Smith straight up without retention is not getting more than a 3rd back and even that might be a stretch.

lol. Welcome to CapFriendly where people literally read nothing you have in a post.
Anyway, although not performing top notch in season, I feel Accari and Smith would help any playoff team.

Guentzel Extension
Woah! That is a big jump in pay for POJ. He's affordable at $800K-$950 next season.
Same with Puustinen...unless he pops off 15-20 goals between now and the end of the season.
That would be amazing if Yager if NHL ready next season. They can push Malkin down to 3C if that happens.
Pickering will not be NHL ready.
Blomqvist will possibly be NHL ready.

I see, thank you. I thought Yager needs to play now regardless if he's bad.
This way he can play with Crosby before Crosby retires. Malkin would have to 2C.

I think all the trades are doable, value-wise, without the picks. But, I can see why Guentzel might fetch a 4th/3rd in the Moore deal

The Pens are actually entering the playoff mix, but I guess if they're out? They can certainly get a better return for Jake.
The thing about Moore is that he's having a career year at 28 years old, so my money is him regressing back to what he is, which isn't bad, but IMO doesn't add a ton of value. LA would need to up the ante on the prospect part of this deal.

Pens should trade Nedeljkovic and not extend him. Blomqvist is ready to be a 2nd next season. Murashov (next Vasilevsky) will come in 2 years and will be ready to replace Jarry at the of his contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>futurebobmckenzie</b></div><div>Apologies, meant to use the word compete, not contend. I see the penguins being 1 and done in the playoffs or missing the playoffs for the next handful of years. I think the time is over. Crosby, Malkin, and Letang aren’t going anywhere though. They will retire as Penguins. Management will want to keep a decent team on the ice until that happens. I say trade Jake because his value won’t be higher and if he’s smart he’ll walk in the summer if we don’t trade him. Picking up the draft picks and Raty is a great way to look out for the future after the big 3 era and Kuzmenko is a replacement for the time being. He’s been underperforming this year so throwing him on a line with Sid should give him a spark. All in all, I think our goal should be keeping a wildcard team on the ice until the big 3 retire while also looking out for the future. Once the big 3 retire, blow it all up and go full rebuild mode, but it’s time to start collecting assets where we can.</div></div>
No - you're good. It actually looks like you did say competing. My brain just looks at contending and competing as basically synonyms. So maybe that's my fault haha.
I guess I just don't like the idea of purposefully aiming for the middle ground. If the Pens have a chance at the playoffs this year, I think you have to go for it and keep Guentzel. If you think the time of winning with the core is over, trade anyone and everyone you can.

just a look at depth for bottom of lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>futurebobmckenzie</b></div><div>agreed. Hajek maybe could bounce back in WBS hopefully, he’s just never really put it all together. I think that O’Connor could hopefully pot some playing full time on the 3rd line. Or we could drop one of Smith, Rust, or Rakell down, too. It’ll be interesting to see how the team shakes out this coming season.</div></div>
I'd be really interested to see how well one of the young guys could do in a top 6 role. Like Puustinen, Nylander, or maybe Poulin? Then you could drop Smith or Rust (I'd keep Rakell in the top 6). You could even try someone like Johnsson or Pitlick up there.

Libor Hajek is kinda buns, but Pysyk would be a small upgrade over Ruhwedel I think. Overall, there is a clear emphasis on defense with this team's depth. In theory, I think it could work, but in practice...I don't know. I'm a little worried about the lack of offense in the bottom 6, but if you get a healthy Karlsson then he alone can add significant production. I think this team is certainly better than whatever the hell last year's bottom 6 and defense was.

Honestly I like our bottom 6 better now. I know people are going to say it’s still a problem but I trust the growth of Drew O’Connor and Alex Nylander to end up blossoming this season. Perhaps Poulin ends up making the team as well. Rem Pitlick is also a nice piece to have in that bottom 6. Andreas Johnsson. They maybe a bunch of project type of players but they are low risk high reward add ons. I trust that Sully and the coaching staff will make our bottom 6 one of the best in the league. They have the legs, speed, defence, versatility, grit. It’ll be fun to see how they turn out. Overall depth is a bit better as well. Tomas Tatar would be amazing to have. But I don’t see it happening as the days go by and we still have the cap space to somehow clear for him.

Pretty much like someone poured gasoline over a car fire. CKSA is just refusing to listen to the IIHF's rulings and is just further alienating the KHL from the rest of the hockey world.

IIHF ruled that he had to report to the Flyers, CSKA basically said they don’t care and will ignore it. Fedotov is banned from playing for 4 months in the KHL. Whether the KHL or CSKA cares, which they don’t, is what remains to be seen basically lol. Aka he will play for them and will probably never come over to the Flyers

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeneralLandro</b></div><div>Strome for Boeser</div></div>
I wouldn’t, Boeser is younger and has higher upside, he costs a little more but he has less term if I recall
Canucks could trade these guys for a 1st and you would have some people saying too much and others saying not enough. The easiest one is Beauviller, he’s a rental, if he’s on a 50-55pt pace, at half retained he’s worth a 1st, Garland it depends when you’re trading for him, Canucks aren’t in a cap crunch any more so he has positive value and the closer you get to the cap jump the more he will cost because he is a reasonably priced player, he just doesn’t have a surplus value contract
Mikheyev, I think Patty wants to hold on with all his might, he is in an interesting spot, where he is a PK guy who is the fastest player in the league. However he is coming off of an injury, I think he would be worth a 2nd at this point, but if he returns to form he could be worth a good young player.

I think the most likely to be in order on the trade block there would be Garland, Beauvillier, Boeser, and Mikheyev. As for value for them, i could see them being moved either in a cap dump or for a guy in a different position that has a decent cap hit as well (i.e. Ryan Strome for Boeser or Garland maybe)
