what direction will a new habs management take?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Well just by looking at who they brought in, this would appear to be a full rebuild <em>a la</em> NY rangers did in 2016, I think it was. Gorton is much known for that as well as his drafting record from Boston. It would appear that's where the Habs are looking to improve especially when Molson specifically mentioned drafting top 10 3 times under MB and none are still with the team.
Also just to clarify something here, whoever the Habs get to be GM will essentially be the pawn for Gorton. They'll bring their expertise and have a role to play obviously but its abundantly clear in my mind, that ownership wants the best person for the job but because of the language requirement, it can only be in the form of an non french VP who won;'t speak to media often if at all and a french speaking GM who will speak to the media and fans regularly, working in unison. The GM doing all the day to day things still while communicating to the fanbase but the main direction the team takes will be from Gorton and that's the most important thing.
For all the Habs fans out there wanting a true rebuild and with the best person for the job being hired regardless of language cliche, this is quite literaally the closest we'll ever get to it. I couldn't be happier with the direction ownership took today.</div></div>
Well, this is your moment Marco. You've been pretty vocal about your disliking of Bergevin's tenure throughout the years, even when MB's star was shining at it's brightest level. I clearly remember reading one of your rant as recently as during the last Cup run, when everyone in the mountains of Uganda was praising Lord Bergevin for his brilliant moves and the bright future of the organization. These days seem so distant now... But anyway, kudos for staying true to your appreciation of the man and his body of work. It's always a pleasure to read your thoughtful comments.

Gorton is the GM of the team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div> So long as it doesn't interfere with the most qualified person getting the job to build a winning roster. </div></div>
That's exactly where the pitfall is. Statistically, it's just highly improbable that at the very moment you're looking to hire an hockey exec you'll end up hiring the most qualified individual if you make "must speak french" a sine qua none requirement. There's something like 15 million FR speakers in the countries where hockey is a thing, while there are 20x more EN speakers in Canada and the US alone, plus most Europeans speak EN while very few speak FR outside of France, Belgium and Switzerland.

French is my mother language and I couldn't agree more. Enough with the "GM and coach must speak french" thing, this is just to avoid a media crisis and brings zero value to the process of icing a team that wins championships in the modern NHL.

Interesting exercice, but boy this is depressive... It's basically the exact same team, year after year. Not good enough to win it all, not bad enough to win the lottery. Where's the fun?

Where are the facts to back up this statement? For all I know, TB is paying less money for its star players than Canadian teams do, and it has nothing to do with the negociation prowesses or the roster building skills of the GM.

Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean to pin you out. I guess my sarcasm was fueled by the fact that this team, which is a copy paste of the actual roster, is the epitome of what could be called "bottom heavy". At some point, MB will have to swap quantity for quality if he wants his team to be dominant.

I'm not so sure. Armia is a beast on the PK and in the corners, arguably the best on the team, while Ylonen and Caufield are more suited for an offensive role. If I'm MB, I make sure to lock Armia up.

Interesting interview with Waite in LaPresse. Clearly, MB fired him because he wanted to send a message to Price: get your sh** together.
Since he took over in 2012, MB's master plan (build around the starting goalie) has failed to show any kind of progress, and he knows he's likely gone if it fails again this year.

Why are you making it sound like PLD to the Habs is 100% not happening? Apparently MB loves him, it's very likely there will be trade discussions with CBJ.
