No reason Avs would give up good assets for Chicago's trash.

Opening night roster Colorado
I think you switch Jost and Compher, Sakic made it sound like they're gonna start Jost on Kadri's wing. And as much as I'd like to see Timmins opening night I think they're gonna start him in the AHL to get his legs under him after missing a year and start either Barberio, Graves, or start Byram's 9 game tryout

2020-2021 cup champs
I don't understand why Buffalo would want to do that. They're a young team trying to figure out what they have in some of their young players. You're giving them three years of EJ's contract where he's on the wrong side of 30 and they're giving up one of those young guys they're trying to figure out. The second round pick is good but don't think I'd do that if I were Buffalo

As much as I hate the Red Wings I kind of want to see them get better. That rivalry was a lot of fun, it'd be cool to see it renewed in a cup final

Barrie Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffW</b></div><div>Nylander barely outscored Barrie the year before last, As a forward.. if nylander is so talented how come all I see is nylander to wherever ACGMs since he signed and was underwhelming all year.. guys not a character guy like all the people the avs try and go after</div></div>
I think the reason you see that is because the Leafs already have two big tickets signed in Matthews and Tavares and will have another in Marner this summer. Nylander isn't making as much so he'd be easier to move to get some cap relief and help improve the defense which is a clear weakness for them. As far as his character, obviously the holdout was a bad look and sounds like he regrets it, but the guy is only 23, guys make mistakes when they're that age. Kind of hard to judge the character of someone you've never met.

Even if Byram isn't ready, I think you have plenty of defense to get by for one year. Graves and Barberio have shown themselves as capable bottom pairing defensemen, and you have to think that there's a good chance Timmins is NHL ready this year, and Meloche will be due some NHL time. Don't think it would be a huge deal for one year, they have plenty of options on D and even if some don't work out chances are one of them will.

Barrie Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffW</b></div><div>No way, wouldn't do nylander for Barrie straight... Barrie is a RHD that outscores nylander</div></div>
Well, Barrie outscored Nylander this year, but Nylander had back to back 61 point years as a 21 and 22 year old before this year. Have to think his holdout affected him this year. He's much younger than Barrie, and can play center which definitely adds value. Plus Nylander is much more valuable to the Avs than Leafs and vice versa with Barrie to the Leafs.

Why would they help Toronto just to be good guys? You only help another team if they're gonna pay you an asset to do it. That's how cap dumps normally work

Subban
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LGBstl</b></div><div>Dont see this happening, Barrie has been better the last year or so and why would COL want to help Nashville with their cap situation?</div></div>
I see what you're saying, only help them if you think it makes your team better. I think Subban is a better all around player, not quite as good offensively as Barrie at this point but still close, and gives you more defensively. Adding Timmins might have been too much.

VEGAS deal

So if, say, Montreal offered a second rounder straight up (just one pick before the Avs) Vegas would consider that because they're in a different conference?

It's not really trading the Ottawa pick as much as moving down two spots and picking up an extra second rounder. Honestly if Turcotte's off the board might make sense, seems like most of the other forwards are in a similar group.

I like this trade, feel like it's pretty fair value taking on Clarkson's deal and giving back the top 3rd rounder, plus a first. Hopefully that would be at the bottom of the first round though!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffW</b></div><div>Colorado does have amazing scouting yes, I'd say a hundred pt 22 year old who has all the tools of marner added to the roster while the avs are ready to win is worth as much as what they could possibly draft 5 years into the future, since they are already stocked up on prospects as you said.
I think is rather give up 4 late firsts than a makar, landeskog, rantanen, or other valuable roster player</div></div>
I really dislike this idea that “Colorado is ready to win now, gotta just mortgage the future to try and win a Stanley cup this year.” Not that this would actually do that, but I see a lot of that and it just doesn’t make sense. Yes the Avs should be good enough to compete for the cup next year, but their top players are all in their early to mid 20s, this isn’t a one year window. If there’s a move that makes you better in the short and long term (which this probably would, but 4 first rounders is a lot) then yeah that makes sense but in a salary cap league, it’s always good to have a strong farm system to replenish your roster when you end up having to let guys go to make the cap work. Yeah they should try and win right now but this team should have a 10 year run of being legit cup contenders and every asset they have is valuable to sustain that

Great on paper, but I think there’s too many key pieces on the team that didn’t like how he quit on the team at the end, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence MacKinnon broke out after the trade.

Avs definitely aren’t the favorite for Panarin but I think it’s safe to say they’ll at least be in the mix. I think Turcotte will only play one season and sign at the end of the season. Kerfoot, you’re probably right, but I was riding high off a Game 6 win and feeling optimistic
