Canes bring the band back mostly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>spockrock</b></div><div>That’s likely where they see him. Paying him much over $8M on a long term deal would be the opposite of what they’ve been doing. Maybe they offer him the Svechnikov deal, 8 X 7.75M, maybe not. Again, I don’t see them going much over $8M for him, if even that much.
There’s zero chance they’d be neglecting the blueline like that.</div></div>
I doubt it's what they do either, but then again as I said in the description this is more just a jumping off point for discussing the Canes offseason fans. This certainly doesn't match what I would do if I were GM.
However, I stand by most of the contract values I gave. If we're bringing back Guentzel or Necas that is simply what they're going to get paid (or more)

Let Noesen walk.</div></div>
If the Canes aren't willing to go over even 8M for Guentzel then he will be gone so fast. He would get over 9M on the open-market with ease

Agreed, I originally had him getting 2.4 but had to bump him down a little to fit under the cap. That's the most unrealistic part of this for sure

I have a KK jersey and even then... you're not exactly wrong

Carolina Playoff Lineup
Replace TDA with Chatfield and Raanta with Kochetkov, those two are absolutely not getting benched. As for how they fit Kuzy into the lineup, I think it's more likely they bump KK to the wing and Fast out of the lineup.

Eh, if he's truly irredeemably bad then the buyout is only roughly 1M for the next 2 years. Don't think it would be the end of the world, and with the center market looking as it is I understand the desire to take a gamble rather than overpay for another option.

I think he's cooked but well see. I don't like this for the Canes even with only losing a 3rd (just for retention pretty much) bc youre taking on your cap savings from Bunting with Kuz now for the next 2 years...</div></div>
He can be bought out for a pretty low number. If he's truly terrible you've basically just wasted a 3rd round pick and about ~1M in cap space for the next 2 years.

Get to learn the new prospects
Coming from a Canes fan, I would be most excited about Pono. Lucius and Koivunen have upside, but I think both of their NHL ceilings will be really hampered by poor skating unless they can get it together in that department. Pono is a more complete player, has an underrated shot, and can get started contributing right away in Pittsburgh. Hope y'all take care of him!

I think both sides can potentially come away happy from this, but Carolina definitely got the better end. Getting Guentzel without giving up any unconditional 1sts or any of their top 5 prospects is insane.

Putting those 3 on waivers clears just over 3M in cap space. Gives the Canes flexibility for the deadline

Morrow + a 1st + a 2nd is a completely reasonable package. Canes fans ought to be on board

Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like this isn't enough for Pittsburgh, and not exactly what they'd want either. Why would they want an older roster playing in Bunting? I think Carolina would happily replace him with a nice prospect, or with another pick if that's the direction

I'm not sure the Coyotes would do it, but I'm intrigued
