Personally I doubt he wins it but I saw someone say a first a second and Kassian for that would be fair. Without Kahkonen. Which in this scenario probably makes sense as Oilers would have cap space to target a more proven goaltender</div></div>
Kahkonen would have to come out first, I think he’s their starter next year. If Kane wins I could see San Jose retaining half his salary for picks, not sure they retain and take on Kassian because they don’t really have the cap space for it. I know he has issues but I would think a later 1st for Kane would be a good start when someone is getting him at $3.5 mil when he scored 32 goals in less than 60 games in total this year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>Yea could be any team. Idk enough about how ltir works but I don’t understand why oilers can’t just leave him there</div></div>
The issue with LTIR that a lot of people don't understand is that if you're a capped out team with LTIR, you typically don't have room for bonus overages. For instance, the Oilers overages for next year are $896 k, which means that your actual salary cap isn't $82.5, it's actually $81.6.
There's something like 14 teams this year that are going to have issues with it, most notably the Canucks who are at $1.25 mil (I think the Halak bonus was the issue?)

I mean, I don't really see why Anaheim does it (meaning I hope that they're trying to make additions with on-ice value instead of just trying to hit the floor like a buncha donkeys). Dropping him would also depend on if/how much of his contract is insured...The actual money owed is almost double what the Sabres have in Bishop.

Not that much diff to Gibson in fact they may be better options</div></div>
they were all significantly better than Gibson this year and all but Husso have been significantly better over the last 3.
Gibson is a good bounce back candidate, but it's not worth paying a first for the chance he bounces back.
This offer would be...fine. Especially because Zacha is on his way out, Tom drafting at 37 scares me, and Wood's value is low and his future uncertain

Max sharks would retain is 2 mil,
Kane 2 mil retained for
Kassian 22 1st & 23 2nd would be the best your going to get.
word is he’s likely to get 7 mil for 4+ on the open market so your saving a bunch is he wins!

You're literally asking all the players to put the team first above their own interests, that could happen with an established contender at a bit of a discount not this drastic in an undesirable market with a team relying strictly on 2 players

A Possible line up The trades are for fun all are unlikely to to take place
Thanks for your comments, all very constructive.
I will put my trust in Granato to find the best line up.
This is just one idea to balance the scoring.
Olofsson and Krebs did not work well last year, not likely to work this year.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zuki9797</b></div><div>why is foegele being dumped <strong>You are most likely correct, he is over paid compared to his performance. I just took a post by an Oiler fan and tried to get more first round picks.</strong>/quote] <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stadel</b></div><div>Your rationale on the top two lines is spot on, but that leaves a third line that will get absolutely crushed without the puck. Krebs was awful in the nhl last year (esp defensively). That line is much better off with a winger thats defensively strong without sacrificing offense (like asplund) which is what I expect olofsson to get moved for. Other than that the moves are fine, but you have this team taking on way too much salary. Subban at 4 years is way too much imo. If they get him it'll probably be a 2 year deal thats back-loaded. <strong>I agree. Krebs with Olofsson last year was not awful but embarrassingly bad (3 GF and 14 GA when they were together). I was hoping no one would notice LOL. When I saw the Sabres picked up Bishop I presumed it was a signal that the Sabres would continue to rebuild this year.
When I watch the Stanley cup action, it is obvious they would need two RHD <strong>BETTER</strong> than Jokiharju, a much better GK than Anderson and all players younger than 24 to have career years.</div></div>

Cup now while building the future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>I think the thing is ppl keep saying that they’ll offer sheet JP. That’s fine. One I think the Oilers match. If not they trade him before that to a team who can match. Or 3 pull a Carolina day you want JP fine we’re taking your best RFA</div></div>
1. The oilers definitely could match, but I said in the disc for this one I will assume they prioritize Yamo and dont match
2. I don't think you can trade a player who has been offer sheeted. I think you have to match or just let them walk. It sounds like any major decisions in EDM are going to wait until after Smith and Keith inform management if they are retiring, so lets say that pushes back their decisions and Pitt gets the OS in before they can trade him
3. Pitt doesnt really have any super sexy RFAs. I have already traded Heinen, Kapanen, and POJ in this ACGM, so they are off the board. The next best would probably be Nylander who is a solid prospect, but if the Pens were scared of a counter offer sheet they would get that business done before they OS Pulju - especially after observing the Carolina Montreal situation
But if you insist that an OS wouldn't happen, just make it a trade and send over whatever the return would be - doesn't really change the interest level Pitt should have for him

Toying with DAL and EDM 3 way trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>joshelkin</b></div><div>I've seen trades where EDM either gives Barrie away or trades him straight up for lesser pieces. The best thing you get from trading him is his freed up cap space. I'm also working under the assumption Smith retires and Mayfield extends</div></div>
So if Smith retires the Oilers waste the cap space on a guy that was getting roasted in NHL and AHL last year? Barrie moved for picks maybe not to bring in wasted cap space that defeats the purpose of moving him. Maybe JP for Mayfield with extension if its reasonable caphit.

Moves To Make If Keith And Smith Retire
In regards to the trades and team itself.
The trades aren’t bad. I did see a rumour that Seattle would be interested in Barrie should he be available. Also pretty fair price to dump Kassian/acquire Soucy, IMO.
I’m not sure if Foegele would get a 4th, but he would definitely have positive value throughout the league somewhere. So that one is pretty good as well.
I’m pretty sure I heard that Kane is looking for $7M in Edmonton and $8M+ anywhere else. $6.5M wouldn’t be out of the question, but I don’t know if it’s enough for him considering rumours about him.
I think Smith comes cheaper than that, tbh. Maybe $4M - $4.5M. I’m not 100% sure though, he’s a tough one to judge.
I think Yamamoto is going to get more $$ and term. Holland seems to be set on him.
I also think Puljujarvi gets more $$ and term, but not in Edmonton unfortunately. He seems to have fallen out of favour with Holland.
I also think that’s too much for Husso. Maybe $4.5 for 1 year as a prove yourself type things before a longer contract. I’m not sure lol
I also think that’s wayy too much for Aston-Reece. He was used as a cap dump in the Rakell trade. Not saying he was a cap dump or doesn’t have value, but that is how he was valued at the TDL. My guess would be anywhere from $1.25M - $1.75M.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk lmao

Moves To Make If Keith And Smith Retire
If Keith retires you get an extra $3.4M in cap, bringing the Oilers’ salary cap for the year to $85,900,000 not $87,900,000
Would it not?
You’re still under the cap if that is the case, though. I’m just nitpicking for OCD purposes lol

I agree the Oilers shouldn't make that deal. Even though it would probably be great, I think you save the cap space and bet on Holloway. Think he's going to be the Guentzel to McDavid's Crosby and Draisaitl's Malkin.
