Marner and Dubas sitting in a tree
Pens would have to send someone to the Leafs to make the cap work for them.....a 20 man roster isn't practical. Yeah one year of Smith might do .
Marner rejects unless he has an extension in place.

Pretty reasonable lineup. Gott think the Leafs sign a cheaper RHD, and spend a little more on a UFA goalie.

Thread:
Marner UFA not stupid enough to trade for him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dekes</b></div><div>That’s hilarious. Well looks like Marner is going to the KHL then.
Draisaitl and Rantanen will set the price for Marner.
Drai is worth 2-4 mill more
Rantanen is worth 1.5-2.5 mill more
Both can play Center and both show up in playoffs.</div></div>
Clearly you don’t know how UFA works.
Marner currently makes $10.093M, he’ll be looking for a raise on a new contract, especially if he hits UFA. Next seasons cap is projected to be $87.7M and then the season after that is unknown right now but let’s say it increases another $2.5M on the low end. So that’s roughly $90.2M
Now back to to Marner’s current cap hit - the $10.093 was signed at a cap hit percentage of 13.38%. So even if he signed for the same contract when he hits UFA, then 13.38% of $90.2M is a little under $12.1M and that’s for not even a raise so there’s the base number. Now add in that it’s a UFA contract and players that are free agents always get more on the open market since there will be multiple teams bidding on him. & whether you love him or not, there will be a bunch of teams looking to sign Marner, I’d guess between 5-8 serious teams. So if a team wants to outbid the other teams, you’ve gotta offer something more than what they have to offer which is usually more money.
Now let’s look at a comparable - William Nylander. We can all agree that Marner is the better player (if you can’t then you don’t know a single thing about hockey). Nylander’s cap hit percentage is 13.77%. So now that’s the baseline - and 13.77% of $90.2M is just under $12.5M so that’s the REAL STARTING point for Marner. Add on that he’s a UFA and an extra $500K for all the reasons listed above and the fact that the cap should inflate over the term of the contract and now we’re at $13M easily..
So yes. As a UFA $13M+ is what Marner is looking at. He’ll likely be between $12-$12.5M if he re-signs with a team before he hits UFA but that will likely be with the extra year at the end.
There’s your lesson in hockey today. It’s not all about if YOU like the player. It’s a business first. & Marner is an asset that brings in money to a team and has the comparables to justify a $13M UFA contract whether you like it or not.

LA needs Danault, and LA has Portillo who has played just as well as Knight in the AHL (a lot cheaper to boot)

You know that you can change the season of your ACGM to 24-25 prior to making it? All of the contracts adjust properly when you do so. Capfriendly will automatically have Kopitar making $7 million aav.

It may have actually been Willy who was gone as 6.9m is more appealing on top of no trade protection till July 1 so it didnt limit the teams lul

I wouldn't buy Campbell out this summer, but I'm pretty sure the Oilers do.
For sure you could get DeBrusk just by (1) not signing Henrique and (2) trading Kulak for a pick. I'd rather DeBrusk than Henrique just due to age.

how to get out of cap hell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>A third line center named Monahan got traded for a 1st Rd pick.
I know, his contract is more than half less than Pageau's.</div></div>
And that was a deadline deal in a weak center market with multiple teams looking for centers. Maybe the Isles could have got a 1st for JGP at the TDL if they retained half.
We obviously disagree on JGP's trade value. And that's fine. The great thing about the NHL and this site is there's always other teams to move players to if the original deal doesn't work for both sides.

A little sensitive guy, I guess.
Dowd would have already got traded for a 3rd Rd'er but the Caps was hoping for a 1st or 2nd.
You get what you pay for, comparing Dowd to Glendening, Glendening is about half a million less value in talent.
Thompson is career Ahl Dman, who would clear thru waivers every time.
Good day sir.</div></div>
You have absolutely no clue on Thompson Glendening is doing exactly what they wanted out of him plus plus . Have an awesome weekend.

While it would be cool to have both of them, this just doesn’t solve anything for either team. With the emergence of Lapierre and Leonard on his way, the caps don’t have room for a middle 6 forward. A top line forward would be a better target. Anaheim has plenty of young D coming up and surely won’t want Jensen especially given how up and down his season has been.

Eh, maybe? If Anaheim wants to go hunting for a big name RW this off-season we need to clear out a roster spot, and a couple seasons of a serviceable RHD is probably a decent exchange.
Question is, is Jensen still serviceable?

I don’t think comparing the 80’s Oilers in a non Cap era to the current Leafs is very accurate or productive. I’m not here for a pissing contest, I’m trying to amuse myself (and hopefully others) by finding creative ways to “help” my beloved Caps win another Cup (in a friendly and constructive matter).

Stamkos may re-sign if he takes a very team friendly deal. If not, oh well. He also hasn't been primarily a C for awhile, so as I said, Tampa doesn't need to trade for Dowd at a ridiculous price. Tampa has Point, Cirelli, Paul, Glendening, as well as a couple of promising centers that are close to getting promoted. Dowd for a.1st is a terrible overpay for most teams, and especially Tampa.
