If we're going to single out individuals to blame for last night, Carrier would be on my list ahead of Lauzon.
The third pairing has been NSH's achilles heel for years. Lauzon is an actual 3rd pair defenceman. He's not anything more than that (and Poile paid too much for him), but he's a big improvement over all the Irwins, Bennings, and Jackmans we've suffered through.

Maybe chychrun and Josi could pair up and chychrun long term replaces josi but outside of that? We have too much tied up in LHD at the moment and it isnt a place in dire need of an upgrade like other areas of the team.
Lauzon wont be traded either. Brings too much that management/coach likes in grit/hits especially to be traded out for a guy that doesnt hit at all.</div></div>
Yeah, without McDonagh in NSH, it's more realistic for the Preds. It's hard to imagine him willing to be traded there though. Then when you think about how willing would OTT be to trade Chychrun for a more expensive, much older replacement, not to mention how do they make room for McDonagh's cap hit without a lot of other moves - I think it's too unrealistic for the Sens now.
Maybe the Devils would be interested in Chychrun? Their left side isn't the strongest.

If NSH were to add Chychrun and re-sign Carrier, they'd have too many defensemen.
McDonagh-Josi
Chychrun-Carrier
Lauzon-Fabbro
DelGaizo-Schenn
That's just the ones they'd have to expose to waivers. Stastney absolutely deserves a roster spot over a couple of those guys, but he'd be stuck in the AHL again, because he's still exempt. Plus Molendyk could be in the mix too. Brunette wanted to keep him in NSH instead of sending him back to junior last fall.
Acquiring Chychrun doesn't really address any huge needs for NSH, and the assets it would take to get him could be better spent elsewhere (like improving the middle six). NSH re-signing him beyond his current contract would be hard to justify too, with multiple LDs with term who aren't going anywhere and NHL ready young ones who'll need roster spots.
Despite <a href="/users/Ennis" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Ennis</a> being a confirmed Lauzon hater who'd pay you to take him, Trotz and Brunette love the guy. He's not getting moved anytime soon.

I don't get why so many OTT proposals involve sending Chychrun to NSH, but the Preds are deeper with LDs than they are at any other position. He's not a fit for them.

Oh, for sure, I get that. I wouldn't get mad about a Barron for Glass trade, I'd just rather use a pick and/or prospect to get Barron instead.
I'm not super optimistic that Glass ever puts it together, but there is talent there, and he's still young enough that his fate isn't set in stone yet. Even NSH's best players took a long time to click with Brunette's system. I don't want to write off Glass (or Tomasino or Pärssinen, for that matter), because it might be take them longer to figure it out.

I wouldn't be opposed to NSH taking a flyer on Barron, but not for any of those three forwards. Other Preds fans might be more willing to give Glass away for whatever return, but I'd like to hold off on that decision for now.

2024 NSH
Not a fan of the Gustafsson signing. NSH has enough LDs already (it's Lauzon's natural side, Del Gaizo isn't waivers exempt anymore, Stastney is NHL ready). Plus, it's too much money for him anyway. Give Carrier that money instead.

BIG off season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JZ_DAL</b></div><div>only way OTT can take on Saros is if Norris or Korpisalo are gone, definitely not taking him unless 1 of the goalies are gone aswell, I had Laughton & FLA 1st for Chychrun, I would give BOS & FLA 1st, Korpisalo & Jarventie for Saros</div></div>
Meh, I don't love it for NSH. I might be more open to it if NSH had a buy out slot available, if Korpisalo can't be fixed.
I really don't think OTT is NSH's best trade partner, when it comes to Saros. The Sens' prospect pool doesn't have much to offer NSH, and any players OTT would be willing to move don't do much for the Preds either. OTT's own 1st in 2024 is really the only asset they have that might entice Trotz to move Saros, before next season's deadline (assuming NSH isn't in a playoff position and/or Askarov has shown he's ready to be an NHL starter).
I think NSH could get a return that works better for them from other teams, like NJ, LA or CAR.

No thanks on Norris. He hasn't proven he's worth that contract when he's healthy, and he can't stay healthy.
A not great #3 goalie isn't close to enough to take on four years of Korpisalo.
NSH counters with OTT and BOS' 2024 1sts for Saros.

BIG off season
No one is going to take on Norris' contract, until he proves he can stay healthy and productive for at least a full season - it's a huge risk, not an asset.
Korpisalo is a multi-year cap dump.
Søgaard isn't good either. He doesn't add any value.
The two actual assets here don't amount to enough for Saros - even without the bad contracts dragging down the value here.

I think adding a 1st and the better player in the Sissons-Liljegren part is too substantial already.
Marner isn't the player or at the position I'd target if I was going all in for one year, and that's not a move that makes sense for NSH right now. There's no chance of being able to re-sign him either without decimating the roster, if they get Norris too.
Going with a rookie with 3 games experience and Brossoit in that scenario probably has too much potential to go badly as well.

Abrusseze is a solid AHler, but I don't see the NHL upside with him, and he'd have less of a chance to move up with NSH than he does with TOR.
Less than no interest in Kämpf, though. NSH has a lot of center depth (O'Reilly, Novak, Glass, Sissons, McCarron, Jankowski, Pärssinen, Afansyev). There's no room for Kämpf, and with almost $12M in dead cap space next season, NSH really doesn't need his contract on the books.

The 1st from NJ is a start, but the rest of the proposal doesn't make sense for NSH. They shouldn't be giving up their 1st in a Saros deal, and they don't have any need of Bahl or Schmid.
