Just because better prospects are in the Canes system doesn't mean Sid is worth them at this point. You could argue Nadeau, maybe instead of Blake if you want, but it's really semantics at that point.</div></div>
That's the point though. The Pens have no desire to move Sid, so the only way Sid gets moved is if a team overpays. The Pens aren't going to negotiate a fair deal for all parties. If you want Sid, you give up the "best defensive prospect in hockey" + much more, or you don't get him. It's not about fair value when one party has no desire to move their asset.

Getting Back to 3 Scoring Lines
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>I'm a bit confused on the Pickering trade? You said you're trading him because he won't be part of the Crosby era - but you're trading him for picks who wont be part of the Crosby era.
Not sure I'm sold on that Wild trade. You're giving up assets and paying a lot of money for a 3rd pair dman and backup goalie imo</div></div>
I flipped the picks for Addison who can contribute to this era. The trade basically becomes Pickering for Addison and MAF. And I guess I see Addison as a contributor on the 2nd PP and as someone who can maybe grow into a Top 4 role. He's only 23 so he can contribute at the NHL level now but also hasn't necessarily peaked yet.

The Rutta trade is to FLA, not CHI, but fair enough on the Pickering trade.

Penguins Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brgh4life</b></div><div>The Rust trade is a loss for the pens, but also Rust has a NMC.</div></div>
Rust trade is a loss in the short term but my goal was trying to move Rust while he still has some trade value. But you're right - it's all contingent on him waiving the NMC. I just see that $5 million salary becoming an issue before the contract expires.
Lowry at least brings something to the table, and it feels like either POJ or Ty Smith will have to be moved and felt like WPG would probably be more interested in the more proven NHLer.

Penguins Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fil97</b></div><div>what is that trade to Winnipeg?? why would the pens do that? who is Logan neaton?
also pens would never do the VAN trade, I mean we fired hextall already</div></div>
WPG trade gets us out of paying Rust 5 million for the next 5 years while he still has a bit of trade value. If he's willing to waive NMC, obviously. Neaton is a flier, considering we have no goalie prospects left in the system. Take him or leave him, I don't really care.
I don't put as much stock into Poulin as you, I guess. May or may not be an average bottom 6 player, but I'm leaning towards not considering he hasn't shown us much so far and just took a year off/away from developing his game.

Seeing if Chychrun could work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Play_Party_Hard</b></div><div>Trade talk aside, do you think Chychrun would work well with Letang?</div></div>
It's a valid question and I really don't know. Letang definitely seems to fair better with the traditional stay-at-home partners. But Chychrun and Rutta are listed as both RD and LD, I don't know how comfortable they actually are at playing both sides though. I don't necessarily want to launch Rutta or a guy like Pettersson into the top pair, but it would be nice to have some flexibility of having guys who really can play either side without any drop off so you can mix and match the pairings to find what would work.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Do they want him back?</div></div>
I edited trade to add him. They'd probably take him back. They traded him away for Kessel - it's not like they were actively trying to get rid of him - they gave up an asset to gain an asset, so I don't see why they wouldn't want him back.

That's fair, and like I said I really don't know what the value is, but what else would they be looking for?
* A young, proven bottom 6 guy in Blueger (who I think is RFA controlled? But not sure about that.)
* Pens top prospect in Poulin
* 1st and 2nd rd. picks in next years draft
* Dumo (again is a cap dump so not really valuable to Arizona but)
What else needs added? More picks/prospects? Another roster guy?

Polishing up the lineup
Highly doubt the Pens want to go into the season with POJ and Smith as 2/3 of the LD.

I legitimately don't know how Kulich ended up in that trade lol. It was just supposed to be McGinn for a 4th rd pick, I must've fat-fingered that one.

I’d almost rather find a way to take Marino and Pettersson tbh, I’m not a fan of Kapanen.</div></div>
Most people are not fans of Kapanen... but Rutherford is. That's why I think something revolving around Kap will be going back to VAN if there's a trade to be made between VAN and PIT. I agree with you though - I don't think he moves the needle in most trades.
What does a deal around Petersson look like to you? Does it have to include Marino or does Petey + a prospect/pick bundle get it done for Garland or Miller?

Yeah DAL was not a good choice but also not really the point. Ship Petersson to whatever team will take him, regardless of the return.
