Don't think the Isles would give up that much for Reilly, although I would like to have him on the team.

Without a doubt, yeah. That defensive core would be one of the best in the history of the NHL.

A Great Offseason
I love the Reilly idea, I think he'd be a great add to this team. Kulak too would be a fantastic defensive add, althought I think he will command more AAV than what is currently proposed here. Also, why dump Bellows for a mid-round pick? I'd rather have him available as the 13F over Koivula at this moment. Vatrano is a good depth piece to have playing on Pageau's line, although I don't see Lou buying out Bailey despite his subar play.

Islanders don't make that trade 1-for-1. At absolute best it's a lateral move and likely doesn't move the needle for the team as a whole.

Yeah I think one of Greene or Chara (or both, imagine haha) get signed, and of the two I'd pick Greene. I think Reilly could mesh well with the Isles and I think Boston would seriously consider taking that trade.

Isles likely decline. Mayfield is on a really cheap cap hit for next season and they cannot afford to lose an NHL defenseman right now.

Based on Lou's recent press conference I don't think he has any intention of dealing Varlamov unless it's for a package he absolutely cannot refuse.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>The islanders are nowhere deep enough to have an anchor like Bailey in the top 9. He is a fringe NHL player right now, which makes sense because he turns 33 soon. I agree that they will essentially be running it back, I just disagree that Lou values Bailey. I wouldn't be surprised if Chara is the 2LD next season, Lou is stuck in his ways and he likely won't change.

Lou values Bailey in the sense that he's 100% going to be starting on the team next year. With his cap hit it's especially likely no one would take him unless it was packaged with draft capital or a prospect, which Lou isn't going to do. Additionally, who do you think the Isles would replace him with? I like the idea of Josh being a lifelong Isle but I agree he's playing at a level that is not close to Top 9 in an NHL lineup.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>I disagree, Eberle had the more expensive contract , I don't think Lou knew he wasn't going to be taken . if Bailey doesn't get moved then the isles have no shot at the playoffs next season. He's one of the worst top 9 forwards in the NHL.</div></div>
Larger contract yes, but carried a cap hit of only 500k more. He was a legitimate Top 6 goal scorer that is enticing for an expansion team. Additionally, I think it's incomplete to pin Bailey's presence as the deciding factor of if this team makes the playoffs or not. Beauviller, Palmieri, and even guys like Pageau and Barzal have had years ranging from concerning to disappointing (at least during large stretches of the season so far). Based on the fact that no moves were made at this deadline and the recent interview with Lou, management is committed to running it back with this core. In short, I agree Bailey has been a disappointment for a majority of this season, but to say he is the nail in the coffin for a season that hasn't even happened yet is a bit shortsighted imo.

I think he knew he was not going to be taken. Seattle would have likely taken Martin or Clutterbuck on cheap contracts to help form a locker room, and Eberle was left exposed as a bigger goal scoring threat at roughly the same price. Regardless, I don't think he gets moved unless it's for an undeniable offer.

I don't think Lou is moving any core guys, especially Bailey. Lou is big on the character and chemistry of the team, and Josh is a leader in his eyes.

I agree that line would be solid defensively, but I don't see the organization moving on from Mayfield at this time. Lou is a very big locker room and comradery guy, and Mayfield has been praised as a stand-up member of the club off the ice, and Trotz has touted his on-ice ability, specifically on the PK, several times. Based on the Isles not making any trades at this deadline, I just don't see Lou trading Mayfield when he stayed out of what was a very seller-freindly market this past week. Additionally, they still might extend him next year. He's played with Pelech a ton this year (albiet due to Pulock's injury), and I think the organization values him a lot.

I don't think the Isles make that trade. As much as he gets ragged on by the fanbase, Mayfield is on a great contract for next year and the Isles cannot shed more NHL defensemen. Additionally, Brown wouldn't have much of a slot as the forward core for the Islanders already seems to be set.

Younger than Eberle and costs 500k less. I swear no one is happy unless everyone takes a cizikas-esque discount. What would you have preferred happen that is actually reasonable?

Probably trying to land a big name like Landeskog or Tarasenko, which I personally believe won't happen. If the Isles could sign all the major RFAs and get UFAs like Cizikas, Palmieri, and an Alec Martinez type defenseman I'd be pretty happy with this offseason. Who knows, I have a good amount of faith that Lou will give Trotz a cup-caliber team for this upcoming season.

Unrealistic
I don't think the Isles are giving Beau an 8 year deal. Pelech maybe gets that, but I think they give him 6-7 years at around 5-5.5 million AAV. I think Eberle could fetch a B-level prospect from a team like LA that has a ton of superstar prospects in the works. While I think Tarasenko is a lock to be picked up by Seattle, that deal would be awesome, but sadly I don't see it happening. UFA contracts seem reasonable for the most part, but I think Suter definitely gets more than that.

He really isn't. Isles protected Martin for a reason, not just for his on-ice play and chemistry with Cizikas and Clutterbuck, but his role in the locker room as well. They're not getting rid of him to save a negligible amount of cap space and (for the Isles) useless draft capital.
