Well it definitely does for people like Holloway, who hasn’t played a game since being drafted. Or at least where he was on the team trading for him’s draft board certainly does.

Oh, I’m sorry, the Oilers actually had Holloway ranked 45th, which is why they chose him at 14th overall. Whether they’re right or wrong, the Oilers think that Holloway is a good player. And they can’t have changed their minds since then, because <strong>he hasn’t played a game</strong>

You shouldn’t be giving up the 14th overall pick for an average backup. He’s not even that much better than Smith.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>So you think Yegor Chinakhov has the value of a 1st round pick? I'd say Jean-Luc Foudy has more value than him and Foudy was picked in the 3rd round of this years draft.
Your logic is flawed. Value of a player has nothing to do with where he was drafted. Nothing. Ask any GM or executive in the league.</div></div>
If a team had Holloway ranked in the 2nd round on their draft board, then sure, they would value him like that. But 95% of the league would’ve ranked Holloway in their top 31, so he’s by consensus worth a 1st.
And in the end, all that matters is how the team that is trading away a player values the player. Sure some teams might’ve ranked Foudy ahead of Chinakhov, but CBJ wouldn’t trade Chinakhov for Foudy, and that’s all that matters. So EDM values Holloway as a 14th OVR pick, and they aren’t trading him for any value less than that.

Rounding out the offseason
Nice roster. I don't see Bouchard making it over Lagesson to start the season though - especially if it means starting Larsson out of position. I'm still hoping for an upgrade in net... surely AZ won't carry 3 goalies this season, will they?

Ideal Roster
I think we could do a bit better than Kahun, but I'm not that familiar with him, his stats aren't 1st line with McDavid quality. I like Nygards speed, but I think Neal would be able to create far more opportunities on the 4th line. Line 3 should be fast checking/depth scoring off the rush . With fourth line a big heavy line with depth scoring off the cycle
Ennis. Turris. Archibald
Neal. Khaira/Haas. Kassian/Chiasson
Nygard/benson would better fit the 3rd line if Ennis were to move up

If Kassian isn't Edmonton's guy, then they could sign someone with a big ass and put him on the wing. He wasn't the best player available. There was no harm in adding a scoring winger.</div></div>
Holloway is a way better offensive player than Kassian lol.

There is a reason it took Lucic as the return to move him.
It's not even worth arguing. No one wants that contract. The penguins had Neal back in the day, when he was actually good. And even they moved on from him then.
They aren't taking him back now.
Because they know he's not useful. Which was the whole point. It's not a comparison between JJ and Neal. It's this absurd belief that Neal is useful.
He's not. The fact that you are trying to swap him for JJ tells you how useless he is.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ken_holland</b></div><div>We needed to retain on Lucic, and add a 3rd for the Flames to do that trade.
Neal is a useful player in a minimum league deal. He can score goals on the powerplay. Got lit up 5v5 because he was playing way too many minutes against top competition.
JJ on the other hand is still awful in a minimum league deal. That's the difference. You're pretending that awful deal = awful deal, when the JJ deal is obviously much, much worse. Neal is even retained for 2M in this deal for crying out loud. And adding Caleb Jones is laughable.</div></div>
The retention means this deal is Jack Johnson at 3 x $5.25M going to Edmonton and Neal at $3.75M going to Pittsburgh. Laughable that this guy thinks that's reasonable.

Trading Nuge
I'm an outsider on this evaluation, but this seems like a decent trade.
EDM
Fleury, Haydn [RFA Rights]
Niederreiter, Nino
2020 2nd round pick (NYR)
2020 1st round pick (TOR)
CAR
Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
Additional Details:
Nuge extended
RNH is a very good player, who's going to get a very nice raise next year. This trade doesn't help with Edmonton's cap issue this year, but addresses next years (because of the RNH raise). Fleury gives EDM another NHL level D, but when added to Niederreiter cap, it is higher than RNH. The value here is that #13 overall pick, and to a lesser degree, the #41 pick.
So this is standard for a good player, a 1st, a prospect, and a roster player. This offer is a 1st, a prospect with the 2nd, and two roster players, aged 24 & 28. Niederreiter is a middle6 winger, and Fleury is a 3rd pair D, that can play both sides.
Take it or don't take it, it doesn't matter, but the value and the reasoning for the trade is there, IMO.
Ottawa portion, that #41 gets flipped to Ottawa for the #64 pick, for taking the Russell contract, for 1 year. I would do this trade, and try to flip Russell at the deadline for another, lower pick, after 3/4 of his cap has expired.

I can’t say I agree with some other comments I think that’s a pretty aggressive offer to Tampa. I’m on the fence about that one. I like it but 14th overall is tough to part with this year. I think between 12-16 is where a few big steals will take place.

Though I think Koskinen will be the starter next year.
I find it hard to think Marky will leave.
