Wings 24-25 Dream Overhaul
We'll call that Laine trade a "maybe". The Wings are doing well enough that I'm not sure if the two 1sts are going to be attractive enough, but it's a fair effort, despite the noise of throwing in bodies like Veleno and Johansson.

Go for Laine

But yeah the retention is a huge thing.</div></div>
Laine isn't underachieving; when he's played in union blue, he's near-PPG. The injuries have largely been freak accidents, but yes, there've been entirely too many of them, so it's not unreasonable to hesitate on that basis. If we opt to move him, we'd want a package that's commesurate with a top-line near-PPG winger.

I'm pretty sure Calgary would prefer to hold on to Future Considerations. Possibly Columbus as well, given how many depth blueliners are already over here.

Attempt to Fix this kinda
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>I don’t. Norris was a 2 way centre pre injury: last thing they need is a worse version of Tarasenko who can’t play defence.
They need 2 way players not to spend money on more scoring</div></div>
You're not wrong about the lack of fit, but also not being totally fair here about respective injury risk. Laine's injuries have all been one-off freak injuries to different parts of his body, two of them this season as a result of dirty hits by other players (Rasmus Andersson and William Lagesson... apparently Swedes hate him). Norris has had surgery on the same shoulder three times now. If one of them is a greater risk, it's the one with a chronic injury to the shoulder on his shooting side, and that's not Laine.

Yes, there are plenty of teams that would highly value what Jenner does. But none value him more than the Blue Jackets. That NJD trade is a non-starter for both sides - we don't want to sell him, and they wouldn't want to pay anywhere near what it would take to get him.

If you feel like you have to add that many pieces to one side of a trade to balance it… it’s a bad trade.

Yes!!! Thank you for seeing reason.
Why would we move him for smaller pieces when we need big time prospects.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_Habs_fan</b></div><div>KHL salaries are not as high as you think, the best KHL players make pennies compared to the best NHL players</div></div>
a quick google says top salaries in KHL are in the 1.5-2mil range. I dont know if its the draw some people think it is, its not the days of early KHL where oligarchs were throwing ridiculous sums of money at actual NHL stars.
Now I dont know how much of a draw playing in the motherland is, but if minimum NHL salaries are likely higher than avg in KHL so it probably makes more sense to try your luck in the NHL

Columbus quickly declines. We're not about to move quality assets for another mediocre $5.4M goalie with term, we already have one too many at home.

And the money. $3M for someone who would be on our bottom-pair, who has a $3M salary, is too rich for an organization that has operated on an internal cap in the past.
There's at least a dozen cheaper and better options for Columbus that don't involve any assets going out, even if its re-signing Jake Bean.

For a top-5/6 pick? Not a chance, mostly because I don't think Necas is the game-breaking star forward Columbus needs. He's a decent 1st liner and very good 2nd liner, which is...exactly what we already have in theory (JG, Laine, Johnson, Marchenko).
With so many other forwards to sift through, I could see a trade for Necas if it's something like Johnson + Texier for Necas + 3rd, or similar. A hockey trade where Columbus gets the better player now, and sends out a player that would be competing with Necas for that spot. Carolina saves some cap and gets someone back with that kind of potential, plus a cheap and decent roster player. Anything else, though, and Columbus is out. Even moving Johnson is extremely unlikely.

Penguins 2024-25 Season
We'd probably want something slightly nicer or a better fit than Puustinen back in that trade - maybe a mid pick - but otherwise that's a basis for Laine I'd strongly consider, given how much we need good defensive blueliners.

Brindley is <strong><em>so</em></strong> good, the fact he went in the 2nd round shocked me. Brindley suffers from Stankoven Syndrome (aka being short), which is the sole reason he wasn't a lottery pick. His size is not a detriment to his game at all, Brindley has an incredible motor and a great shot. Easily one of the most slept on prospects in the league.
I also love that fact that he has ties to Thunder Bay Ontario, my hometown. His dad is from here, so he's good in my books. Cannot wait to see Brindley and Fantilli tearing it up
