Well since they have probably the worst goalie tandem in the league I guess they'd like to get some strengthening to their defense. Ofc I know that Krug is more of an offensive D, but I think PHI needs to add a D, so that their more defensive players, such as Gudas and Sanheim, could focus more on the defending.

This trade doesn't improve the Bruins for this year or next. Simmonds is going to get free agent money and will not be worth his next contract. He is also producing at same rate Jake Debrusk is. Adding another Debrusk isn't moving the needle for this team. Folin is an RFA but BOS doesn't really need more defensemen.

Simmonds is a decent, right handed 25-30G goal scorer, which this team absolutely needs. Goal scoring has been statistically probably the biggest problem of this team, and after Bergeron's injury you could really use a guy like Simmonds.

And Folin is a sort of a replacement for the place that Krug leaves...

At take Simmonds, but not at that price.

PHI doesn't have a need for Krug, they have enough OFD's on the team.
Folin as a replacement for Krug? We have a few guys named Vaak and Lauzon that are going to be fixtures in the top 4 for years to come, we don't need Folin.

This deal doesn't really help Boston as your just rearranging chairs. You're adding a mid-20's goal scorer and giving up a 55+ point d-man.

Out of curiosity, what does Boston need? What would be the ideal return for Krug?

They need a goal scorer, but one with some term on their deal. If I'm giving up good pieces, I want more than a few months of a player. I don't understand why you're even trying to trade Krug. He's an elite OFD whose under 30 years old. If you're looking for a package though. I'd say what the Blues got for Shattenkirk, but better because Krug is signed for another year.

This team could use Simmonds from four or five years ago. Each of the last three years he has declined in production, with him being on pace for another decline in year four. A team acquiring Simmonds gets the 18-19 Simmonds and that player doesn't make this team better when you're subtracting Krug. That leaves you at a net negative in production.

BOS doesn't need a Krug replacement on the backend. There are plenty of offensively capable D back there currently, and for the near future. If the team deals Krug, they need to replace his production up front by 150-175% and not worry about it from the D corps.

I don't personally think Simmonds has declined...Flyers as a team has gone downhill and his performance alongside it.

They have players just like Krug, they need some help in their own end, not a power play qb. Ghost has that taken care of. The trade just doesn’t make sense

You're entitled to your opinion, but last year the Flyers made the playoffs and Simmonds had his lowest point total (46) since the lockout shortened season when he had 32 points in 45 games. Prior to that it was his lowest point total since 2010-11(30). Maybe a change of scenery bumps Simmonds a bit, but this is a contract year and it's not happening thus far. Typically players have good seasons when they're earning their next contract.
