Description
It's been proven time and time again that this roster simply can't compete. It's time to admit defeat and start the rebuild. The rebuild doesn't have to be long but still veterans need to be moved and young players need to be given a chance to play and freely make mistakes.

A big problem with the Blues is outside of their top line (which is great), they don't have another high danger scoring line. The remaining 9 players in the forward group are all complementary players, not play drivers, and hence struggle to generate much by themselves. That's on army. While all bottom 9 players would probably be fine and in most cases even look good next to more skilled players, they won't get that here.

Defensively, the Blues need to find a way to move 2 of Krug, Leddy, and Faulk. They can't all be in the same defense together. I think Leddy is actually fine as long as he's not in a top pair, shut down role. Both Krug and Faulk need more of a defensive partner and are awful together. I'd like to move both and open those spots for the younger dmen.

Notes on the roster below:

The top line puts a lot of faith in Snuggerud to make the jump to the NHL and be an impact player.
The 2nd line would be one of, if not the, fastest lines in the league and would just be a fun line to watch.
The 3rd line is the veteran line. They would ideally be put in more of a shut down role.
The 4th line remains an identity line.

The top pair defense is something I've always liked. Every time Perunovich and Parayko are together they look great. Parayko needs to play with an offensive minded dman and Perunovich is just that. Another thought I had is signing Forsling to a 6x6 deal as a UFA but the Blues might be done giving long term contracts to dmen for a bit.
The 2nd pair defense could take some defensive responsibility and be solid offensively.
The 3rd pair defense is more of a defensive unit. Having Holl isn't ideal but you could buy him out in the next offseason if needed. Holl, Tucker, and Rosen could all rotate as the 6th dman.

Trades
1.
STL
  1. Morrow, Scott [Reserve List]
  2. Necas, Martin [RFA Rights]
  3. Rees, Jamieson [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Deal made at previous TDL. I think Buch would be an amazing fit on Carolina and would be one of the few players they would move Necas for. Necas has never fully been trusted in Carolina and could get a fresh start with the Blues.

Morrow fills the dman prospect the Blues need. I seriously wonder if he will even sign in Carolina, the lack of an AHL team seriously hurts those odds and he's one year away from being able to sign wherever he wants. We'll see what happens but that's just my feeling.

I've always been a fan of Rees. If he played more than 4th line minutes in the AHL he could be a nice bottom 6 piece in the NHL some day.
2.
STL
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (FLA)
  2. 2024 5th round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Deal made at previous TDL. Both would be a great fit for an already scary Florida team.
3.
STL
  1. 2026 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Either at the TDL or in the offseason. Hayes would be a good fit for a more slow paced team. The Blues are looking to get faster and Hayes just can't keep up with the younger players. I think Hayes 50% retained could get a 2nd from some team.
BOS
  1. Hayes, Kevin ($1,785,714 retained)
4.
STL
  1. 2024 5th round pick (DAL)
  2. 2025 5th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Deal made at previous TDL. Brings some solid depth and speed to Dallas for cheap. Could be any contender.
5.
STL
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (DET)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Deal made in the offseason if Detroit loses Ghost.
DET
  1. Krug, Torey ($3,250,000 retained)
6.
STL
  1. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Deal made in the offseason. It's pretty hard to tell the value of Faulk. At 5 million that would be a great price and odds are he would fetch more than this.
TOR
  1. Faulk, Justin ($1,500,000 retained)

Doubt much of this can happen, but I would be for it. Some Canes fans about to crucify you btw.

Even in dumping Holl and the retention, Detroit likely still has no interest in Krug.

Plenty of stuff I'd be happy with, though some of the other teams might not agree. squinty smile

HOWEVER, absolute hell no the DET trade. Not retaining half on Krug for meh, let alone also taking Holl back. No no no.

Also, I'm pretty confident Faulk's value to TOR will be higher now than it will after the TDL. And considering he's seemingly not 100% fit, I cannot see anyone giving a 24 1st for him, even with decent retention (though if anyone would, it's them).

I think Yzerman will go after Michigan boy Matt Roy in UFA.

He'll want a good RD to pair with young Edvinsson next season.

Wings say no to Krug. No space on that side and he is your bad contract to keep
