<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FireShero</b></div><div>It felt/ feels like an overpay. If Meier helps win a cup/ scores 30+ goals a season for the next 6 years less so.
I like both trades for Meier/ Toffoli, but now prospect pool looks shallow for high-end talent and possibly no 1st for two years in a row is worrying. (11 of the 23 players on the CapFriendly roster are 1st rounders including Lazar and Smith).</div></div>
Prospect pool is looking shallow on high end talent? What lol. Hughes, Nemec, Holtz, and Casey are high end talents. Gritsyuk could be in that group. Foote is looking like he'll compete for a roster spot this year. Plus guys like Clarke, Vilen, and Filmon are starting to climb towards being very good prospects. They still very clearly have a top 10 prospect pool in the league lol.
This team should not be picking in the 1st round for the foreseeable future. Their window is open, and should stay open for the next 4-5 years at a minimum if they continue to hand out fantastic contracts(outside of Palat) keeping their cap structure among the best in the league. The picks should *and probably will* continue to be moved to try to win.
Considering what Sharks fans were demanding/expecting in a Meier trade(Locked on Sharks podcast literally said one of Hughes, Nemec, or Mercer will be in the deal or the Sharks just hang up), the return ended up being pretty underwhelming.

Gibson to NJ rumors seem unlikely
I dont see anybody trading for that contract tbh, even if the Ducks retain. Too much of a risk with 4 years remaining for a guy who is seemingly just cooked. Devils certainly wouldnt do it either, as hes a straight downgrade from Vanecek.

Nemec makes the roster
Seems like it could just be a cap move keeping Nemec over Bahl to increase their LTIR pool. Wouldnt be shocked if its just a paper move and Nemec is sent down with Bahl being brought up before Utica opens up their season. Likely the same reason Johnsson is on the roster as well.

But what you’re saying is that Hughes is better than Pettersson despite Pettersson have proven a lot more. Maybe we can talk about this in a civilized manner in 5 years from now but there’s no point in arguing with you if you’re basing all your arguments on the same thing and not being open minded enough to understand what could’ve been a very civilized debate</div></div>
"Can you please make an argument without using the data and facts compared to EP that proves he's better." I can't tell if you're trolling or are just a moron. I legitimately can't tell.

What the hell are you talking about? I'm putting context to your dog**** rookie season argument.
And yeah his development really took a huge hit considering he's one of the best analytical and transitional players in the league and just put up over a PPG at age 20. What a BIG hit!!! They totally ruined him!

No no, you aren't allowed to use context! The fact that Hughes was just 18 and the youngest player in the league, being the only player ever to jump straight from the USHL to the NHL while EP was 20 with professional experience under his belt is irrelevant! The point production in their rookie season is the end all, be all!

Every Players Trade Value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>Hughes was one of the worst analytical players in the league leading up to this season. Your first point is invalid. Pettersson is Atleast consistent and has basically been a point per game. If you want to get that picky, I will bring up advanced stats to show you. Saying Pettersson won’t also remain a point per game is foolish. He had 68 points in 80 games despite starting the year off playing injured. Hughes didn’t even play a full season. He had 56 points in 49 games. That’s a 1.14 point per game average. Pettersson put up 49 points in 40 games in the second half of the seasons. That’s a 1.22 point per game average. Better than Hughes. Your point therefore is also invalid. Try again, this is amusing, like a dog trying to impress its owner</div></div>
I mean, that's just not true. No need to lie lol. Year 1 he wasn't good(sub 20% WAR) and everybody knows that, but year 2 he took a huge leap(~77% WAR) except the points weren't there. This year he took another big step and was elite(99% WAR), and the points came too.
There's no excuses for Pettersson not being able to be a PPG player. On a better team, with a better supporting cast, and more experience/age to go along with that. Hughes is flat out on a much better trajectory at a younger age, that's a fact. No debate to be bad. Pettersson is very good, but Hughes is and will be better.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>You have to back that up a lot. He had a good 49 games. Petterssons was better in the second half of the season. Pettersson has a Calder trophy. Hughes had 7 goals and 21 points as a rookie. There is 0 argument to be made here. Bias bias bias bias bias. I can’t take you seriously</div></div>
There's plenty to back it up, just look at anything analytical and it favors Hughes. Then actual production, Pettersson has yet to produce at a PPG pace while Hughes has just done so in his age 20 season. Hughes is likely going to remain a PPG or better player for his entire contract at the absolute minimum. 8M is a huge steal for what he is trendinf towards being.

There is simply no argument there. Once again, you’re missing my point. My point is, Podkolzin is one breakout away from potentially being a very good to elite player in this league and you’re calling him scrap parts. Maybe go back to elementary school where they teach you to read and maybe your parents can help you manage your emotions</div></div>
Hughes is better than Pettersson though, and younger. If I had to build a franchise around one of them, it's Hughes every day of the week without thinking twice.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CalvinKlein</b></div><div>Devils would never make this trade. Hughes is not only the face of the franchise, but he's the only player in this trade that has the potential of scoring 100 points in a season. Suzuki essentially fills the role that Nico does now, regardless of whether he's better than Nico or not.
The only way they'd consider it, is if it's the 1oa and they pick Wright, but even then I still don't think they'd do it.</div></div>
Agree. Hughes is far and away the best player in the trade along with the highest ceiling, even if it included Shane Wright. The Devils dont even take time to consider it. Only 20 years old and already playing at a PPG this season, only going to keep getting better.

I dont agree at all that they probably finish in the basement again. Things would have likely gone massively wrong if they do. If the young guys continue to take a step forward as expected then they should be a bubble team, but miss the playoffs and pick somewhere in the teens. Then make the playoff push next season.

Except this was never a rumor. The rumor was that the Devils may be shopping the 4th overall pick for a very good young D with team control. Risto is none of that. He is not young, he is not very good, and he is not under team control as he is a 1 year rental.

I'm positive. He is a 10.2c RFA. Which means, "the player is only eligible to negotiate and sign a contract with the club that holds their signing rights. They are ineligible to negotiate a contract (offer sheet) with any other club. They are also ineligible for arbitration."

Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzmets</b></div><div>Reinhart came with a 6 year extension. Of course any team trading for Reinhart will be relatively confident they can resign him if they didn't already have a deal in place. Perhaps the Ducks don't trade Zegras but if they are confident Eichel will be healthy it is a worthwhile price to pay for a player that is likely significantly better than Zegras will be or anyone picked at number 3 will be. If New Jersey feels they can be competitive this year with Hischier being healthy and Hughes hopefully becoming a productive top 6 player then they might take a chance on a player like Risto. If it works out and they are competitive, Risto would not have an issue resigning there, if it doesn't and NJ is towards the bottom of the league again they can flip him at the deadline for a late first to a contender like CBJ did with Savard</div></div>
Risto isn't getting a 1st in return. Period. Definitely won't get a prospect on top of it as well.
