Keeping Jack in the Atlantic is pricey
Your joking right ? Lol hahaha, Even caufield, one on one or suzuki one on one for Eichel Bergevin ain't gonna do it. And i am not talking about talent wise, stats and other, i am talking about the player. Suzuki is a incredibile person and he is our futur Captain, and Caufield he is the next face of the franchise, he is now the fan favorite, he ain't going no where. Even if Eichel is good, you just don't trade player who means and are gonna means a lot to the franchise and the futur

I imagine the lowest he'll take is $5M for a couple years. The issue is he's probably asking for $7M.

Agreed. It's just a hard sell, since he's never really had a break out year. And people forget how important he was for the lightning when they made it to the eastern conference finals in 2016.

Laine to Montreal
I'll accept that. If this type of deal does come to fruition, I would expect it to be for Drouin, Danault and Juulsen for Laine (and we'd take Perrault too if need be)

Brayden Point
I just don’t understand why if he wanted Aho... he didn’t go higher... several “experts” have said today that if he would have went to 9.5 million Carolina would have seriously considered not matching... Aho already asked for 9.5 and Carolina countered with 7.5... basically they helped get to the middle ground by offering the offer sheet...

Match and Trade Aho
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Yes and for very good reason. However the canes can offer a trade rather than taking the compensation if Montreal agreed. This trade unfortunately is much richer than the compensation.</div></div>
That was my point. Aho obviously would rather play for MTL than CAR so a trade makes sense. The offer sheet compensation is just not enough to make it worth losing him.

Match and Trade Aho
because the canes can't trade him for a year if they match
the only trade i see between MTL and CAR now if it happen. is MTL overpaying for a AHL guy for example for the canes to not match the offersheet

Yes Dudley asked Bergevin to give Aho a 21m$ bonus in the 1st year of the contract... your theory makes 0 sense

They (MTL) still have 11 million to play with. They (Canes) are trying to find the 21 million to pay Aho. Tom is one cheap owner who doesn't like to give bonuses.

We got Ryan Suzuki down at 28, we had what many insiders think was the best draft of the 31 teams. We have guys like Necas, Bean, Kuokkanen, Julian Gautheir, Jack Drury, Kotchkov was a stud for Russia at the IIHF's, Eetu Luostarainen was a stud for Finland... ours is defo up there. Don't get me wrong, MTL's is up there too, but I think ours is better, which may have a little bias.

If the Offer Sheet Is Not Matched
yes they can make a trade, CAR can choose not to match and then MTL trade say...drouin and suzuki to CAr for like MTLs 3rd....thus making it basically Drouin, Suzuki MTL 1st and 2nd in 2020 for Aho....(players used in the example are used only as example, no one knows what would go back to CAR in such trade scenario)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>No... you don't know this franchise. The canes made enough money in selling season tickets for next year to match that ALONE. You really need to do your research. It's not been matched yet because they want to stop Montreal from spending, they have to leave 300k in cap space because, even with the inflated cap ceiling, they'd be over if they let Aho go, which would result in a bigger penalty. They are going to match this, Waddell has said that in his press conference yesterday (NHLCanes on twitter if you wish to view it). As for the canes owner.... you seem to forget this guy is a MULTI MILLIONAIRE. 21 million for the guy he said wants to keep no matter the cost, is nothing. You really need to do more of your own research before you go commenting on things like this, because you still seem to view this as the team it was under Karmanos, which it isn't.</div></div>
They increased season ticket sales by 4m during the playoff run. Cool your jets.
I fully expect them to match. They can’t afford not to.

I follow more than 1 team. Canes are my 2nd team. You should probably do some reading about him and open your eyes how things have been done since he took over. Just saying.
BTW how much did he lose on the AAF investment? I know, i know, two different things right? Except his bank account is only one thing to him, or anyone for that matter. It affects his decision making on how much he wants to invest of his own capital into the franchise. It’s public knowledge he did not want to go over 6m per on Aho. I think they match because they have no choice really. They don’t they lose the goodwill generated from the playoff run. But he’s not going to be happy about it. Their internal payroll cap is a lot lower than the cap ceiling.

As i said, if they match, they are done spending. No other UFAs.

Have you seem the seen the offer sheet details? 20m in signing bonuses first 2 years. For a team that usually loses $ and has a limited budget this is a problem.
