Hayes Value
Teams should only be giving up 1st rounders for rentals if they are true cup contenders. BOS and BUF giving up a '19 first for a rental is a bad idea. COL and WPG I'm okay with them making that move. Are you calculating trade value using on ppg?

The least valuable of those combinations is Senyshyn and Bjork. The most valuable is Heinen and Zboril. I'm of the opinion that Senyshyn plays less than 100 games in the NHL before his career is over. He may have a successful AHL career but I don't see an NHL career. Ala Chris Bourque. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it. If you're going to say "Senyshyn is finding his game" because he has five or six goals in his last six games - that's just the kind of streaky scorer he's been. Most teams aren't biting on a Senyshyn/Bjork/pick trade package for a productive forward.

Trade with Flyers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>I don't personally think Simmonds has declined...Flyers as a team has gone downhill and his performance alongside it.</div></div>
You're entitled to your opinion, but last year the Flyers made the playoffs and Simmonds had his lowest point total (46) since the lockout shortened season when he had 32 points in 45 games. Prior to that it was his lowest point total since 2010-11(30). Maybe a change of scenery bumps Simmonds a bit, but this is a contract year and it's not happening thus far. Typically players have good seasons when they're earning their next contract.

Trade with Flyers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>Simmonds is a decent, right handed 25-30G goal scorer, which this team absolutely needs. Goal scoring has been statistically probably the biggest problem of this team, and after Bergeron's injury you could really use a guy like Simmonds.
And Folin is a sort of a replacement for the place that Krug leaves...</div></div>
This team could use Simmonds from four or five years ago. Each of the last three years he has declined in production, with him being on pace for another decline in year four. A team acquiring Simmonds gets the 18-19 Simmonds and that player doesn't make this team better when you're subtracting Krug. That leaves you at a net negative in production.
BOS doesn't need a Krug replacement on the backend. There are plenty of offensively capable D back there currently, and for the near future. If the team deals Krug, they need to replace his production up front by 150-175% and not worry about it from the D corps.

Trade with Flyers
This trade doesn't improve the Bruins for this year or next. Simmonds is going to get free agent money and will not be worth his next contract. He is also producing at same rate Jake Debrusk is. Adding another Debrusk isn't moving the needle for this team. Folin is an RFA but BOS doesn't really need more defensemen.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>That's cute, Krug's on pace for 60 points...again as a defensemen. Also where are you getting 107 points of offense from?
Hayes for his career is roughly a 50pt player / Vesey 30pt player, that's 80 combined. Even if you look at their OPT for this season its 101 and that's with both guys having career years :tearsofjoy
Tell you what though, lets just use OPT's for this. Krug would be able to cover 60% of your two forwards production on his own HAHA. Our defensemen is on pace to have the most points of the 3 and he's going to play in roughly 10 less games.
With that, I'm done but I appreciate you giving me a good laugh. Enjoy thinking you have some fantastic pieces in Hayes/Vesey though...funny that the Ranger themselves only signed him to a 1-year deal. For a guy so good and you'd imagine part of the future, you'd think they'd have locked him up long term.</div></div>
What planet are you on? Nevermind. I don't want to hear from you anymore. You're the all knowing. You're the 32nd best GM on the planet. :tearsofjoy

Crazy? Yeah, adding 107 points of offense to the forward group is crazy. Vesey on pace for 45 points this year, but yeah you’re right. You do you bud.

I don't hate this trade, but I do question NYR's motive for this move. It would commit a substantial sum committed to the backend. For 19-20 they would have $27m+ going to five D. Hayes and Vesey are 3 & 4 on the team in points and I think this would bump up their value and might require more from Boston. If NYR is not sold on Hayes being worth his next contract then I can see this trade being entertained, but they are not far from a playoff spot and I don't know if they would get worse for this year. I think this trade makes them worse this season.

Tarasenko
Tarasenko is a steal at $7.5m. That's a quarter mill more than Krejci. STL isn't moving him for this package, or likely any package that isn't including a stud D. Backes has been and will continue to be an albatross for the length of this contract. His best value right now might be as a glue guy who can help mentor younger players. It's unlikely Backes accepts a trade to any of those places.

An idea
Dustin Brown is David Backes with 200 more games worth the mileage on his body. Both are 34 and play a similar style. I don't need another David Backes on this roster. I also don't need to trade Krug for draft picks. If you are removing Krug's point production from the backend you need to add a significant offensive power to the forward group. Dustin Brown is not that guy. That's how this team improves, by adding balance to the first two forward lines.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>I'd have to think that CHI would be looking for someone with a lower cap hit and longer team control than Krug.</div></div>
I agree. They're going to be paying Keith and Seabrook into their late 30s. They need value in the D corps. A 39 yr old Keith (in 22-23) is going to be at a 5.5m hit and a 38 yr old Seabrook (in 23-24) is going to be at a 6.8 hit. Both with NMCs. They also need a long term plan in net. Crow is aging if they don't have a solid option internally, they will end up paying for it in free agency. Delia might be that internal option.
Long story short, CHI would be more interested in Carlo, Vaak or Lauzon.

Trade krug
From a BOS perspective, it's hard to see where you're boosting the offense. If you're taking Krug's points off the backend, then you need to add them to the front end. Toffoli and Heinen had the same production last year and that was a good year for Toffoli. Heinen is down so far this year and so is Toffoli. To me, that's a wash because Heinen's RFA status doesn't reduce Boston's control (offer sheets are rare). Now you have Forbort for Krug and Zboril? I'm okay with softening the backend by trading Krug, but that means Boston's package has bring back a winger who is going to balance those top two lines. A D corps of Z, Mac, Carlo, Moore, Miller and Grz or Vaak is fine if the top two lines are balanced and scoring.

Not a single one of those trades happens. No one wants Backes at his full cap number. You might be hard pressed to find a taker even if you ate 2m of it. A healthy productive Chuckie Brightlights is going to get more than 5.7m

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>Again Oilers not trading Nuge for Krug. Not going to happen. They can’t afford to offensively and Krug is not a RD.
Backes is not waiving for Isles. Only teams i see him waiving for are Preds, TBL, Wash, St L, Minn and possibly Tor. None of those teams want him. He is going nowhere this year. Not to mention the Isles would decline it anyway.
What is B’s fans infatuation with Maroon, other than he kills us? He sucks. He was a product of playing with McDavid. When he is not with him he barely produces anything.
That being said i think that is fair value and would have the best chance of being accepted of the 3.</div></div>
All of this is true. Edm trade doesn't happen, and neither does the NYI trade. Boychuk hasn't been good this year, but Kampfer belongs in the A and Backes is a small step away from retirement. Backes was all grit and balls during his career and unfortunately that wears down the body.

Full agree with you on that goal total getting him paid. I have a hard time believing he takes $2.5m with his upside unless he really likes TOR and is bought into everything they're selling there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>for sure, but matthews hasn't been his center all that much, and he's still scoring. As much as 30+ is an over simplification, I think it's a simplification to say that he'll get between 20-25. He could get more, he could get less. I like the way he's playing and think he could easily get 30.</div></div>
Four goals in the last 17 games vs. four goals in the first 7 games. Where's the trend? Pace down is the trend. Pace will continue the trend with 3rd line minutes and talent. Kap has 2 points when he's on the ice with Kadri. If he doesn't get bumped down then he could approach 30, but not on the 3rd line.

30+ is an overly simplistic projection based. He'll get to 20-25, especially considering his role will drop with the return of Nylander. Kadri vs. Matthews as your center makes a difference.
