Few ideas for 2024
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Headhack</b></div><div>Fair enough, not the best trade partners cause we're at a similar spot in the rebuild and needing the same thing.
However I would imagine Harris + Beck + Winnipeg 1st would make it value wise (overpay imo not peanuts) but this might just make the team Mid. Dach (former 3OA) higher ceiling then Sillinger at the time got traded for 13 OA.</div></div>
We arent interested in quantity over quality. Harris, Beck and a late 1st does not meet any of our needs, so we would have no reason to make that trade. You would have to offer a high end piece that results in us getting a comparable value player, so either a top 6 caliber prospect or a top 15 pick. It going to be painful to trade for a talented young player, you would be losing a player or asset that you dont want to.

Best case scenario for Sillinger is probably Anthony Cirelli. Good defensive 2/3C on a contender. He won’t even be 21 for ten more days, so no reason to move on yet. So not as high a ceiling as KJ but less likely to be traded, if that makes sense.

"I know you guys need high end forward talent but that's not what we'd be offering. Spare me with you have don't have what we need."
Well, then, the only possible answer is a simple "no", without elaboration, because you've explicitly requested not to hear the actual reasons why it's a nonstarter.

Yeah, I'd take that desperation dump deal. My opposition to Marner is the high cost of acquisition and/or retention compared to what I think he'd bring to the team, and that nicely eliminates one of those big concerns.

Mtl picks 5th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>Chiming in as a CBJ fan. I think they go forward. The top-10 caliber defenseman in this draft are almost all offensive defensemen, which they've already got in spades, or play LHD specifically, which is pretty deep organizationally. Probably take Demidov without even blinking if they land second overall, but failing that, whichever of the centers the scouts like most: Lindstrom, Catton, Helenius. Easier to take the center now even if he ends up a wing later.
I know Habs fans are hoping CBJ wins a lottery spot since they're the other most likely to take a forward in the projected top six or seven teams, which leaves the most choice available for Montreal.</div></div>
Thanks for chiming in, always interested in hearing other fans perspectives. If the draft order stays the same I can realistically see a scenario where Demidov falls to you. Chicago could easily be looking for a future #1 dman, and Anaheim could do the same after trading Drysdale for Gauthier.

So let me get this straight…The Jackets, who need a 1C, is going to move the pick we could use to get him for another high priced winger? No. Plus, Celebrini would be team controlled for 7 years at pretty cheap price. On top of all this, you want Sillinger too? He was born in Columbus and is again a C which is what the Jackets need to develop depth at. This was not a well thought trade.
