Berggren is probably going to be put on waivers next year. He could be the next Tolvanen for sure

Next Year
I believe Drury can get the Rangers under the cap by trading Goodrow on 50% retained salary. If that doesnt work, there will be a bidding war for Trouba between Buffalo and Detroit. Lets see how much the cap increases for next year

Opening Night in Detroit
I have been disappointed in Berggren so far, but I wouldnt send him down for Danielson to get his 9 games. I'm okay with sending down Berggren if Soderblom makes the team, not for a veteran or a juniorplayer

Players that I would like to see in Pittsburgh
Veleno got good speed and can hit people, but he lack defensive awarness and cant win faceoffs. He is 23 and maybe PIT can turn him around, but they need to identify what type of player he is. Problem with Veleno in Detroit is that he havent decided himself what type of player he want to be.

Detroit should sign Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GhostGM92</b></div><div>I don't see Lucas Raymond or Jonatan Berggren being on the first powerplay as is but especially if they sign Kane. I would keep Rasmussen with Copp and Perron as that was a really good line for them. Rasmussen is better than both based on last season. You need some balance to your lines too. I don't think they sign Kane and they probably keep Raymond on the first line. Jonatan Berggren will probably start in Grand Rapids. He's not good enough to make the top six and he's not a bottom six style of player. And he's on a two way contract. Don't forget Jonatan Berggren and Lucas Raymond are in contract years too.</div></div>
The balance goes out the window if Detroit signs Kane. I tried to justify it by looking at Tampa last year. They played an all offence line 5on5 with Stamkos-Point-Kucherov. Maybe Detroit can do something similair because neither Kane or Debrincat backchecks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AlTintin1122</b></div><div>Kane isn’t interested in missing the playoffs</div></div>
Well, I dont think he want to be a 3rd-liner and play defence either. He is going to be the main man on the powerplay and a 1st-line player in Detroit. I dont think any other team who is fighting for a playoff spot can offer him that role. He is going to get paid and have a good year and if teams are interested at TDL, then Yzerman should let him leave. Its a win-win.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drambui</b></div><div>really depends if he cares about money or not.</div></div>
I think most do, but for me, its more about what role you offering Kane. If your club isnt a dumpster-fire, I think it could be done

Patrick Kane to Detroit
In my opinion, adding Kane will stunt Raymond and Berggren growth. I see Raymond as the playmaker on PP1 and playing with Larkin on the first line, that role will Kane have if he signs. Kane and Berggren are similair in the sense they are playmakers and doesnt add any defensive play. I think Detroit should add players that can complement Berggren and Raymond instead of blocking them. Its a contract-year for both of them so I understand why Yzerman would do though

3 WAY
I dont like trading bad contract(Petry) for bad contract(Chairot) because it usually doesnt work out for either team. DET is in direct competition with PIT for a wildcard spot this year and therefore shouldnt deliberately make them a better team. I think Chicago is a better trade partner for Petry. They have the cap and he might waive because Detroit to Chicago is a shorter distance than Pittsburgh to Detroit.

only way to get rid of Petry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HulkVader</b></div><div>Chicago is one of the teams that worries less about cash than cap. Huge market, they’re very profitable and will continue to sell loads of tickets now with Bedard in the fold. Fit does matter, but a guy like Bedard accelerates a rebuild. At any rate, Chicago isn’t going to volunteer to take Petry, that much is certain. I just wouldn’t deal a first for it. If my only choices were deal a first to dump Petry or walk away from Karlsson, I’m walking away, especially considering they’ll have to deal another first to get EK.</div></div>
How serious are PIT really? Do they want to go for it while Sid(36), Geno (36) and Letang (36) are still playing or no? If you hold on to Petry, you waste 1 or 2 years. Hawks would do PIT a favour for taking a 1st for Petry. Im not even sure if PIT makes the playoffs with the current roster. I thought they were going all in to win the cup, not for making the playoffs and be happy

only way to get rid of Petry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Sharks don't "want to make a deal," they'd <strong>like</strong> to make a deal if it gives them sufficient future benefits to justify giving up Erik Karlsson. There's a subtle but definitive difference between the two motivations. But the entire Karlsson situation has been the usual victim of "info creep": what has gone from Mike Grier acknowledging that it might be in San Jose's interest to trade him now, and Erik Karlsson's acknowledgment that he might be open to being traded to a destination of his approval, has morphed into a perception that Karlsson has "demanded" a trade and that the Sharks have now got to trade him.</div></div>
Karlsson is a Norris trophy winner and 33 years old with 4 years remaining on his contract. 1 year ago nobody would touch Karlsson even with retention. The value will never be higher than what it is now. San jose is a small market who doesnt generate much money now that they are in a rebuild. Keeping Karlsson doesnt make sense for what Sharks want to do. They want to tank and save as much money as possible. Every GM knows this and maybe thats why Grier havent dealt him yet.

Detroit declines quite easily.
Lafreniere also hasn’t proved he’s worth 4 years at $4.75m.
Rangers can keep him and hope he scores more than 14 goals this year.</div></div>
I dont think Rasmussen have the intelligence to play with top6 forwards like a Bertuzzi, Palat and even Bunting. I see Rasmussen as a career 3rd liner and if Berggren needs to be sheltered 5on5, I would package them for a former 1st overall who got most of his points 5on5 ever since he got there. Laf would score 30+ goals playing on PP1 and on the top line with Larkin & Raymond. Rasmussen can be replaced by Soderblom

Zibanejad have one of the best onetimer, Panarin is the best passer in the league. That PP was firing on all cylinders until Gallant decided to put Zibanejad in the bumper-position and have Panarin &Kane on the flank. That unit with Kreider-Zibanejad-Panarin-Trochek-Fox is elite. no need changing

Would rather send draftpicks than trade Berggren to Ottawa. I would be okay with trading him to another division though. Right now, his points doesnt make up for his defensive liabilty. I get theres different roles on teams but if Berggren is going to continue play a "Nylander-style" he better be a ppg player. If laf became available, I would trade Ras and Berggren to NY.

Laf has gotten better every season, on the third line with a crap coach. Now PL is coach he's "said" laf and kakko will get some top 6 opportunities. There is just no value worth giving up on a first oa for here.</div></div>
Lets see if he signs an extension this summer. In order for him to be a top player he needs to play top6 minutes and PP1. He will never get PP1 because Panarin and Zibanejad are unbelievable. I get its pretty cool to play for the Rangers, but for his career, Detroit gives him a better opportunity to make more money and become the player he was drafted to be.

Doesnt this move make Rangers better? I threw in Berggren (breadman) as well if Othmann isnt ready. You save capspace, improving the bottom6 and a longterm replacement for Panarin

Have Yzerman fired any north american scouts from the Holland era? Detroits first round picks from 2015 to 2018 have not panned out. Seeing how Holland have drafted in Edmonton I guess its not all their fault.
