We could probably get away if we traded Greig. But hard to see Dorion trading him

Oilers Deadline
Just a hilariously bad deal for Ottawa. The Sens are a garbage defensive squad and Zub is their only top 4 defensive specialist worthy of being called one. Drastically more valuable to Ottawa than a powerplay specialist would be. Sens already have Chabot, and Sanderson is coming in mere weeks. The idea that Ottawa would then give a valuable UFA asset and a 3rd is just icing on the cake.

Yeah no. They wouldn't get fiala done without a 1st

Vancouver wants to keep Schenn. There is no asking price. If a team wants to get Schenn they have to offer something Vancouver can't refuse.

the sens are the wagon of all wagons
I agree with all the above comments on Filip Forsberg. Strangles the rebuild before we even get to see it peak.
We got Anton Forsberg off waivers. I don't see any GM offering him that deal and Ottawa shouldn't either.
Nick Paul is a solid bottom 6 guy, but on a 5 year deal that $$ need to be closer to $2M. I'd go as high as $2.5 on a 4 year deal with zero trade conditions. Otherwise, move him now.

DelZotto is in the American League. Leafs are infinitely better off keeping Holl and Dermot at 3.5, than one Graves at 3.6m....especially if Muzzin stays LTIR (and he has to make the cap work)
Maybe Forsberg is Leaf next season, but if the Sens like him, the Sens can certainly pay him more than virtually any other team can.

Cap maneuver
Pretty sure this cap maneuver idea has been debunked.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">No, simply acquiring players that are already on LTI (e.g. Andrew Shaw) would not work. The reason being is that they need to first fit that player under the cap by using the existing money that they have, and then place him on LTI. The result would be $0 in cap space gained. <a href="https://t.co/FkHnv5dTAo" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://t.co/FkHnv5dTAo</a></p>— CapFriendly (<a href="/users/CapFriendly" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@CapFriendly</a>) <a href="https://twitter.com/CapFriendly/status/1490833323530526721?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">February 7, 2022</a></blockquote>

Cap maneuver
Here's my thought on Weber. Folks are assuming he is gonna on LTIR for four full more seasons. Maybe he does a "Louango" Lou retired. He didn't think it was worth all the effort to do the severe rehab to get stay on LTIR. So he retired instead and his front loaded contract invoked the recapture penalties. Weber is owed "just" 6m on his remaining four years. Maybe he thinks it's just better to retire and rehab and rest on his own schedule.

This isn't how it works unfortunately. The LTIR benefit (additional cap room) is already accounted for when you put them on LTIR on this website.
The way you have it is double counting the cap relief.

Backstrom to Ottawa
Jake Sanderson is the top Dman not playing in the NHL, he's a major part of Ottawa's future. Backstrom is aging, declining and on a bad deal. He's not a piece that makes any sense for Ottawa at all. Really bad trade for Ottawa

Sanderson is 100 times more valuable than Backstrom at this point in their respective careers, I'm glad you said that this is not realistic because Sanderson is an untouchable and you don't trade untouchables. Also why would we need Backstrom?
