Our media is fantastic for generating panic and fear.</div></div>
I don't know your exact cap situation but buyouts don't relieve you of cap lessen the hit but spread in out over years and LTIR doesn't help like people seem to think. unless the guy misses entire season like in Tampa.

Additionally, we would not have any money to sign free agents(unless we give up Dumba in the draft and we don't want that). This then leaves us with little room to do anything, so we would probably decline the trade at that price. Maybe try adding in parise or a player that is more equal to Malkin's contract.</div></div>
of course your fine Malkin is worth 10 times that garbage return. I know you didn't propose this but the only thing this fixes is the top overall pick for the pens next year. Doesn't even address there biggest need a goalie. Not one of those trades is even close to fair on the Pens Side.

Friedman: is reporting Vince Dunn available, Blues looking for a first round pick and TSN: is reporting Mete requests trade from Habs. throw this one out there to, Sportsnet, his agent and Friedman are reporting Bennett has asked for a trade from flames.

We agree on letang. I dont value you letang much at all. he is a great skater with some offensive ability that makes to many mistakes on defense. Dumoulin saves his butt a lot. letang is injury prone also. fowler is just better on defense and a little less than letang offensively.

The trade is bad for Vegas true, They are not trading away better players top to bottom though. Dumoulin >>>> McNabb and Marchessault to Rust is close but i take rust by a small margin and rust has proven chemistry with Malkin and is a better PK. That said Pacioretty is better than by a good margin. MCcann only advantage McCann has is age, speed and he can play center. Even with all that if you can believe that the difference between Patches and McCann is made up by the other two players in the trade its close but I don't think so. Still favors Pens. Why is Vegas adding a 1st and retaining on Patches that takes it way out of the realm of fair.

ya I like blueger a lot as a 4th line center that fills in as 3rd line center from time to time and can agree Pens need a more offensive 3c. That is not Kerfoot he is way over paid and worse at everything else and not that much better offensively. If blueger can improve a little on face offs he will be a perfect shutdown center.

I know he was 2C there but still I think he’s definitely significantly better than Bluegar offensive and still solid two way. Pens bottom 6 has a lot of great defensive players like Tanev, ZAR, etc. I think they could afford to move bluegar for some offence
Personally I’d rather just sign Haula and keep bluegar but this isn’t a bad option</div></div>
There is no way Kerfoot is that much better on offence than blueger. To make up for the fact that blueger is better everywhere else even if only by the slightest of margins, to make the cap difference even close to worth it for Pens. Yes Kerfoot was on a higher point pace in Colorado but the difference between 2nd line and 3rd line minutes and level of talent type (more offensive minded on 2nd line) and pp time would explain that. That deal is awful for the Pens in a regular year let alone flat cap years.

Both sh*t the bed last year..lol. And that just shows you it was Calgary as a team. Not all Janko’s fault for having a down year. Look at their stats. Both very similar except Janko is much more superior as a defensive Center. And at Face-Off’s. And he’s a PK monster. I’m excited to see what Janko does this year with the Pens and our 3rd Line Center!! As are JR and Sully!!</div></div>
So you know Jr and sully personally that is awesome. The problem is that in an interview like two weeks ago JR said the biggest hole left to fill was 3rd line center and cap room was the issue.. I can not find the interview now of coarse i believe it was with mark madden though. You can hope Jankowski fills the role in one hand you can sh@t in the other see which one is full quicker. Jankowski could very easily get sent to the minors. It is just as likely that erod is the 3rd line center next year.

I meant as a team. Obviously Malkin and Sid are better then Scheifle and Little. Wheeler, Connor, Ehlers, Morrissey, Trouba, and Byfuglien. Yes I know not all of them are still on team but he played with them.
That's a very talented group also. Ya Guentzel has great chemistry with Sid and Geno that in itself is a big plus in his favor. There is not a player in the nhl that doesn't benefit from better line mates. Laine best asset is his shot correct? Sid does not do well with that type of player. Geno is different he did well with Neal just finding a spot and shooting but he and kessel didn't mesh at all.
Don't get me wrong Liane is a great goal scoring winger. If you take everything in to account i would chose Guentzel.

Laine seems to be a bit of a malcontent when he doesn't get his own way. There is a huge difference between should have and did. He also is rumored to be asking for around 10 million a year contract wise. Laine is a great goal scorer and plays on a very good top line. He has very high value no doubt. I would not pay the price wanted to acquire him or pay what he is rumored to be asking for contract wise. Jets can keep him and i am sure they will be very happy to. I wouldn't trade Guetnzel for him.

There is no way Laine gets that. It could be argued that Guentzel is more valuable then Laine is. There both 40 goal scorers. Don't say its because Guentzel plays with Crosby and Malkin. Laine plays with elite talent also and gets more 1 unit pp time by far. Guentzel can play center also. He is a lot better on the wing. Guentzel is better defensively also. that doesn't take into account that Guentzel is signed for 4 more years and Laine is a RFA with a large raise due. I am not saying Laine is a bad player and doesnt have tremendous value i just think he is overvalued. The Pens do not really have what the jets need in a Laine trade anyway. I personally would not do the trade he offered up top from either side Pens or jets.

the max that can be retained is 50 %. The way it was done is
There are a few key limitations:
‘Salary’ refers to remaining base player salary and bonuses, including signing bonuses.
The percentage retained cannot be more than 50 percent of the salary and cap hit.
The same percentage must be retained for both salary and cap hit. This cannot be altered from year to year.
Teams are limited to three retained salary contracts each season.
Teams cannot retain more than an aggregate amount of 15 percent of the salary cap upper limit. In 2014-15 that number is $10.35 million.
A player’s contract can only be traded twice in a retained salary transaction.
There are a few specific scenarios highlighted by the CBA to keep in mind.
Home The Business of Hockey
How Do Retained Salary Trades Work?
The 2013 CBA gave teams the flexibility to retain a percentage of salary and cap hits in trades. Calgary Flames President Brian Burke championed this idea for years at GM meetings before it was finally adopted.
If a team trades away a player and retains salary in the transaction, that team cannot reacquire the player for one calendar year after the date of the transaction. One exception to this would be if the player’s contract expires or is otherwise terminated prior to the one calendar year date. In this case, the original team would be free to reacquire the player as the retained salary element no longer exists.
The CBA also prohibits a team from trading away a player and then reacquiring that player in a retained salary transaction within one year of the original trade.
If a contract involved in a retained salary transaction is bought out or terminated, all teams involved will be responsible for their respective percentage of obligations.
If a player acquired in a retained salary transaction is sent to the minors, the original team (the one that retained salary) must still include their portion of the contract on their salary cap for the remainder of the contract, regardless of whether the player is ever recalled or not. This prevents a team from cutting a player’s contract in half and then having the new team make the cap hit disappear by sending him to the minors.
Finally, a second retained salary transaction does not modify in any way the original terms and obligations of an initial retained salary transaction.
Real Example: Devan Dubnyk’s cross-continent travels in 2014 demonstrated a number of these provisions:
Jan 15, 2014: Dubnyk was traded from Edmonton to Nashville.
Edmonton retained 50% of his salary, or $1.75M of the $3.5M total.
March 5, 2014: Dubnyk was traded from Nashville to Montreal.
Nashville retained 25% of his salary (which applies to the original total). Therefore, the Predators retained $0.875M.
March 5, 2014: Dubnyk was immediately demoted to Montreal’s AHL affiliate in Hamilton.
After the demotion, he didn’t count against Montreal’s cap but he did still count against Edmonton’s ($1.75M) and Nashville’s ($0.875M).
