Lindholm as a UFA target
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>V1NnY2</b></div><div>Of course there would be some sort of NTC or NMC involved in such a deal. But it’s easy to say he won’t sign that and not say what else he would sign… curious to see your prediction with the year he just had..</div></div>
I said many times last year that Conroy should have been fired on the spot for offering Lindholm close to $70m on the extension. Lindholm is a nice player. Maybe at his peak a low end 1C. He was never elite and his game is extremely physical so any age decline- like we might be seeing right now- and he will collapse. Much like most forwards with that type of game. He's been an average 3C this season, but someone will give him term if he wants it. Guessing at minimum he can get five years and $25m. But I stand by if he signed a short term deal, he's taking a prohibitive NTC or full NMC that will potentially eliminate most trade options.

Lindholm isn't going to sign that. And I'll bet if he ever did a short-term contract he would make a full no movement clause to control any movement anyway so any notions of flipping him for a great return would end up like Tarasenko.

Lee would've been the highest in that category for the Devils btw.
Im not saying Lee is a dog but no reason for the isles to ever do this</div></div>
Cap value isn't derived from expected goals. If it were, the Penguins would have made the playoffs the last two years. Moreover comparing players on two different teams isn't of much value.

DAL, EDM, TOR would all make better offers than this. Plenty of other competitive teams would too. Pesce is good enough to be a 2RD on most any playoff team.

Only Carolina can offer an eight year contract. I can't imagine any team offering Guentzel that contract. That's almost a guaranteed awful contract in the long term.

And you grossly underestimate his value. At worst he's still a top 10 center in the league this year. Kane still has some elite offensive aptitude, but a one dimensional winger- who also carries major health risks with his hip surgery- would be viewed as worth WAY less to 32/32 NHL orgs.

Biggest thing is that both major parts of this trade have NTC. Both Crosby and Marner refuse to waive. The deal is dead.</div></div>
Doubt Dubas can trade any of the core four without ownership approval and losing Crosby is a massive financial loss to FSG. Unless Crosby were adamant about wanting to leave AND ownership were willing to lose millions in profit, they aren't trading him. Much like WSH with Ovechkin. His goal scoring pursuit is a serious financial benefit to WSH and WSH is a large market.

No doubt it is 100% up to Crosby and 100% of the evidence suggests he will stay with PIT his entire career regardless of what happens. What fans ignore/forget is the business side of things and an all time great like Crosby is a massive financial benefit especially to a small market team like PIT. FSG wouldn't trade him for a fair value return on the ice unless they were trying to go out of their way for him. Because even a single season is such a great profit generator for them there's almost no return value on any trade that would make sense.

On the ice perhaps. Though even that is debatable given center is more valuable than winger. However reality is, Crosby is a massive money maker especially for a smaller market like Pittsburgh.

Your rant is rubbish, there is no negative long term effect here. Utah want a love at first sight team. They have a surplus of prospects. This deal may never happen but they will surround those prospects with proven pros and protection…Stamkos…not surprised if they go for Sid.</div></div>
The deal will never happen for many reasons. One of the most likely is that Utah has no interest is torpedoing their long term competitiveness by making brain dead short sighted deals.

Dubas Likely To Be Aggressive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>you don't know what that contract says, and there have been other coaches who got both.
Making up as you go is just too funny. Like every report on him is the same... don't want to pay him while not here.
If it was soooo easy that it just went away if he coached somewhere else, than they wouldn't give a rats ass. But they do, so there goes that theory.
It amazes me that you think the front office is looking at this right now and wouldn't move on. They know, the players know, the fan base knows....it's time to move on.
But them having to pay him is the only thing saving him right now. Otherwise, they would let him talk to other teams and get him out the door.</div></div>
You're wrong (again). NHL coaching contracts are designed to designate the role the coach has. So if he were fired he would still be with the team just in a different role. Unless he takes a different org. position in which case the contract is terminated.

It's painfully short-sighted. They're going to do fine their first year or two. It's going to be their sustainment that is potentially in jeopardy. And trading for a bunch of past the prime players is very likely to send them into a massive rebuild only a few years into existence.

You're wrong again. The contract is guaranteed if he doesn't breach the terms of the contract. Coaching another NHL team is a breach of terms that will void the contract. This is boiler plate for any NHL coaching contract.

Dubas Likely To Be Aggressive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>that's one way over simplification of the situation.
There are reports all around about Sully getting shipped out.
Dubas holds his rights. They need Sully to waive the contract out as they don't want to pay 5.5 mil for the next 3 years for a guy coaching another team.
If they could simply trade him and that contract he'd be gone.
I think it's pretty clear what is going on in PIT right now. The whole coaching staff is out the door.
They already cleared out WBS. They are going to not extend the assistant coaches. Guess who is next?
This in the media noise is just how they work out canceling that 3 year deal.
If he doesn't waive they threaten to keep him for the next 3 years. Which doesn't work for anyone because they are sure to make his life hell. They might even demote him back down to WBS if they can.
It's clear there are issues here. It's not that Dubas doesn't sound interested in letting him go. It's that he doesn't sound interested in paying him for the next 3 years.
When Sully agrees to waive that contract they will move him out. The question is will Sully agree to do that. The answer to that is probably more dependent on the future contract he will get. Some are saying up to 7mil per on a deal. That would be interesting as he might be willing to waive the contract for that. Unless he thinks the penguins will let him go anyway and then he'll collect 5.5 on top of that 7 mil.
It's just a matter of showing him that isn't going to happen and he has to waive.</div></div>
Sullivan can't be paid his extension contract AND another coaching contract. Accepting another contract voids the extension. So there is no restriction on Dubas terminating him and still paying Sullivan to coach another team.
