Toronto Maple Leafs - Realistic Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>You have to explain why Muzzin leaves him "hometown" for Calgary. I assume because you want cap space. Another ridiculous 20 man roster.</div></div>
Muzzin has been linked to calgary in the past, plays the type of game that sutter likes, and muzzin liked playing with sutter (and would still want to be on a competing team, which calgary still is).

Toronto Maple Leafs - Realistic Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mmccRed198913</b></div><div>Lol at realistic. 2023 first and Sandin then maybe. Calgary just lost Gaudreau not Hannifan</div></div>
The flames get picks/prospects to acquire more pieces and fill out the defense so they don't have to rely on Zadorov to play top-4 minutes. Calgary is a defense-first team, and the main focus for them is to make sure the defense is set before solving their holes on offense.

Toronto Maple Leafs - Realistic Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gmonwy</b></div><div>FLAMES DONT NEED MUZZIN</div></div>
Right now, the flames have hanifin, andersson, tanev, and zadorov under contract from last year's defence. They've been linked to muzzin, they need to add on defence, and contract talks with mangiapane have reportedly stalled. This move works for both teams. They get picks/prospects to acquire more pieces, and fill out the defence so they don't have to rely on zadorov to play top-4 minutes.

leafs cuz they got eliminated
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Johnsson isn't worth more than Tierney. Tierney is a C, and a fantastic PK guy. I wouldn't give even one 2nd for Johnsson given the depth of young LW Ottawa has. It's just unnecessary when they have Formenton, Balcers, Abramov who could all walk on to the 3rd line LW spot out of camp. That isn't the level of player Ottawa should target</div></div>
good point, that makes sense. In my opinon, johnsson is worth more because he's under contract, can play both wings, can play up and down the lineup (has played really well with matthews, tavares, and spezza), can kill penalties really well, can be a net front presence on the powerplay, and has really good possession numbers. I would go after tierny as a RFA if they had problems during contract negotiations.
They'd also get another veteran PK guy, and a speedy winger that the young guys can learn from, or they can flip for a pick. Cogliano is always healthy too, had the longest iron man streak until a one game absence this year.

remove a second round if it's that bad haha, they need depth and they're getting it in this deal, and players with term too. Johnnson is good when given more minutes, but he has no time on the team. Also, both 2nds are late 2nds since they're coming from cbj and nyi.

top dman in klingberg, getting rid of a 10 million dollar contract in marner, getting a speedy 3rd liner, who you can put under contract, getting grit and speed and better penalty killers which the leafs need, getting better defensive depth, what else would you want? There aren't many teams that are gonna take his contract and have pieces to spare. If you think it's that bad, then maybe get rid of the first.

Sending Clarkson packing (finally)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>Regarding Clarkson's contract with the Leafs. On I believe TSN, Dave Poulin one of the Leafs execs at the time gave the justification for signing Clarkson. He said they wanted Clarkson for his "leadership" and thinking he would be be a good 3rd line winger. Same with the trade for Bolland. Poulin never suggested he (they) were wrong in their thinking. Guess that's why he's a talking head instead of NHL management exec. Can't believe that NHL execs still fumble the salary cap regularly.</i></div></div>

Trading Jaro
NO NOT NIEMI!!!!! he gets injured too, he has worse stats, and his contracts is terrrrrrible, hes older, and he's one of the 2 that were part of the worse goalie tandem in the nhl. Don't get him! get a good 1b stuck in a goalie tandem where he's the stuck backup, like antii raanta. he has the king in front of him, he's in his prime, and he's put up similar stats to niemi but he only costs 800k. I'd choose him over niemi any day.

Trading Clarkson & signing Trouba
Don't see them getting trouba, because they need to find ways to get out of the cap hell they're in, and clarkson won't get traded for that. 2 middle players making 1.8 million <strong>combined</strong> in exchange for one oft-injured player who never scored more then 17 goals in a year except for one crazy year where everything (well almost) came up new jersey? not happening, and you can't buy him out either, and even retaining 50 percent of his salary won't get this deal to work either. The only way Clarkson gets trade is if they find a team with 2-3 BAAAAAAAD short term contracts (im thinking maybe philly or NYR) and they take all of those for clarkson and 2 AHL regulars and maybe a low, 4-7th round draft pick. and maybe then they can get trouba. But even then that's not the solution. They got a stellar defenseman in jones. They need scorers. Only 4 players on the team got more then 20 goals, and only 6 over 40 points. Try to get a player who had a down year in exchange for foligno. i say nash for foligno and a 3rd rounder. hes more proven, did great in columbus and you exchange 1 bad contract for another, but this time you might get more for it.

Clarkson is fine, his contract isn't. They can't buy him out because of the fact that most of his money comes from signing bonuses, so it would barely affect the annual salary he receives, and so it wouldn't change the cap at all, so they'd be pretty much be paying 5.25 mill for a guy to play or 5 mill for him not to. Bad trade by Jarmo Kelky, good trade for Dave nonis and the Leafs (tho nonis sucks for giving him this garbage god-awful contract in the first place)

Pretty good, just that cowen is expected to be bought out so that would free up some cap space. And most probably lupul will be in robidas-land so hes probably gonna be on the LTIR
