Trade deadline
While the jackets have too many forwards, the picks here don't entice them to move a guy they have already extended and can play all over the lineup. Roslovic or Bemstrom are more in line with the guys they should be looking to move.

More than he is worth. He has become a key part of the locker room that they don't really want to part with as they work through the rebuild. Plus given his contract and the demand for retention, Jackets are going to want way more than he is actually worth.

Because Columbus needs an $11M winger, that is a UFA, has already declined an offer from Columbus, and fills no position of need for us while costing significant assets.

This doesn't make sense for either team. Edmonton giving up a lot for a possible upgrade in net and an often injured offensive defenseman. Jackets get cap dumps, prospects that aren't going to crack the top 5 or top 10 of the organization and a single first round pick for a goalie that can't play in the NHL. Nothing here helps either side.

Would either team do this
Jackets just named him as an alternate captain (deserving or not) and aren't trading for another winger that can fill the press box after already putting 3 on waivers this year.

You can take out Jiricek or Johnson and you still aren't remotely close. One of the worst trade offers I have seen on this site if it is being serious.

Jackets have no interest in Kadri for that contract term. There is a different center on your team we would be interested in though.

There is no way you really think that the Jackets are giving up a first round pick to get another RD that won't see the ice.

Yanni Gourde isn't the kind of center you trade Laine for. Laine has massively underperformed and Gourde immediately makes us better, but he is not the kind of center that puts us over the top. The risk of Laine returning to form for a #2/#3C is not worth it, especially when we are already out of the playoffs this year. Wait it out and see what happens with Laine.

Whats the cost for Kent
I don't see any scenario in which he is traded for futures. Jackets have too many pieces as is (not saying they are all high end pieces) and if they make a move it would be to bring in a star in my opinion. Johnson should only be moved as a package for a true #1C. That said, the proposal of a top 10 pick plus two good prospects isn't terrible, it just doesn't get Columbus any closer to fixing their center issue unless these pieces are flipped as part of a bigger deal.

Jackets aren't going to move Voronkov who was just considering returning to Russia because he was homesick. Even without him in the trade, there is no incentive for the jackets to do this deal.

I think this team needs a stabilizer in order to be playing somewhat meaningful games in March and April. They look overwhelmed often and need a high end veteran in the middle of the ice. Assuming that Lindholm will sign an extension, I think Jarmo needs to make a move like this in order to prevent the season being over in December.

Jackets just gave Gudbranson the alternate captaincy. Although this move would make long term sense to open up that spot and save money, they aren't moving him a month after saying he is a key part of the leadership of this team. Also Bertuzzi fills no need to push columbus to make this move.

Completely agree with this. I know the organization hates to lose another player for less than they are worth by making a move now, but there is no way to develop chemistry or actually evaluate these fringe guys when they are constantly in and out of the lineup.

Boqvist on his own is worth a second. Adding a $3M AHL player is going to require significant additional compensation for an organization that has never taken on those kinds of contracts.

Garly
It is an interesting match for both teams. Jackets have 3 potential D-men available (Peeke, Bean and Boqvist) that all are extremely hard to value in my opinion. Peeke seems to be attracting a ton of attention as a shot blocking RD, but he makes a ton of mistakes and has not proven he can handle any real defensive responsibility. I do think if he had a stable LD paired with him and was deployed in a second or third line role he would be significantly better. He has made it clear he can't play against top lines, yet we kept deploying him there. Bean and Boqvist are similar that they both have decent upside as high draft picks that are still younger defensemen and just haven't stayed healthy. There is no telling how either will develop or if they are the next Ryan Murray who will always be hurt.
The issue I see for the Jackets is locking in Garland at $5M for the next 3 years. I am not sure that is something that the Jackets want to do with all of the young guys we have to sign. This trade would leave us with $18M next year to sign Johnson, Marchenko, Tex, Sillinger, Chinakov and a couple depth guys. Not to mention potential buyouts of Gudbranson and Elvis based on this season.
I think the trade makes a ton of sense for both sides, but will be interesting to see how it comes together. I think this proposal is pretty close to what Columbus would be looking for. Jackets would be looking for an AHL player with upside or a pick along with Garland while moving out 2 guys that would require waivers to go to the AHL and likely do not have a future in Columbus.

Defense looking very shaky
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>(He was bad before that too).
Also, playing a lot isn't a scouting report. There isn't a single argument in here beyond toi as to why he'd improve</div></div>
Playing with AHL defensemen, in a new system that no player understood, being implemented by a new head coach that was way over his head is definitely a reason that he would improve. Also him, boqvist and bean all were forced to play on the wrong side for parts of the year due to injury. Boqvist and Peeke failed miserably at the experiment, which didn't help his numbers. You don't want him as your first pairing guy, but he should be a solid 3rd pairing guy that could fill in on the second if needed.
