Pipe dream that could work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dunphy66</b></div><div>I'm a penguins fan. The Penguins would be happy to get rid of Bjugstad for pucks. He's offered no value at his contract, period.
Trading for Hall isn't to keep him for 6 weeks. It's to lock him up for the remainder of the Crosby/Malkin being great hockey players era. It's putting a block of wood in the closing window to try and squeak out a couple more cups. Letting go of Bjugstad is the easiest thing they can do. McCann is a better, cheaper, younger player. Letting Gally/Schultz walk while moving on from Hornqvist/Bjugstad allows you to sign Hall, Murray, McCann and tool out the rest of the roster.
The next season's roster would look like this;
Jake-Sid-Simon
Hall-Geno-Aston-Reese/Kahun
Aston-Reese/Kakun-McCann-Tanev
Lafferty-Blueger-Someone for 700k
Dumo - Letang
Marino - Pettersson
Johnson - Riikola/Trotman (unless they find a way to offload that horrific contract too)
That team is much better than the one we currently have. They have to get value out of the contracts and this is how they do that.</div></div>
sure you are, and I'm a caps fan :tearsofjoy

While I do not agree with your Rust=Hall assessment, I do agree that Poulin, Addison, Rust and a 1st is gross overpay for Hall.
Then again, this AGM also has Légaré added to dump Hornqvist for a 4th. So, gross overpay seems to be in season.

NJ fans at it again.
28 1st round picks for Hall.
I can't wait for the devastatingly depressing return on him. So they can feel like Ottawa fans and be knocked back down to reality.
And the penguins don't have to retain in moving Bjugstad. Let alone not get any kind of decent return for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PenGoater99</b></div><div>Please point out where the downgrade is. I'd love to hear your thoughts</div></div>
I'll point it out... the downgrade is here -> <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1519571">Downgrade</a>
You traded away Schultz and Galchenyuk for Benning.
Downgrade to defense is Schultz to Benning. Benning is a slightly physical, 6 D, Maybe more accurately a 6/7 D. Schultz is top-4.
Downgrade to forward is Galchenyuk to nil. No explanation necessary.
What do you need pointed out in either of those?
The 3rd, 5th and 6th barely covers the $2.75M retention, much less a solid player with retention.

Puljujärvi you pay a 1st for did nothing. But a player like rust returns a 2nd.
I don't know how you justify that valuation. I can't.

What GMJR should have done this offseason
how does trading Rust for a bust make the team better?
How long do you judge Guddy for his play on another team and ignore what he did for the penguins. I mean at that rate we should have traded Schultz out a long time ago.
None of this makes the team better. You have 2 LHD playing on the 3rd line, neither one of which is capable of backhanding a cross ice pass. Gardiner has back issues. JP has never earned the right to be on the 2nd line on this team, but you just hand it to him so he can flame out here like he did in edmonton making demands and not listening to anyone. They can keep that head ache.

Horrendous asset management. They are not trading their first round pick. Especially to get rid of JJ while retaining. His cap hit isn’t what’s bad about his contract. It’s his length of contract. Stop trading him cause it’s not gonna happen.

Brodin is going to cost waaaaaaay more that a 3-2 liner and a backup with decent potential
Gardiner is gonna go to a team where he will be their #1 Defensemen and he will also be asking for 6.5+

And what happened to the other 5 seasons besides those 2 standout seasons? Kadri is a goon and liability, he plays when he wants to play and makes some real bonehead mistakes. Nobody wants to pay a guy $5M for that. Sorry but Kadri doesn't get you Manson.
