A very solid team
Not giving up two top 10 or even top5 picks plus a top 20 prospect in the league for Cat. Like what he brings but in no world does it make sense for Ottawa to pay so much just to have to sign him to his big ticket contract. If he was signed at 6.4 for another 3 or 4 seasons then maybe but as is, I would much rather give up significantly less for Fiala and also pay Fiala significantly less on his next contract. Use the money and assets saved elsewhere.

Terrible trade for Ottawa. They are not close to a playoff team, trading 2 lottery picks and a high end prospect for a winger in his walk year is horrendous

Yeah, but I am of the opinion that we cant afford to pay a 30yo CBrown >5MM. I think OTT should move on From CBrown this season if we land Giroux or can parle the CBrown return into Fiala/Boeser

If the Sens retain 1.25 to bring his AAV to 3.5, then yes he'd have value but with his inflated AAV, I don't think he'd have much. It would have to be a hockey trade like Voracek - Atkinson last summer
Tierney now and Murray eventually too!</div></div>
I think armchair GM’s sometimes undervalue players because we are frustrated with their performance. I can’t tell you how many guys I’ve seen listed as buyout candidates that won’t be.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Borocop</b></div><div>if teams try and leverage him being overpaid to get the sens to add an asset id buy him out instead, but i think he ends up getting traded for a mid-round pick like a 4th or something</div></div>
Id rather sit on white than buy him out.
Hes overpaid by 1.5M, but OTT isnt anywhere near 1.5M away from the cap.
As Zaitsev, MDZ, Hamonic etc come off the books, Whites contract wont be a problem.

White has solid trade value you shouldn’t buy him out.

Don't get me wrong I love White, but unless Ottawa's planning on moving Pinto for some reason, there's just not a place for him. Kastelic is such a natural fit as the 4C too.

yes, give a team 4 potential core pieces for 10+ years for 1 guy.. OTT passes teams are not in the habit of crippling their farm teams for 1 player. not to mention he will ask north of 9M on his next contract

My opinion is Ottawa should keep their picks and players and just spend wisely on UFAs. They would much better in the long run.

Pinto isn’t going anywhere unless we get Wright, and even then we’re not adding a 1st to him. If we trade for Fiala it’ll likely be with early 2nds + good prospects (like a couple of Greig, Jarventie, Brannstrom)

Over under on how many people yell at me
If the ask is a 2nd then why in the world would Ottawa need to add their 2019 1st round pick (19th overall) to the 2nd that theyre already sending??
Count this in the tally of people yelling at you. Minny's hands are tied, he's a FA in August. Youre not getting a 1st round pick whos one year younger plus a 2nd.

Hard pass on Holl. Muzzin is more interesting but still a pass. Dont need to be prioritizing bottom 4 RD over all the other holes on the roster.

Pens trade Sens
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsGoPens69</b></div><div>*Played on 1st line in Toronto most all of his PT there.
*Played on the 2nd line all last year with the Pens. 30 points in 40 games(.75PPG).
*Played on the 2nd line all season with the Pens this year. 5PPG and playing poorly. That’s a pretty good “floor” I’d say.
*Just got moved down to the 3rd line on Carter line. E-Rod moved up to the 2L. E-Rod is having his best season of his career and gonna score 20 plus goals this season(has 17 goals so far). He deserves the promotion too.
So no, I’d say he’s been a top 6 on contending/play-off teams his whole career. Except the last 3-5 games.</div></div>
And? Nikita Zaitsev has been playing 1st pairing minutes basically his whole career. He's a useful player but he doesn't make a top 6 better. He <em>CAN</em> play there when you have a top six with Crosby/Malkin/Guentzel or Matthews/Marner/Nylander, but he's a passenger player. That's not what Ottawa needs on their 2nd line. Kapanen is more suited to 3rd line duties.

Pens trade Sens
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsGoPens69</b></div><div>Kappy’s younger, cheaper(his QO this offseason is 875K but has arbitration rights, probably will get 2.25M-3M per; he won’t get the 3.2M he’s getting now unless he picks it up and gets hot for acouple weeks).
Kappy super talented too. Undeniable on the ice. Fast as hell, great shot, good playmaker, good 200 foot player, good on PK, good on the PP, plays physical and “hits” more than enough(has 81 “hits” this season so far).
Is he in the doghouse and playing inconsistent.? Yes. But every shift he plays you still can’t miss him. Does he try and make too many behind the back passes and take stupid penalties that really bother Sully..? Yes.
But he’s still a .5 PPG player when playing poorly. That’s a good “floor”and a “floor” a lot of NHL wingers would kill for. Let him get hot for acouple weeks and he’s a 20 goal scorer again. And last season had 30 points in 40 games(.75PPG).
People think on capfriendly cause he’s in the doghouse; and was a healthy scratch one night. It makes him a bottom 6 or something.
Even though, the next night he was back on Carter line(3rd line) and still is. Sully just wanted to send a message and try to get him going. It’s not even an unusual thing to happen to young players. Doesn’t make him a bottom 6.
He was on the 2nd line all last season on a play-off team;30 points in 40 games(.75PPG). And just got moved to the 3rd line for E-Rod who’s having a great season and is gonna score 20 plus goals this yr.(17 goals so far). Kappy’s a mid-6 on a good, play-off team, at worst.</div></div>
kaps an okay player but the sens arent going to just basically swap them 1 for 1, if browns gone the sens are getting multiple pieces towards the future, not a straight downgrade in terms of player because they can keep him for longer
