A 3rd team could be added to accomodate Johnson contract more efficiently.

Pens are in. I wish I could accept it for them. I think the rumors are, the Leafs are asking for more than that for Holl though.

No the value is fair. I just meant it would have to be changed around to work Liljegren in the deal as we have no RHD after Klinger. I’d love Liljegren, Amirov, and a first but feel like that may be a little greedy if we’re selling him as a rental. Maybe not. Depends on the demand I suppose

i'd say the leafs only untouchables are probably robertson, and MAYBE niemela.</div></div>
TBH, theres probably not much by way of deal that either party would be agreeable to. Strome is playing again under the new coach and has looked much improved so a deal would need to consist of a quality player. I like Kerfoot but the salary commitments are a put off. Would prefer a prospect but the only few we would have interest in, you would probably want to deal for different players i.e. Sandin, Amirov....
Nylander is having a year to build up confidence and Fitness tho could be tempted with a 2nd round pick I imagine.
Kuba would require a good payment. He is a quality goal threat in the league and would need a 1st involved or a quality prospect and in all likelihood both for us to part with him.
All 3 are RFA so we have control over their next deals which gives more value to them and more leverage to us.

This might be bad take but I'm going to argue that the Leafs shouldn't make any trades at the deadline this year. Trading for a rental every year eventually depletes draft pick and prospect pool. With so many first round exits in the playoffs, the rental players aren't the missing piece in my opinion. I think Dubas needs to address the team and basically lay it out and say, this is the team. Now show up.
While I know the team is in win now mode, Dubas is also tasked with figuring out how to adjust the teams long term plans with the variable of a flat cap for 2 years. When he signed the big 4 contracts, it was with the mindset that those cap hits wouldn't look so bad around this year and forward.

Like the idea of getting Dylan Strome and Alex Nylander on the Leafs.
Forsberg and Fabbri also are good options.

Both CHI deals are really non starters. The values are well short of what would be needed to convince us to move any of the pieces mentioned.

Ottawa and Vancouver seem to be built the exact same way, a good amount of high quality players but the rest of the roster is way below average (particularly on defense) to compete in this league. I think it tells you all you need to know about both managements, they just have no idea on how to surround their core.

just jokes. seabrook, keith, oduya, and hjalmarsson made up arguably the best top 4 in their primes.</div></div>
haha. I probably could have put together a better group of active d-men not just based on points. But my eyes is getting droopy so I decided to stick with ranking them by points. Same with forwards. I probably could've put together something closer to traditional grinder and checking lines and spreading out the offense a little and trying to keep it cap compliant. But that's all speculative and would take too long. I'm sleepy. Points gets it done. haha. Maybe I'll work on it a little more tomorrow and change it up.

Yeah. He wasn't on any Cup rosters but technically he was signed before they won the cup in 2015. Same with Forsling. They got Forsling in a trade in January 2015.

He joined the league in the 2015-16 season, right after the Hawks won their last cup.

next season
This injury may complicate the Wood signing. Not a great deal of transparency on the injury, other than "hip surgery", but if this has negative affect on skating (his greatest asset), I would be deeply concerned about the next contract. Very tricky & could hurt his trade value.
Assuming they can come to some kind of agreement on the contract, I'd keep him. There is no obvious replacement for his spot on that 4th line. Yes, there is a long line of hopefuls, particularly Foote comes to mind, but no one as an obvious slam dunk. Wood has a unique skill set, one which I believe NJ is in short supply of. I'm not sold as Kuokkanen or Foote being a good fit there; Studenic, Thompson, Zetterlund meh. Idk, if the skating is still there, Wood is the right piece for this team.

Even if he did make it back, would likely be after deadline.
And I think Hughes stays at Michigan two years, arrives here end of next season (April 2023).

Major upgrade in 2 moves
So the Denver Post who doesn’t even have a guy at every game or send a guy to practices regularly thinks COL is enamored with a guy they drafted 4th to overall (shocking) and because 1+1+1=5 the Avs are going to trade a 23yo elite puck moving dman signed to a long term sweet heart deal for a bunch of 2nd line crap(oh ok). Let’s be real Girard for a 1st line winger + sweeteners gets the conversation started not hey here are some draft picks.

Every non leaf fan prior to the season starting.
"You have two backups, the leafs won't make the playoffs"
12 games in with Campbell being really good so far
"Campbell deserves 5+"
I would wager a fair sum he's going to be labeled a backup more than once before he is resigned and the moment he does, all the guys on here saying he deserves a huge pay check will say "lol, he's a soon to be 30 year old backup, you are in cap hell"

Not sure why everyone above doesnt want to do their research, but this is a good trade for both parties... Not sure which team, if either, would reject, but this is solid. Ignore those other comments just saying "No not gonna work" without expalining why, this is a case where they should be explaining why thats their opinion because this is a good trade.
I have said "this is awful" on other trades, that are actually awful lol, and i dont need to exaplin because they are actually a bad trade.

Am I Crazy
I definitely thinking trading Thomas would be a huge mistake. Maybe in a package deal for a guy like Tkachuk or Eichel, but this looks like an immediate downgrade that would only look worse over time.
FWIW, here are the top 5 even strength scoring rates of anyone with over 500 TOI drafted since 2017:
Jason Robertson: 2.84 EVP/60 in 54 GP
Elias Pettersson: 2.49 EVP/60 in 165 GP
Joel Farabee: 2.19 EVP/60 in 107 GP
Max Comtois: 2.17 EVP/60 in 94 GP
Robert Thomas: 2.08 EVP/60 in 169 GP
He had a tough year with injuries but seems to me a lot of people are sleeping on how good of a player Robert Thomas already is, and what he can be.

Stutzle or Byfield?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>leafs_and_devils</b></div><div>byfield for sure. byfield has top 5 center upside. stutzle is good but he will never be anything close to byfield.
that said, for a team on the verge of competing, stutzle is the choice - he's nhl ready, is going to be pretty impactful almost right away as we've seen, and will boost a team from a playoff team to a cup team.
for a rebuilding team, byfield. patience is key. byfield is a project, but if developed correctly - and he's a serious talent so it won't be hard to develop him right - he can become a top 5 or at least top 10 center.</div></div>
Exactly this, Byfield can be amazing but the Kings aren't going to rush him. He will need to prove everything, first that he can take over Vilardi as the 3C, and eventually show he is both defensively and offensively better than Kopitar and Danault before he ready for that 1C. By that time though Stutzle will already be established, so it depends on how quick you want results. If the question is who will have the most points in three seasons, it's Stutzle, if it's who is the better player in three seasons, I think it will be Byfield.

Literally Changing The Game of Hockey
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>leafs_and_devils</b></div><div>i love it. thanks for sharing the articles. super neat idea, would certainly love to see a team take this leap. dubas & co's forward thinking could lead the leafs to being that team, and i would be all for it.
naturally, i have some minor contingencies with the lines & we'd need to trade/sign based on the structure - you can't have a valuable player in ritchie buried while dahlstrom is playing nhl games...
but i love the idea. super neat.
also defensive dmen tend to get paid less so you could totally fill up the leafs roster with like a bunch of them and then have matthews, marner, JT, and styles run the show up top.</div></div>
I made some minor tweaks and added Ho-Sang and Gustafsson from FA. I think both these type of players would thrive in such a system.
