The Actual Top 20 Centers In The NHL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logan_Ollivier</b></div><div>Draisaitl is too high, he's not as good as Barkov or Point. Lindholm isn't a top 20 centre either. He's a guy who gets a lot of points off better linemates.</div></div>
What a ridiculous take. Point was a minus player on a great team two years in a row. He put up 28 goals while Draisaitl put up 50 and well over 100 points. They’re both elite but the gap between them is immense. I can kind of see Barkov ahead of Draisaitl but still not really. 30 or 40 goals and 80 or 90 points is great but is not one bit close to 55 goals and 110 points.

The Actual Top 20 Centers In The NHL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tea</b></div><div>Not saying the playoffs aren't important, but Matthews career pro rated goal average is 52, he already has more regular season goals, and MacKinnon has no major awards outside of a Calder. If we're comparing careers, Matthews easily wins, and if we're comparing last season.. well, Matthews won the Lindsay and was actually really good in the Tampa series (4G5A in 7 games). By almost any conceivable metric, Matthews is better than MacKinnon. An argument could even be made that Matthews is the best center in the league right now, since he won the Lindsay last season, but after that playoff run from McDavid, I don't think anyone can rationally make that argument.
Right now in the league, I think there are 5 players who are just in their own tier, McDavid, Makar, Draisaitl, Shesterkin, and Matthews (not in that particular order). Guys like Hedman and MacKinnon are obviously elite, generational, future hall of famers, however you wanna describe them, but those 5 are just different.</div></div>
I’d swap vas for shesterkin then I’d agree

opening night lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tea</b></div><div>Ok since this is clearly super important to you and you apparently can't live without a proper apology, here you go:
What happened was I took Givani Smith into the minors and moved Berggren in, activating Fabbri off the IR, then, I put Fabbri back on the IR when I remembered he'd be injured for the start of the season, and I swapped Suter (who I'd scratched) with Berggren, and didn't think to switch Berggren with Givani Smith. A similar thing happened with Johansson, I was gonna put him in the lineup, but then I changed my mind and just put him as a scratch, not thinking about where he would play. I apologize dearly for the toll this egregious mistake has taken on you and the damage it has caused your mental state, I should clearly have had my lineup peer reviewed to make sure a mistake like this would never happen. I am so sorry and I will be paying reparations in the form of McDonalds coupons.
Now go bother someone else</div></div>
😂😂😂 you’re forgiven

just a wild idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tea</b></div><div>How does adding Ghost in place of Middleton make the team worse? How does adding Gagner to the bottom 6 make the team worse?
I mean I agree that the team shouldn't be in win-now mode, but in that conceivable way does this make the team worse, how is this even an overpayment?
"Awful in every way" is such an insulting and stupid way to describe two pretty reasonable moves, one of which is a one year signing that literally just adds temporary depth.</div></div>
I was talkimg about the trade and not the Gagner signing. It's a dine signing, I actually like it. It's not an upgrade over Gaudreau at all but it's fine by itself
So right off the rip it's this is a downgrade in the bottom, then Middleton vs Gost is mainly a matter of preference, Gost is significantly better offensively, Middleton is significantly better defensively and the bigger, grittier guy
And if Minnesota wants a small offensive Dman paired up Spurgeon again, why not move Goligoski back up the lineup? He was good there too
And then you remeber that Middleton is younger, still relatively new to the NHL, cheaper and has some term left on his deal. He was also just resigned
There is nothing about trading Middleton for Gostisbehere that truly makes sense. If you want a more offensive guy with Spurgeon you move Goose up, other than that you're acquiring a defensive liability on an inflated expiring contract, limiting your cap space if you actually do want to compete for an underpaid bottom 6C who's proven he can play further up the line up and is also a righty (Minnesota severely lacks those) and big, defensive dman and a 2nd rounder
If that's what it takes to acquire a player Minnesota has no need for, then it's a hard pass

Is Newhook ready
At this current moment, unknown, at the pro level he has show he has the skill, iq, and defensive awareness to be a future 2c.
By the end or mid point of the season it’s not unrealistic to have him establish and settle himself into that job
Until then you are Banking on his potential, and what he can do, I would be cautiously optimistic he will be a 2c

Alternative NYR direction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AG_sweden</b></div><div>I don't think Chytil will get you much of a return. It is hard to grow players on the third line. This is if I was GM. So if you disagree be happy I am not GM for real then.
Secondly it creates roster spots and cap space. So not that unnecessary</div></div>
players can absolutely grow on the 3rd line...unless they are given 4th line minutes. Chytl's pts/60 the past few years has been with elite company. The problem is Gallant hasn't trusted him to give him the minutes to really provide heavy production. To be fair- his dismal FO % doesn't help his cause....and the coach might give him more opportunity if he knew the team wouldn't go right to puck retrieval once the puck is dropped. That's on Chytl to work on- and it is a very acquirable skill if the hard work is put in. But with time on ice- with quality offensive players- there's no reason to believe Chytl can't hit another gear.

22-23 standings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tea</b></div><div>Chiarot isn't great, but he does improve the defense. Edvinsson coming in should also make it better. Copp slots in as their 2c, which is something they desperately needed, and Perron, Kubalik, etc gives them a lot of depth to work with. Also Husso as their starter is not something to frown at. Overall, their offseason went fine, the Chiarot deal might age badly, but the other contracts were great. Plus, another year of experience for Raymond and Seider, and the apparent breakout of Larkin means they could easily be an underrated playoff team. Remember, they were a +0.500 team for the first few months last year before getting dragged down by injuries. Who knows what they can do if they're healthy.</div></div>
I don’t see it with them. I feel like they are at best an mid 80
Point team, I feel like Ottawa Detroit and Columbus made all these moves to just be a 500 team.

Thank you for not overrating Columbus, though I would say that NYI will be better then 7th and could quite possibly be battling for top in the division with the addition for kadri and a bounce back season from Barzal, Lee, and a majority of their forwards. Plus a better offensive coach will help with that.

In my opinion
Florida should be lower, they lost a defencemen and have to say there defence doesn’t look that great anymore. Sure they have a few soild guys and one very good d man aka ekblad.
New Jersey above caps I don’t think so. Caps above devils. I also think jackets will have a better season so I’d put them above devils as well.
I think Vegas should be a above Seattle.
I think Detroit should be above Ottawa.

Eastern Conference 2022-23 Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tea</b></div><div>You're making a lot of assumptions about your team, and neglecting to mention any improvements on the Rangers, it's a pretty bad argument made for a point that I actually agree with
Yes, the Canes did add Burns, but they also lost DeAngelo, Cole, and Smith, which really hurts your defensive depth. You definitely can't say you improved defensively. Offensively, you did at Pacioretty, but you're losing Niederreiter, Trocheck, Domi, Lorentz, and Stepan. Your forward core isn't bad, per se, but having Kotkaniemi as your 2C is a significant risk.
Unless Laffy and Kakko somehow both regress from their playoff form, the Rangers have a better top 6, an arguably better defensive core, and a better starting goalie. I still think the Canes are a better team overall, but you shouldn't brush the Rangers of like they're a joke.</div></div>

Not sure if Ohgren will be ready quite yet, but. I could see Beckman in that spot. Also a good chance that 1 or 2 of the three of Addison, Faber and Lambos could be NHL ready at this point.
I expect Duhaime to stick around and would think the only way the GREEF line is broken up is if Greenway is traded.
Thanks for posting, like looking forward and seeing what the team might look like in the future.

I looked at it again, and not only are you right, but there's a second condition that also has to be met: the player has to have been on the team as of the prior trade deadline. Which, of course, doesn't apply to Myers.
Thanks for the education!
P.S. That's why <a href="/users/Richard88" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Richard88</a>'s original formulation involved Erik Johnson, who meets both requirements.

This is most likely the team to start next year unless Reaves gets moved. Regarding Othmann, I agree. Where else can he go but where you have him? He can't stay in the OHL, he is ineligible to play in the AHL, and he is a goal scorer who would be wasted on the 4th line. Where you have him is perfect. Looks like you also have the NYR moving on from Hunt and Gauthier. They need to move at least one of them and probably keep the other. Reaves isn't going to play all 82 games. LGR!!!

Seriously people need to stop thinking we're going in on patrick kane just because of a larry brooks article.
We're not moving kakko for kane. That would be a giant 2 step back trade. Kane is a UFA, and while we came very close this season, that doesn't mean we're going to immediately abandon our depth (which is one of the reasons we lasted as long as we did), to try and take a step further.
