<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>That offer might get Marner but Staal and Minni have no motivation to make the deal, so the it's getting closer to the cap. rangers will be fine in the long term even without the staal trade. By the time most of their players are up for new contracts almost all of our cap will be off the books.
Kreider should be traded unless he agrees to a team friendly extention (at most the Nelson deal)
In 2-3 years when chytil, andersson, howden, rykov, shestyorkin, kravtsov, kakko/hughes, fox, zibanejad are up, we will have Shattenkirk, Staal, Lundqvist, Namestnikov, Smith, Vesey, Girardi buyout, strome, all essentially off the books.

Chytil/Anderrson/howden/rykov probably won't cost too much, probably the salary from Staal Namestnikov and Smith (roughly 3-4m per player).
Kravtsov/Kakko-Hughes/Shestyorkin, Fox and Zibanejad could easily be made up by Shattenkirk, Lundqvist, Vesey, Girardi and strome (and potentially kreider) plus the cap escalators over the next two years (potentially 32m factoring in a 3% escalator per year, roughly 6-7m per player as a raise).

Rangers would be better off signing DeAngelo/Pionk to 3 years, by the time that deal is done, Lundkvist will probably be NHL ready. Similar to the buchnevich deal, he'll be a third liner in 3 years since he plays RW (same as kravtsov and kakko) so having a limited time of him will be beneficial for the rangers. They still have many draft picks this year and the years to come, so bottom pairings can hopefully be filled by 1st and 2nd round prospects (understandable that all prospects won't work out) or cheap free agent signings

Thread: Off-season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nickbowins8</b></div><div>Why trade Krug? And for a guy who hasn't figured it out at the NHL level yet</div></div>

I firmly believe that Krug is the expendable one from our LHD group, yes he is a great point scorer but almost half his career points are on the PP. 288 points while 132 are on the PP (over 45%). He has been a very big liability on the defensive aspect of the ice (has played a better 2 way game in the playoffs). This upcoming season is the final year on his contract will want a big pay increase (i would think around 7 million depending on how this season goes) but with the way Grzelcyk has played, he's shown that he belongs in the lineup. Grzelcyk has made fewer mistakes with the puck and can easily transition the puck out of the zone better than Krug. He is also younger and cheaper (Bruins need to clear cap within the next few years) and can kill penalties and can QB on PP2 as the future plan is to have McAvoy QB on PP1.

As for the trade to EDM, his name was circulating almost all season to be traded to EDM and I spent roughly 20 minutes looking for a team that both needs PP help and a good puck mover. EDM needs both of those things and almost all the remaining teams either don't need an LHD or have plenty of younger Dmen who will be able to play a better 2-way game. I just see JP being a target as he wants out of EDM and look what the Bruins have been able to make of trades for young forwards (I.E. Rielly Smith (23 when traded), Nathan Horton (25 when traded)) He is a big body winger (perfect for Krejci), he has very good speed and isn't afraid to get to the dirty areas for the puck.
