(FLA / DET) - Vanek for McIlrath
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>31 teams had a change at Vanek at 2m a year (Canucks signing), so obviously their wasn't any takers. Obviously "his value" isn't that high, despite his point total.</div></div>
This may be more because of need than anything else. Think of all the teams that need a middle six winger. None of them have the cap space to bring him in and fill out a roster. When the trade deadline rolls around, more cap space will be open, injuries may occur, etc. This would give the Canucks a much better opportunity to move him to a team wanting someone to help their second or third line and power play.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>ain't it kind of dumb to talk about vanek and his draft rating in 2003. if columbus had really wanted him they could have signed for 2m, just like the nucks. if the nucks are rebuilding, why give up first rounder top 5 for duchene.</div></div>
Vanes was basically taken to be flipped with 1 year and he's cheap too at 2 million, Columbus would take this because vanek puts up good offense and they need a right handed defenseman. They would give this deal up to Colorado even if they're rebuilfding because this end result makes them a playoff team. Plus they gain a bunch of draft picks in this upcoming deep 2018 draft

Bye Bye Duchene. Hello Playoffs
Wait why is Vegas giving up their 3 first rounders for a 3rd and a 2 1st rounders? Mironov is a solid prospect, but nothing special esp. considering that Reinhart is a former high first round pick, is there much difference between the two?

dont the Pens want maata off their books with that contract? it goes from 4 mill for 5 more seasons, to a 3C they need at 4.5 mil for 1 season. plus a prospect and a pick.

duchene to NJ
I'm a Devils fan and I would take this in a heartbeat, but no way Joe Sakic does this deal. The Avs acquire a good prospect in McLeod, a mediocre prospect in Bastian, and Lovejoy is the worst defenseman on the team in ny opinion. And then only a second and third. Devils would get elite forward with duchene, decent defense prospect with meloche, and a third in return. This would be unfair to the Avs and this is coming from a Devils fan

Is this roster good enough for a Wildcard spot???
Although I can't imagine that Petry would waive his NMC for AZ, it's actually an interesting proposal. The contract is a little pricey for the Coyotes, but Petry's been steady and could be a good fit for them.
The Coyotes simply have too many ? right now to really know whether they can be a bubble team. A lot of young players with a lot of upside, but most of them haven't proved much at the NHL level yet. And we haven't seen Tocchet's system yet either.
Out of curiosity, why do you have Dvorak as a winger? Did you see his faceoffs last year? 471 / 1006 was second only to Hanzal. He's definitely a center.
Martinook played a good bit of center last year and he could do it again as an injury fill-in if needed. (His faceoff rate wasn't atrocious either at 460 / 1037).
That contract is too low for Duclair.
Very doubtful Latta makes the club out of camp. Him and Etem maybe get some call-up games if they perform well in Tucson. I'd say more likely Fischer makes the club.

Sorry Tomcas, but I do agree with Laynious that Toronto would definitely make that move. I also however agree with Robb, that this doesn't address Montreal's needs in anyway! (but should add. . . . "WHO CARES")!

Faulk/JVR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Laynious</b></div><div>
Its not a bad trade. Every trade has a risk. Yes JVR is on his final year and could bolt at the end of the year. So add in an extension or make the other piece conditional on him signing an extension.
There are ways around it to protect both sides. JVR would instantly be the Canes top LW.</div></div>
You're right, it isn't a bad trade. It's a terrible trade. And no, JVR would not be the Canes top LW, that would be Skinner.

I wouldn't call it bad. Slavin is more then capable of picking up the Faulk slack. TOR needs to add something but I don't think its a bad trade. If you are going to try and sign him anyway, why not trade from a position of strength? Then sign him (JVR) when the season is over.</div></div>
It is a bad trade. Young number one defensman on a cheap contract for an above average left winger who could possibly leave after the season.

Trading Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>grandview17</b></div><div>Can someone tell me what the big deal is about Doughty??, ok yes he's a good defenseman, but have you really watched him play? he basically turtled last year when the kid from Calgary wanted to kill him, he's averaging 43pts (not 60+) like Karlsson a season and he makes 7mil, which he will demand 10mil+ in 2 yrs. IMO he is waaaay overrated. Yes he's only 27, and a right hand shot but c'mon trading two 60+ point forwards a 50point defenseman oodles of 1st rounder's for Doughty?, no chance in hell I make this deal if im Toronto, If I was LA and Lou called me to offer this, id accept the deal before hitting the ground from falling off my chair.
and BTW, why are there so many trade proposals on this site that include the Leafs 1st round picks? leave those picks alone, that's what got the Leafs in trouble all these yrs. is by trading away 1st rounder's, they are finally drafting well, leave the picks alone.</div></div>
Sorry that you dont realize how good of a player doughty is. Karlsson plays on a run and gun team, doughty doesnt
