How is taking on Kassian a good move for the Canes? They already have enough 4th liners competing for a roster spot, we really don’t need another one, especially one that will screw our cap situation. Canes pass.

People drag Smith (myself included) but it’s not gonna be easy to find a goalie that’s better for a similar price. Especially free agency or trade. Kassian I think will ultimately be retained on and I believe oilers will force Keith into retirement. I also can see kane coming back with foegle being dealt as much as I think foegle will bounce back. This is more a scenario I can see than what I think will happen. Just don’t want ppl to keep blowing up this team. Yes the conference finals exposed some holes but you run it back with this group and another year for all these young players who just had their first serious run will only benefit them.</div></div>
Even kuempur tho he didnt look good but i agree run it back dont change a whole lot

TDL Expectations
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>I should explain I don’t want Hill, personally I wanted Wallstedt but now I would target Samsonov or wait till the off-season and kick tires on Kuemper and Jarry. But I think Oilers will make a move and while I think Jones or Holtby make more sense I think Ken wants a younger goalie like Hill or Georgiev or Korpisalo or Vanecek, but we need a starting young goalie and I’m not sold on any of them. Also you would need to give up the second cause that’s what the Sharks gave up, even then might not be enough. Georgiev makes probably the most sense but not sure Rangers will feel rushed to get rid of their backup unless he forces their hand.</div></div>
If you're Ken Holland, you have to take a run at a real starter (even though the cap situation makes it real difficult). Bringing in a Hill/Samsonov/Vanacek/Georgiev/Korpisalo just brings us back into the gamble of hoping running with a Smith/Koskinen tandem won't sewer the season. The really missed their opportunity 2 years ago when they let Calgary outbid them on Markstrom. A starting UFA goalie at the right age and willing to sign in Edmonton doesn't come around very often.

Sharks decline. 2nd is what they paid for Hill. He is signed another year and they are taking back Koskinen a pending ufa. Add a good prospect and maybe.

Fair enough. Alhough I agree on retaining a lot of OELs contract I don't know that's something GMs would do in reality. They want to get rid of it entirely or at least have control over the player. Thus an OEL deal ist not very realistic imo.

Oilers 2122 take 10000000000
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>Yea that’s kind of how I see him too, I think the second pairing left side he still played over 23 minutes a game for Chicagoast year so a drop down to 20 or so might keep him fresher too. My only thing is what happens with Jones if we bring in someone for that left side, I see the lines something like this: nurse-bear, _____-bouchard, russel-Larson, and then laggesson and think koekook played well enough he deserves a 1 million one year deal.</div></div>
Exactly. Keith as 2nd/3rd LD (game to game, depenting on his form/shape) would be fine, good even. Nurse and Larsson had good chemistry so I'd keep them togehter (Nurse more offence, Larsson more defence). And once Keith is done Broberg hopefully is ready.
My D would more look like that:
Nurse-Larsson
Keith-Bear
Keith/Russell-Bouchard
[Lagesson-Jones-Koekoek] --> game to game, scratches, injury fil ins.
I also think that one of Lagesson/Jones/Koekoek could push out Russell as the season goes along.

Offseason based on Scott Powers recent Athletic article
Not that it really matters as I think p you are just picking a decent veteran goalie, Bernier liked it in Detroit and most likely resigns after the expansion draft.
I feel like that second is a bit high even with sending koskinen, unless they were to retain more salary then I could see it making more sense. But also Edmonton right now has nurse, Russell, Jones, Lagesson and broberg. I think if maybe Jones was included in the trade for maybe a forward with some upside could make things really interesting. Strome would be my ideal candidate to go back to Edmonton to play with mcdavid again, but since you have him in the Jones trade maybe a guy like Alex nylander would be of interest to them.
Probably better off not buying out Koskinen since you have the cap space this season just in case you need it next season.
All in all I really like this hawks team, I see them in the playoffs and with Toews and Kane healthy they could easily make a push.

But then you aren’t getting him. I believe Neal, Jones, and 3rd, or Koskinen, Jones is enough for Keith. He is a good veteran defence man that would look very good on our second pair alongside one of Larsson, or Bouchard.

Playing top pair on a bad team doesn't help. Still a #4 dman. Could get a pick with a little retention

As an Oilers fan I don't know. This looks intriguing. The 1st is a lower 1st and we're getting towards "win now" mode. Plus there are still some prospects in the pipeline already. By the time a lower 2021 1st Rd. pick is seriously NHL ready, McJesus and the German guy will be almost UFA. I'd take this. But obviously it'd be way nicer if the 1st was only a 2nd.
[Edit] Forget about what I just said. I overlooked Broberg was in that deal. No, that's too much.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>Like it or not this is probably what the off-season will look like although I do think Neal gets bought out. Martinez would need more money I think which you don’t wanna pay an aging dman yes he had good stats but often wasn’t playing against elite competition and plays on a strong team. I don’t doubt Duncan Keith would do well on the Oilers and I think Ken kicks the tires on him but I doubt they’re willing to give up a ton or at least they shouldn’t be</div></div>
Like I said, I'd prefer a guy like Oleksiak (or similar fringe top 4 D) but they're all going to be even more expensive. On the other hand there is a definite need of another proven top 4 D. Don't know if Keith wouldn't fit. I could see him as a good 4/5 guy to mentor Bear/Jones/Bouchard, who all need more mentoring. And he's still capable of big(ger) minutes. But yes, it'd have to be a bad contract vs. bad contract.

My perfect off-season
Not saying Keith would be a bad addition, specifically with the retention, but because of the talk about Chicago wanting to trade Keith away makes it so they have no leverage in the situation. So to give them a somewhat bad contract and a decent young defenseman, I feel makes it a bad trade for the oilers.

I'm pretty sure I'm the one who offered this, and I like it. I think the Oilers should add more. Maybe change Marody to McLeod or add a 2022 3rd.
