Kuznetsov is too expensive for COL now, even at 50% retention. He’s not an option.

OPINIONS WANTED on realistic Kuznetsov moves

Well Kuzy just hired and entirely new agency with the purpose of getting him out of Washington. Now this is 2 separate conversations. IMO you take out his cap hit and he's still an amazing player. Teams will take risks for players of his skill level. Now if you factor in cap hit Kuzy value with no retention would be low like a 2nd + 3rd. something like that and he would need to go to a team like CBJ or Jets (assuming they move PLD). lets say Washington retains 3.9m - 2.8 million (my math isnt great) roughly 40-50% I'd say his value is worth a sizable amount more... Lets say Avs need a true 2c and Washington retains 3.9m. i bet Washington could get 1st + prospect or even additional pick. 65p 1b center at 3.9 -5millionm $$ will get a pretty great return.

I doubt the blues are wanting Kuz. He's older than the player they are targeting and we don't have the cap for him. Our GM just said in his end of the season interview they will be looking at players in the 26 and younger range that have multiple years left so they can grow with our younger core. He's only on a 2 year contract and we are doing a mini rebuild. By the time his contract ends he will be 32. Even if we are getting Kuz we still have to rework our defense and ship out 2 of Leddy/Krug/Scandella. Basically the blues are a horrible match for Kuznetsov

There is ZERO chance COL moves Newhook for Kuz, zero.

As a Preds fan, I don't like the 1st part of the trade. I'm a big fan of the screwing over PIT aspect though :)

Agree - low of Ehlers. What would be your value for Ehlers?

If Winnipeg were to trade Ehlers, which is unlikely, they would want Washington's first round pick, not Carolina's which is going to be 29-32, and they would ask fort Iorio instead of the third rounder

Yeah probably capitals first mcm and Chesley. Jets don't need to trade ehlers so it's going to cost a pretty penny for sure.

What is the maket for Kuzy Opinions wanted
It's so difficult to trade a 7.8m cap hit without taking cap back, especially to team that would be on Kuch's trade list.

Market is kind of limited to legit contenders with cap issues, so return is a little bit limited also with the cap hit of kuzy. A lot depending on cap in cap out, and how competitive Washington wants to remain.

Probably a 1st+more depending if a bidding war happens and money is eaten. Can see a fit with COL, MIN, CBJ, MTL, but the money would have to work. COL and MIN would have a hard time fitting him but not a problem for MTL and CBJ. WPG also makes sense if they have end up moving Dubois to MTL, but hard to see WPG not on Kuz no trade list.

the byfield one was insane lmao.
I think they need to get at least one with hopefully some aspect of another out of these 3 things:
good futures -- a first round pick or equivalent plus a second round pick or equivalent
enough cap space to sign or trade for another impact forward to take his spot (think of someone like Schmaltz, Konecny)
actual good roster players, almost certainly forwards
One that has been going around a lot that I think makes a lot of sense is Kuzy for Miller straight up, which solidly hits #3. The one here of a 24 1st and 25 3rd with no money coming back I think would almost certainly be accepted as well, although I'm not sure how many teams would be able to do something like that. Another one that's gone around a lot that seems reasonable is 23 1st to WSH, 23 2nd + B+ prospect to AZ to retain ~2.5m, Kuzy to CAR although I think Kuzy is maybe the least compatible player with Brind Amour's system. I could see something like Kuzy to SEA for 23 1st + Wennberg, where WSH is clearly downgrading at center and not getting the full 7.8m to work with but gets a pretty good roster player and a 1st in return. Another one that I would be fascinated by is some variation of Kuzy for PLD with picks probably going to WPG as well.
What they absolutely will not do is retain a ton of money or take on bad money in return or attach assets just to ship him out like DET with Vrana or even CGY with Monahan. The initial reporting on his trade request is still unconfirmed by the Caps' top beat writers and I don't think the relationship has soured so much that they would do anything necessary to get him out of town. He's frustrating at times (basically all the time this year) to fans and management but I've never read anything about him being a bad guy / locker room cancer and is still an extremely talented player.

Caps deadline to prep for a re-tool
<a href="/users/SAMOBITTS65" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@SAMOBITTS65</a>
Let me run this up the flag pole and see if any one solutes this.
Buffalo trades Bryson, Olofsson (50% retention) and 2024 third to Washington for Jenson, Mantha and 2023 second.
Olofsson is worth significantly more than Marjala, ARI 2024 4th, BUF 2023 7th and BUF 2024 3rd.
Buffalo adds a power forward and RHD Washington gets a potential 35 goal scorer, LHD and cap space.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sabresforlife</b></div><div>As a Bufalo Fan I'd do that deal for Mantha he's never lived up to expectations and he's over paid but Buffalo is nowhere near the cap and could use some size</div></div>

So Washington gives up all that for a guy who is too old and that they can’t possibly re-sign (?). This is a horrible idea. Let someone else hope Kane’s still got it.
This is a great way to waste your present and absolutely destroy your future.

Yeah but honestly I feel like this is an overpay. If Chicago wants the 2023 1st, we’re probably taking out Iorio. But honestly, can’t see the caps buying rn.

Would be the best two way/defensive center group in the league. Might as well give the Kings the cup already.
I get your point though, but I would love to have Eller. Not very realistic.
