As long as Ovie is on the team, Caps are in "win now" mode. Would they move Leonard? Would Montreal sweeten the deal a bit to get him? Habs could pick up a bad contract to help. A mid round pick. Thoughts?

Habs would be adding significantly to that, If we are lucky we sneak a 1st out of someone for Monahan, but it will be a late first at best probably 24th or up. Leonard shouldve probably been a top 5 pick (by the habs) last year and i dont see a logical reason for the caps to sacrifice that for a lower end middle 6 forward when that doesnt move the needle enough to make their true cup contenders.

Caps have so little in the pipeline to begin with that they would be hanging themselves if they did this. Kid could be top line forward, and soon. SM would be a nice add to the Caps wonky Centre group though but as a rental I think. Although I don't think the Caps will be buyers this year, at least that's my gut feeling on where I think they end up.

I love Monahan and I rather they resign him instead of trading for a late 1st but for Leonard?!? Thats insane!! There's a massive difference between a top 10 lottery pick and a pick in the late 20s. And Leonard probably should have been a top5 pick.
