Caps shouldn’t empty most of their only few good prospects for these. BMac might get a center but only a rental like Henrique or Monahan.

No man no. Dowd, 1.3 for 2 years but we get a 4th liner at 3.6 million (he actually gets paid 5 million next year)? Maybe build a deal around Dowd and we get Lindgren? We would have to add of course...

Not sure Avs have what Caps would expect. What about Foudy? How is he? He's been hurt most of the year?

Then they are downgraded. Dowd is (you know this) excellent defensively, can score, great on faceoffs...Caps have no one that could replace him.

Hoping they don't trade Dowd until next years deadline (unless they are somehow in it next year at this time).

Trade deadline
This is a lot of work for Brian McClellan! I don't think he will do this much in March. If they are out of it, I think he simply sells off the expiring like you have here and maybe a surprise trade off of one of the RHD (also like you have here). In the summer after the draft you might see him buyout Kuzy and try to sign a big free agent of the age range he had talked about (well under 30). Whether he can pull that one off remains to be seen.

Mony for Leonard
Caps have so little in the pipeline to begin with that they would be hanging themselves if they did this. Kid could be top line forward, and soon. SM would be a nice add to the Caps wonky Centre group though but as a rental I think. Although I don't think the Caps will be buyers this year, at least that's my gut feeling on where I think they end up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jazzykiwi</b></div><div>Besides ovi discussion. What do you think about my Hertl trade?</div></div>
I am of the view that the Caps shouldn't go get Ovi a center to go for the goals record. I think what you have might work for that but to give futures (Caps don't have many) for that reason to me would be not wise. Again if the org/owner whoever has that as the main goal, getting Hertl would be a great add for that purpose.

Don't know if you saw but Staal (Carolina) accidentally fell on his left leg like almost full weight. I think Ovi is skating in a lot of pain right now. He did skip two practices also. This has made him even slower right now. I think after January 27th the Caps will have 12 calendar days off with the All Star break and I think you will see him playing better after that as it will give him full time to heal.

I personally have never needed to see that happen (although it would be cool), I just hope they can reshape the team in the next couple that they can avoid a total 'classic' rebuild. When I see what teams go thru to get good again, it can be very frustrating, long, and painful to watch.

Just like with Backstrom (and you are starting to see it with Oshie), his own ineffective play and the realization that the Caps are in the mushy middle now, might change the perception in the next year or two though.

This is not a good time for the Caps in their timeline to do something like this. They need to (like Ottawa all these years) stack high prospects because they will be picking in the higher parts of the draft for the next few years. Maybe a younger team that is a piece or two away. Caps are not that team anymore.

Not to be a di** but Chabot has been in the NHL for 7 years and isn't even at 400 games played? That contract is not looking like a bargain for the Sens. He is getting 10 million for the next 3 years and struggles to play over 60 games a year. Caps would not be smart to pay a potential top 10 pick in June for this guy. For a 'horse' yeah. But this guy ain't a horse.

I honestly would not even trade him. He is one of the Caps best forwards and don't know where they'd be without him. He's 1.3 million next year too. Maybe I'd trade him at '25 trade deadline though.
